I love this version of this song. I like The Bee Gees version a little bit more, but Hank does a great rendition of it. I don't know why he didn't like recording it, it's great!

+Thomas Boner ..Hank always could remake a song like no one else.  I guess that came from being forced to sing Sr's songs all those years.  Hank's versions of "Air That I Breathe", "Tuesday's Gone", "Wild and Blue" and countless others were remade without butchering the originals and could stand on their own.

Nobody can touch Hank on this song, this is the definitive version of this song. To the Bee-Gees, Michael Bolton, anybody else who ever sang this song.... sorry but youre not even in the same league as Hank

How come so many country singers doing Bee Gees songs like Dolly Parton Kenny Rodgers doing Island In The Stream, Conway Twitty doing Rest Your Love On Me.  But I don't see Bee Gees doing songs by country artists.

In a magazine interview Barry said the song was written about his feelings for their manager, Robert Stigwood, due to the tremendous admiration Barry had for him. He said it was not homosexual affection that he was writing about.
Stigwood had requested they write soulful ballad for Otis Redding to record, and this was it. But the Bee Gees recorded it before Redding had the chance.
Shortly thereafter, Redding died having never recording it.

Strange as it seems, I just bought the 45 rpm single elektra/asylum recording of this song off of Ebay. The B side is "We Can Work It Out" and it was produced by Ray Ruff.. It came yesterday and I think it sounds great myself.

Written in a outdoor stairwell by Barry, Maurice and Robin ( the BeeGee's) during a break from recording in London. They actually had Otis Redding in mind to sing it. Sadly, he died before that could happen.

You're exactly right LTIH. He hated doing it and said so. He quit in the middle of the album ( in Hollywood), went back to Alabama ( Muscle Shoals) to finish up.

His producers wanted him to do it. You do what your producers tell you to do most of the time.

You have to appreciate Hank's other bluesy material to like his version, which I do. This is one of those songs that's been covered a lot.
Hank Jr,, Michael Bolton and Clay Aikan on American Idol season 2, Each sing it like they sing there other material. It comes down to it being a great written song. Which goes back to giving credit to the Bee Gees.
Most Bee Gees songs are done in a fashion where you have to like their style to like this song, which I do as well.

No disrespect to the Bee Gees..they were great, but Hank knocks this out of the park and the Bee Gee's version pales in comparison.
