Haley Reinhart - Broken Record Lyrics

Listen
Do I have to spell it out for you
What part of this don't you understand
It's not the things you say or do
But the way you do
That struck a nerve
It hit a chord baby
Way way deep in the depths of my soul
Hate to break it to you Mister
Do I have to tell you one more time

Didn't your mama tell you not to go
And make things uncomfortable
Don't you know
You're pullin' on my heartstrings baby
It's tearing me apart
And oh you make it impossible
Now I know
This feels like a broken record on a minor chord
Broken record on a minor chord

Wooh you better listen good
Broken record on a minor chord

Mmm, hope you got it all figured out
So let when the sun goes down
You can sleep at night
Without a frown
Whether or not I'm by your side
Just know we're on each other's minds
Oh the bliss you'll find
If we stay aligned
Can I get it through your head
Do I have to say it again and again and again

Come on and tell me!

Didn't your mama tell you not to go
And make things uncomfortable
Don't you know
You're pullin' on my heartstrings baby
It's tearing me apart
And oh you make it impossible
Now I know
This feels like a broken record on a minor chord

Broken record on a minor chord

All I ever wanted was everything
To go silky smooth
(Broken record on a minor chord)
Live in serenity both me and you

Say it!

Didn't your mama tell you not to go
And make things uncomfortable
Don't you know
You're pullin' on my heartstrings baby
It's tearing me apart
And oh you make it impossible
Now I know
This feels like a broken record on a minor chord
Broken record on a minor chord

I like the live version better. This version sounds too overproduced.

  2. tartisan

Beautiful, but your live version at the Constellation Room is soooooo incredible. You really were born to sing live!

  3. That's Just My View

Of all the songs on the album, why was THIS song not a single? This is my fave. I don't think I've heard this great of a song in a long, long time. Great job Haley! PS: Please make this a video! :-)

  4. TheSpringishere

I think this album is pretty awesome. Her vocals are really lovely on this album.

If I didn't know better I would think I'm listening to a new Amy Winehouse album. Great!

I've never understood this comparison with Amy Winehouse. They bothsing Jazz but that's it. Their voices are very different. Amy is pretty much a contralto whereas Haley is soprano, and has a much higher range. She also has far more variation in tonal colouration. The person I think of for comparison with Amy is Billy Holiday. There's a certain sourness to the tone of voice of both of them although the voices aren't really the same. I canna describe it any better than that.
I canna think of anybody that sounds much like Haley.

    r s

I cannot disagree on your assessment of the difference between the voices. What I should have said is that the feel, pace, and sound of the music on this album reminds me of "Back to Black". The style is similar, the voices less [email protected] Morris

To clarify, not so much the song "Back to Black", but the album.

    Trevor Morris

    @r s
Ah, that's thinking of a different aspect that hadna occurred to me. I see what you mean but there's quite a lot of Back to Black I havena listened to. I suppose I should rectify that.

    The Man with the Plan

@r s Haley does a damn good cover of "Back to Black" if its any consolation.

I really see no difference from the What's that sound album...it feels like a Broken Record....I think Haley should have been born like 50 years ago. With all due respect, I don't think this kind of music is the one for her....it sounds boring, all the tracks sound the same, except for those so called ballads that among them sound the same too and honestly, the whole album is a little bit too boring and that echo effect in her voice doesn't sound good at all...I don't know what happened to those great songs she had like Better, Come undone, Spiderweb, etc. She has so much potential to make incredible songs and she has already shown it during her career....I think she's running out of popularity and the number of views so far proves it. Sorry to say that since I'm a big fan of Haley's, but of she keeps on doing this kind of job, she won't ever be the singer that I'm sure, everyone would like her to be....

@Jeffrey Scott Well, also consider that one album is not necessarily career defining. It's just another collection songs assembled into one album. As she grows and expands her interests, it should end up with different results, though as I said in my last post, writing is now such a collaborative effort that one would needs to choose those individuals carefully to reach the desired result.

    M G

@Bert Jones Agreed, they're very different albums. I love them both and this one edges it out. What's That Sound's appeal is all the great covers but other than that I think it's less colorful than Lo-Fi Soul.

    Bert Jones

@M G I will say though that What's That Sound pays homage to the roots of her musical upbringing within her family. It's in that sense that I like it most. Her singing, regardless of the genre is wonderful.

    M G

@Bert Jones It's a great album for sure. My second favorite of hers.

    Trevor Morris

    @E Wayne
That's the "song" I particularly hate. But then I hate Dance so-called Music which has pathetic attempts at melody. These grossly over-amplified percussive backings and repetitive and feeble attempts at melody seem to be for musical morons who canna make out the beat and rhythm of a song from the melody.

As you can see, I hate Dance music. It's only marginally above Rap for any musicality. It's a bit of an experiment for Haley, and I hope it makes some money for her. I also hope she's got it out of her system now. I don't want to come across another of those things on another album of hers!
