I would have loved to lived back in Sr days and I could have been his friend then there would never be anything else in this world I would have loved 2 do more than meet n befriend Hank Sr . I feel from what I have researched about him amd read n watched that we r just alike n I deal with a lot bout God like him. I to fight a lot of reminds everyday n I love n homer God but I did something very bad years ago toward God n the Holy Ghost. I feel as tho we been have been thru in life even tho I am well older than 29 me been 48. I feel as tho Hank Sr felt like he had messed up somewhere in life whether backsliding or blaspheme or whatever it is n we never new that does n will forgive us for what we have done in our younger years like blaspheme which I believe I didn't . i love this song

This song is a true story. That note in his guitar case he mentions in the song is in the Montgomery, Alabama museum. The Chorus part of the song where he begins with " hand me down" is the exact words of the letter his father left him. It was more like a poem than a letter which I guess is why it converted to music so well. But I was real surprised to see the letter on display in the museum and it read like the song word for word. I thought it was just something JR made up.....but no its true down to the exact words.

Hank Williams jr should be in the country music hall of fame right next to hank Williams sr it's a shame he not
