Hank Williams - May You Never Be Alone Lyrics

Like a bird that's lost its mate in flight
I'm alone and oh, so blue tonight
Like a piece of driftwood on the sea
May you never be alone like me.

I believed the lies you told to me
When you whispered, "Dear, I worship thee!"
Now here am I alone and blue
All because I loved no one but you.

I gave up my friends, I left my home
When you promised to be mine alone
Now you're gone, our love could never be
May you never be alone like me.

In the bible, God's own words do say
For ev'ry wrong some day you'll pay
I pray the Lord to set me free
May you never be alone like me.

    Very beautiful song and voice

  52. M.... J....

Of all Hank's songs, this one is my all time favorite. I hope she has found whatever it was that she was searching for. But with her lies, she will never find it. I don't know what caused her to change so much. Maybe it was because she knows that I am battling stage 2 lung cancer. Maybe she couldn't stand to see me dying. Whatever the reason. maybe she is happy with her decision

  53. M.... J....

hank Williams was a once in a lifetime singer, songwriter. A very lonely man. His music, his voice will always be remembered. Of all the singers, and song writers out there. he will always be my favorite. Here's to you Hank

The last verse of this song is so sad. He'd rather burn in hell for eternity than live with the pain of being without her.

RIP Hank, No doubt your face is on The Mt. Rushmore of song.

I'll never get tired of Hank.....so in love with his music...I'm 34 💁🏼 not just music for our parents 😜

    J.... M....

I'm 24, just discovered how great Hank is yesterday. He's way too easy to relate too.

    J.... M....

just checked out "Hank State of Mind". Bad ass! I added it to my playlist if you can't find it. Great tribute to the man

    J.... M....

Well, depending on one's age it could be your great to great great grandparents music as I am 53, born in 64 but Hank was dead for 9 1/2 years before my birth and my mother was born in 44 so she was only 8 turning 9 when he died. I have been a fan of Hank Sr since I was 4 living on a farm here in Canada.

  69. B.... L....

    songs our parents liked

  70. M.... ....

that's baum playing the mandolin and the band went to ray price before hank died

  71. M.... ....

that's baum playing the mandolin and the band went to ray price before hank died

    M.... ....

MagicJ28 Yes Clyde Baum. A bit of irony,Hank actually hated the mandolin he said it didnt belong on a country record! But I disagree, that mandolin sounded perfect on that record!

  72. M.... ....

that's hank playing the mandolin and that went to ray price before hank died

  73. w.... ....

can hear your boy in that voice.

  74. R.... B....

who's playing that mandolin so beautifully @ 0:36-1:02 ? (mandolin is rare on Hank's songs). And what became of the band after Hank passed? Anyone know?

    R.... B....

+Robert Beekman The guy on the mandolin is Clyde Baum. You will hear him on Lost Highway. The Drifting Cowboys went with Ray Price, later with Jett Williams.

    R.... B....

Thanks, Bob Harris. I appreciate your sharing your knowledge here with me. It's a beautiful solo, isn't it?

    R.... B....

Hank had a great band albeit members would come & go, they always sounded like they were the same personnel with Hank. Thanks, guys. This mandolin solo is my new "warm-up" riff. (but just at 1/2 the speed with the tremolo double stops and all)

    R.... B....

+Robert Beekman Just a note; the mandolin was used on the songs "Lost On The River" and "I heard Mother praying for me", with Audrey, Dec'48. The Drifting Cowboys were managed by Ray Price with little success so he formed the Cherokee Cowboys in'53.

    R.... B....

That's Clyde Baum on the mandolin same for Lost Highway Lost On The River Jesus Remembered Me and Dear Brother. Hank went on and formed the usual incarnation of The Drifting Cowboys in 1950(check out Long Gone Lonesome Blues) as for this formation, they were studio musicians that went on to play for other acts!

  75. B.... H....

Another one he wrote; Recorded Mar '49.

No one could write and sing the way Hank did with out feeling it and living it.His life was one big heart ache.He really loved Audrey and she played him for a fool and a country bumbkin.R.I.P ,you'll always be the greatest!!

    l.... n....

as a fan and if you appreciate this man and his genius then don't put words in his mouth, so to speak. none of us know what goes on between two people in love, my wife left me after almost 40yrs together and i pity the person that ever said anything bad about her, we can't know what makes someone choose to live another life, it could be anything. hank seemed to have wrote with his heart and from what his music says to us is don't judge people, and forgive everything. l still love my wife, shes been gone a little over two years and i still have no idea why she left, i can only appreciate the most of a lifetime we had together and all the memories i will carry to my grave.

    l.... n....

jimmie Roan -Your recent comment was
quite puzzling. It seems you were implying that I was in some
way criticizeing the man for his way of life. That is something I would never do. As far as your wife leaving you, you are correct as to why people do things, but sometime people change, sooner or later. I know I'm not the same as I once was, aftef 87 years of life on this earth I still may be the same in some ways, but we change thruout life, and I think life itself is what changes us. Your wife left you, somewhere out there she still exists. If you wanted to, somehow, someway, you could see her again. My wife left me after 27 years of marriage, I too, think of her daily, but there is no way for me to see her again. GOD took her in 2013. Where she is she can't come to me, but I know how to get to her........!

    l.... n....

Bob Harris you seem like a great man. I'm a young lady who respects an older man who loves Hank enough to know what was found on him when he died. RIP Hank and RIP Mrs. Harris <3

    l.... n....

After 40 years and you have NO idea why she left you???. You did not know her after 40 years????. OK now I know why she left you!!!!!!!

    l.... n....

He was a severe alcoholic who went on binges that lasted days. I cannot imagine how difficult it must be to live with someone like this. Many have said he was okay with beer, but when he touched the hard stuff, he wasn’t someone anyone wanted to be around. We don’t know the things he said or did in this state. From his perspective, he might not have remembered his words or actions and didn’t understand his wife’s reaction to him afterwards. While we love him and feel so much when we hear his voice and lyrics, we don’t know both sides. We know he started drinking/binging young. Some say age 11, some say even earlier. He may have found relief from back pain with drinking and began self medicating and that cascaded into a huge problem. Blaming a spouse is pretty common with addicts. Part of the disease is not taking ownership or responsibility for actions and choices. Audrey was no prize, but she’s not 100% to blame for a failed marriage. That takes two people.
