Hank Williams - (I Heard That) Lonesome Whistle Lyrics
I was ridin' number nine
Headin' south from Caroline
I heard that lonesome whistle blow
Got in trouble had to roam
Left my gal and left my home
Just a kid actin' smart
I went and broke my darlin's heart
I guess I was too young to know
They took me off the Georgia Main
Locked me to a ball and chain
I heard that lonesome whistle blow
All alone I bear the shame
I'm a number not a name
All I do is sit and cry
When the ev'nin' train goes by
I heard that lonesome whistle blow
I'll be locked here in this cell
Til my body's just a shell
And my hair turns whiter than snow
I'll never see that gal of mine
Lord, I'm in Georgia doin' time
I heard that lonesome whistle blow

Never be any one to even carry his boots. The best ever. Love old Hank. I was only a 6vyr old when he died but I grew up on his music. What a loss .
The Great die young. Hank Williams Sr, Ritchie Valence, The Big Bopper, Buddy Holly, Janis Joplin. All under 30 I think.
Truly hope to see this music live on into eternity people need to be reminded of the pain we've all been in at some point and what can grow from that pain
Be nice if I had a chance to read the writing. It changes too fast
That high lonesome sound of his voice eases the pain in my hart .
One of Hank's best

who else could moan and yodel like Hank?
All time favorite love this song.thank you (king) hank williams
Bob Dylan owes all his success to Hank Williams...his early sound is directly inspired, if not stolen from what Hank was doing some 20 years earlier.
“When I hear Hank sing,” Dylan writes, “all movement ceases. The slightest whisper seems sacrilege. In time, I became aware that in Hank’s recorded songs were the archetype rules of poetic songwriting. The architectural forms are like marble pillars, and they had to be there.”
no doubt, yet in fairness to dylan he extended that influence into his own signature.
She'll body
When I was a kid in Jasper Florida Great Grandma and Grandpa's house there were railroad tracks very close and I would stay up at night thinking I was the only one listening to the train whistles
you can hear the pain, the strength, and the emotion in his voice, which is more than can be said for most modern artists.
Wish times were like they used to be

Er hört es immernoch
I’ll never see that gal of mine. Lord I’m in Georgia doing time
Simply the best
Pure country Great
On a holiday to Nashville recently, a train passed by a couple of time a night within earshot of the apartment we were staying in. The whistle when it went through sounded as lonesome as Hank is singing about. I couldn't help noticing how appropriate this song is...
I heard that whistle. It blows low and oh it blows so low. I hear that lonesome whistle blow. SO GOOD.
The great Hank William's he battled Hodgins Disease for years

A very lonesome man in life but one of the greatest artists of all time. I hope he has finally found peace in death. Like his son said, just listen to the music and you'll know Hank Williams! Often immitaded but NEVER duplicated.
Hank has entertained us for many decades , he was such a talented Artist !
I wish the information about hank William would stay on longer so i could read it before it ends. Thanks
My prayer is his music lives forever
Thats that hard.
Even though the Williams don't like us Mexicans I don't care. Best music ever. Love it
That will make you tap your toes... can't no body else do it like ole Hank
The real king of country
Ole Hank, Sr was a superstar of his time however he fell into that "money, love, fame & fortune", age old trap & died 50 yrs too soon & succumbed to his own demons @ age 29.
Believe it or not, this happens to the best of all humans, i.e. fame & fortune, usually carries with it certain charteristics, that if not controlled & dealt with properly, can destroy an individual.
Greatest singer and song writer of all time.
My favorite
Cash is great but hank does this song better
I like the song but without the "wa wa wa" but maybe that's just me.
Have you ever heard the whistle of an old steam engine blowing in the distance at night?

As composer & singer Hank is still streets ahead of the rest
Who kept up with the reading? Lol not my ass

"Rural pop" is my derogatory term for it. And I agree completely. No soul!
