Haley Reinhart - White Rabbit Lyrics

One pill makes you larger
One pill makes you small
And the ones that mother give to you
Don't do anything at all
Go ask Alice
When she's ten feet tall

And if you go chasing rabbits
And you know you're going to fall
Tell 'em a hookah smoking caterpillar
Has given you the call...
Call Alice
When she was just small

When the men on the chessboard
Get up and tell you where to go
And you've just had some kind of mushroom
And your mind is moving low
Go ask Alice
I think she'll know

When logic and proportion
Have fallen sloppy dead
And the White Knight is talking backwards
And the Red Queen's off with her head
Remember what the Doormouse said
Feed your head
Feed your head

Okay, Haley has proven that she can sing better than all of the original artists on this cover album, but now that she is signed to a record label, it's time to see Haley come out with a really solid album featuring her own original songs.

However, she needs to be careful because it needs to be a really solid album. So it doesn't really matter how long she takes as long as she makes sure that it is a very good album. Other artists work on their albums for one and even two years, if that is what it takes for Haley to come up with a really solid album, then do whatever it takes, but make sure it is very good.

Hopefully, Concord can set her up to collaborate with some very good songwriters and artists. In fact, I would love for Haley to collaborate with James Bay, for example, because I believe the kind of soulful rock songs he sings would also work for Haley's kind of voice and singing style too.

In any event, I want Haley's next album to be really solid so she can take the next big step up in her career. She's close now, but she is still not quite there. Indeed, I'd like to see Haley become a major star so she can be featured as a performer on numerous television shows and holiday specials and also perform on award shows like the Grammys and the AMAs. But most of all, I want to watch Haley do Carpool Karaoke.

    T.... B....

These are really great covers but be for real. None of them are better then the originals. That's not a knock against Haley, it's just she picked epic classic songs that were perfect to begin with. Instead of trying to reproduce the originals she would have been better off making jazz versions that were completely different with just the same lyrics.

    T.... B....

    @Dave Davidson
There's a fine line to tread when doing covers. She loves those originals, and you're right that these are classics. A lot of younger folk won't know them very well at all, and should enjoy them as Haley has brought them back much as they were. Myself, I would have liked her do to a wee bit more improvisation and playing around with the songs, still trying to keep the same overall feel to them, giving more of an individual twist, but not an out-and-out jazz revamp. However, it's still a superb album that lets Haley's voice shine through so well, better than on her first two albums.

  47. J.... ....

    This is awesome.

  48. A.... A....

    Significantly better than the original.

  49. J.... S....

    Love Love Love this album.

    S.... E....

@Veronika Papp No, it's very good but it's not that good.

    S.... E....

Michael, I agree with you totally! Better than the original!

Randy was an ignorant and rude arsehole. who seemed to know nothing about music, well not singing anyway. Nor manners!

  57. D.... B....

    AMAZIIIIIING

  58. n.... ....

that's a pretty good squadfam you got yourself some good sounds. For real though it was well executed.

  59. b.... ....

Dear IRS: Have Haley sing the regulations and increase revenues 100%...I probably underestimated the increase.

  60. g.... ....

I've got the album, it's absolutely wonderful, all of it. Best buy I've made in years, nothing on it I don't like. Haley was born 55 years too late but the advantage to that is that she's got two decades worth (60's and 70's) of songs she can reinvent beautifully.

People who criticze covers don't understand that almost all artists are doing someone else's work. Linda Ronstadt, whose work Haley would do wonders with, didn't write anything, but was amazing. So is Haley. She makes "old" music I've not heard in decades, some I didn't even like at the time, completely new again and even better, far better, than the first time around.

This entire album is amazing, she's going to have a beautiful career doing this kind of music, she was born for this and I'm just grateful I'm here to hear it. I've been waiting for this album since "House" on Idol.  Finally, it's here. And worth the wait.

    g.... ....

you, sir, are perfectly insightful and appreciate the right things in life. keep doing what you're doing

GSpotter63 did you say you have extra ticket? take me with you!

  62. r.... ....

Haley is the only contemporary singer I know of, who can capture the spirit of the 60's music, but still put her stamp on it.

    r.... ....

    ++rinardman
Her parents brought her up well! I don't know enough about all the singers on the go, but Haley certainly captures that spirit, and she always makes the songs her own.

    r.... ....

I love Haley, but I think Pink did it better https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XlxUnzuMAD0

    r.... ....

Not just the '60s. Have you seen her cover of Seven Nation Army on Postmodern Jukebox? Check it out if you haven't.

  63. J.... S....

    Thanks!!!

  64. T.... A....

    Just love your voice...goosebumps...

  65. B.... a....

Wish it was longer! Been following Ms. Reinhart since God Bless the Child on American Idol!

  66. T.... ....

I am with Samuel, this is just an awesome golden oldie and she sings it with perfection. She sang this in her driveway years ago.

  67. D.... N....

I can’t wrap my head around how every single cover you sing is better than the original. Even some of the best songs of all time like this.

    D.... N....

Now I doubt your sanity. It is the actual reason why people love music from the 60s that the music is authentic. It's not supposed to be perfect.

    D.... N....

    ++Fergus MacLeod
I think I know what you mean - but don't agree with you. I don't think Haley's voice is actually smoother at all. it's grittier if anything. However, she keeps the melody line more smooth whereas Grace seems to chop it up a bitty. I was going to say she's jerky, but that's not really the right way to describe it either.

As it's Alice in Wonderland fantasy, I don't think one voice or treatment is more appropriate than the other. My own preference is for Haley. She seems to have more "colours" or tonal variations in her voice. I never heard Jefferson Airplane until I decided I ought to listen to the original after hearing Haley's cover, and I can understand people who always liked it very much finding differences that they don't enjoy so much. But it's coming across Haley and her covers that has got me listening to originals and realising there was an awful lot of music going on that I was completely unaware of. Generally speaking I usually prefer her versions. Back beats tend to be less obtrusive, and she has thon wee jazzy, bluesy touches, the rasp, and the exuberant shouting high belt she can use so well. Basically, she's a better singer than most of the original singers, and it's the men particularly that she can sing the socks off. But if you prefer Grace, hey, that's fine. Although I prefer Haley, I can recognise that Grace is good. It's nice to chat to somebody who isna blinkered against others because of his won personal preferences.

If you want to know where I was all those years, I was away up in the Scottish Highlands listening mainly to Scottish Folk music and Piping. Now I have a computer, and am improving my musical knowledge a wee bitty, and catching up on a little of what all I missed over the years.

With a name like yours, you could be in the Scottish Highlands as well. and if you're not, your forebears must have been!

    D.... N....

No, she wasn't perfect, but the timbre of her voice matches the song better. I've heard Grace Slick do this live, and it's the blend of her voice and the backing of the rest of Airplane that gives the song its effect. I notice that the accompaniment, especially the lead guitar, is just slightly different from Airplane's original, which is to be expected. Unfortunately, for me all that does is make the entire performance sound just a little "off." Don't misunderstand me, I think Haley is one hell of a fine singer, one of my favorites in fact, and some of her covers, "Creep" comes immediately to mind, are indeed better than the originals; just not this one.

    D.... N....

Fergus MacLeod This. Slick was cutting her first songs with a psychedelic rock band in drug-fueled San Francisco in the 60s. I seriously doubt that she or her band or her producers held her vocal performance to the same standard as Reinhart and her team. Reinhart’s signature is her incredible voice. She’s amazing, but it’s apples and oranges and a silly comparison.

    D.... N....

OMG, YESSS!!! Every song she sings is better than the original! I was all about the classics until this gal stepped up.
