Hal Ketchum - Past The Point Of Rescue Lyrics

Last night I dreamed you were back again
Larger than life again, holding me tight again
Placing those same kisses on my brow
Sweeter than ever now, lord I remember how
Couldn't get enough of kissing, do you know how much you're missing
No you don't, but I do

The days like a slow train trickle by
And even the words that I write refuse to fly
All I can hear is your song haunting me
Can't get the melody out of my head, you see
Distractions I've been using, do you know how much you're losing
No you don't, but I do

But I do, and I wonder if I'm past the point of rescue
Is no word from you at all the best that you can do
I never meant to push or shove you, do you know how much I love you
No you don't, but I do

I swore I'd never fall like this again
Fools like me never win, came to my knees again
Can't close the door on likely hood
Things might be just as good, I always believed they would
Gotta let your love invite me, baby do you think it might be
No you don't, but I do

But I do, and I wonder if I'm past the point of rescue
Is no word from you at all the best that you can do
I never meant to push or shove you, do you know how much I love you
No you don't, but I do

But I do, and I wonder if I'm past the point of rescue
Is no word from you at all the best that you can do
I never meant to push or shove you, do you know how much I love you
No you don't, but I do
I know you don't, but I do
I know you don't, but I do

  5. B.... P....

This song gives me chills when the chorus kicks in. I got the windows rattling but still can’t get it loud enough.

  6. E.... M....

My first wife and I were fortunate to catch Hal in concert in 1990 in a small bar. Still have great memories of him and his band. A true artist!! Sad to hear of his health problems. Getting old SUCKS!!!

  7. V.... D....

What a gorgeous man in this video- Would love to have a gorgeous man sing to me that way. WOW

  8. S.... D....

It's sad to hear that he has Alzheimer's disease. I think that his music will live on forever. He was one of a kind. He was really great

  9. S.... D....

This song still sounds as good as it always has. It never lost its touch

  10. C.... X....

Love the song. Don't know Hal.

  11. S.... D....

I think that his voice sounds as dark as the night. His music was really great. I think that he sounded a little like Eddy Raven. I think that his music will live on forever. I was in the navy when his music came out. It still sounds as good as it always did. He never lost his touch

  12. D.... C....

A truly great song and undoubtedly Hal Ketchum's finest recording. Saw him live in London in the 90's with my dear late wife who absolutely loved this song. Sad to hear about his health problem; life can be so cruel.

  13. c.... w....

May be the most underrated country singer of all time. Never a mention anywhere of Hal but the Past the Point of Rescue album alone should be up there with some of the greatest country albums of all time!

  14. F.... N....

  15. S.... D....

Sorry to hear that he has Alzheimer's. He was really great. His voice and his music sounds like something you might hear late at night in the desert or in the city. I had just graduated from basic training in the navy at Great Lakes in Waukegan, Illinois when this album came. I also liked his song Small Town Saturday night. I think that he sounds kind of like Eddy Raven. He was really great. I think that his and his musical style will live on forever

  16. C.... B....

I remember watching this in 1993. How time flies.

  17. D.... R....

Love it but my still favorite someplace far away

Reminds me of my momma and daddy

  18. D.... A....

    Best 3-step song ever

  19. R.... P....

Just gets you in the heart.

  20. F.... B....

Such A CLASS ACT , Love him

  21. J.... A....

Hal had the most soulful brown eyes I had ever seen. I have another video of this song in a live performance and when he looks into the camera, it's like he cuts right through my soul and I know if I ever met him in person I would be totally under his spell and "past the point of rescue." It breaks my heart to think of him overtaken by old age and that dreadful disease. I hope his family will have God's blessings and the strength only he can give, as they live through this ordeal.

  22. S.... D....

I had just graduated from basic training in the navy when this song came out. Hal Ketchum is really great. His music never lost its touch

To all those who posted comments below, thinking this song was written by Hal - it was written by an Irish singer/musician named Mick Hanly from Limerick, Ireland, who is quite famous in music circles.
It was first recorded by an Irish singer, Mary Black, and was a minor hit.
Hal made it famous and a massive hit.
