Hall, Tom T. - The Harmonica Man Lyrics
An old man stood and stared into the music store window
And he saw a sorta harmonica lyin' there in the sun
He thought of the music the harp could be playing
He closed his old eyes and he started to hum
He hummed an old song bout an unfaithful lover
He hummed the bright song about beer drinking buddies
One about Jesus and uncloudy day
Well he bought the harmonica and he took it on home
With his youth all behind him and livin' alone
He soon learned to play it as pure and as cool as any great master musician could do
He played an old song bout an unfaithful lover
He played the sweet tune about children at play
He played the bright song about beer drinking buddies
And one about Jesus and uncloudy day
Well they found him one morning lying there on the sofa
They lowered him down and they put the dirt on him ashes to ashes to Jesus a prayer
Well the old man's gone and of course his music went with him
And there's a sadness about him you know it seems strange to say
For all of his music and as much as he loved it nobody else even knew he could play

Another Kentucky boy.
Been listening to Tom for over 40 yrs. now. Never get tired of his story's.
Me too ;-)

That lovely fade out at the end.
Tom T Hall is so amazing and YouTube is such a gift to lovers of his music.
Just about when you think you’ve heard all of his songs, you stumble across one like this you didn’t know and darn if it isn’t one of the best songs you’ve ever heard.
How many more like it are still out there just waiting to be discovered? Thanks T for your wonderful music. The gift that keeps on giving!

This guy brings tears into my heart what a great American singer xxx God bless Tom T hall xx john
One of the best singer song writer's ever in true country music. If we only had this kind of talent in what is called country music today. How I truly miss real true country stars
I have grown up knowing Tom T Hall a bit unavailable in Kenya those years but today it's a lot easier....that was 80s
Hi Philip. I spent time in Kenya and heard Charley Pride on the radio one day which was a real thrill. I don't think country music is big in Kenya. Best wishes from Australia!
Nice one from the story teller.
I love Taylor Swift you cannot take anything away from her but my opinion I think and I need to talk about come to u Hall more than the dirty divorce what up sorry Taylor yours truly, Tombo

Tom T Hall is une of the best storytellers.
Glad I was fumbling around and found this tune. Never heard this one before. :)
My favorite was (Old dogs children and watermelon wine) Alot of truth there.
Thanks for the memories..
many of us may be like this old man, after he died they did not find the harmonica, "nobody even knew he could play."
I've always like Tom T Hall. This is good example of his unique, heart felt songwriting and mellow vocal style. I met him once backstage before a show. Back stage was outside the back door of a large tobacco warehouse...lol. He was down to earth and friendly. Thanks for sharing friend. I'm subscribing. ~ BCK
one of the best storyteller
Another great song by Tom T. Hall. Does anyone know how he is doing today? Thanks
One of Tom's best, and there been so many. Thanks so much for sharing.
One of the things I love best about Tom T's songs is the wonderful stories, and, just as much, the stories and morals behind those stories. So if there's anyone reading this who ever wanted to do open mics & karaoke, but thought you weren't good enough, maybe this will help you make up your mind to go for it. You just might be a lot better than you think. God bless you, Tom T, for all the wonbderful music!!
Tom T, loved all over the world, a gifted man.
His songs are so great and he is the best story teller of all. For us old guys who can remember when it cost a quarter to see a double feature movie and ten cents for popcrn, I especially like "Pinto the Wonder Horse is Dead".
And a Hershey bar was 5 cents.
Has Tom T ever not written and sung a great song.
Yes Tom T . Hall will be one of my favorites till someone sings The Ballad of Forty Dollars over me
Thanks negramD! It was driving me nuts.
@guydeguy
You're right, it's Terry McMillan ;-)
So who is the harpist? Of course Charlie McCoy would be the first choice, but it sounds a lot like Terry McMillan to me.
dug out the old album from 1983/4 and can confirm its Terry Mcmillan
My hero...great job.....
There is no better singer than Tom T. Hall, thanks for posting this - I never heard it before..
All he has done is good!
He is a great storyteller!
Praise The LORD! This song is a Blessing!
