Hall & Oates - I Want To Know You For A Long Time Lyrics

Laughing's short but loving lasts
I can't mix the future with the past
Can I stay close to you
I wanna stay close to you
You've got yours and I've got mine
And what we have in so hard to define
Just take a look at your life line
You've got a lot to shine
Let's say baby,
I wanna know you for a long long time
Ooh baby
I wanna know you for a long long time

Oh darling, lady friend
We'll see each other when it's time to show
Just for a minute or for a year
But then again, don't you and I know

A time between our time together
It doesn't exist, it grows old forever
Just take a look at your life line
Oh baby, you've got a lot to shine
I know it baby,
I wanna know you for a long long time
Oh and baby,

I wanna know you for a long long time
I wanna know baby, I wanna know baby
Oh you've got a lot to live girl
So I wanna know you for a long long time
I wanna know, I wanna know,
I wanna know baby
So much to live for girl,
So much to live for girl
So I wanna know you baby
Wanna know you for a long long time.
I wanna know, wanna know ...

[Etc. and fade]

we go on where it takes us we go ...... no choice but to go where we are to go ...... life is that way .... no one has control over that .. even if they want to control it they can not ........

    Killer Mark Doyle guitar break

  5. Nassera DuCre

Yea, this should have been a hit. Also, I think it was before its time too. It sounds like a 80's/ 90's sound. I also hear those gospel influence s in this tune. This feel good music is making my summer. This music is from my youth, and brings back great memories of innocence, and a less complicated time.

    Graham Farquharson

You must be tone deaf in that case. Defiantly a 70s vibe

the dream is always the fantasy...........that will never be reality....

Great song. I heard it for the first time on "Darryls House" tv program. I like the way it sound on that show. Either way, I also believe that this song should have been a hit. Nice melody. Thanks for posting.

This song originally appeared as one of 3 previously unreleased tracks on an Atlantic Records compilation in 1977 called "No Goodbyes". That album was put out to cash in on Hall & Oates new found success on their new label (RCA)

  14. Mike Swanson

Actually I think the album came out origianlly in 72.

    Graham Farquharson

"Whole Oats" came out in 1972. This was one of three unreleased songs that they did in1975 as a way of saying thanks because they were leaving Atlantic records. Their new label was R.C.A.

One of the best songs H&O ever did AND one of the best Philly Soul grooves in my opinion. A true (lost) gem. From 1:45 on, it's absolute soulful bliss. It just takes me there...and when it's all over, I gotta catch my breath 'cuz it takes that much out of me. =P
