Wasnt really a big fan of this album or band for some reason i only came here from kmac and also cuz nolly helped out on it. I wish nolly would come back to periphery and tour with them im getting ready to see them live in september and kinda wish they had a bassist to complete the live performance. No one could ever replace nollys musical geniousness. I understand he still produces and works on albums with periphery but its just not the same without him full circle

In the proud tradition of DT, including having a vocalist with a strange timbre to his voice. Hopefully the guys never do to him what Portnoy and Petrucci did to LaBrie and push him to sing WRONG so he'd sound "more metal".

This song is completely insane, but its amazing. The way it moves between segments so seamlessly, blending elements of prog, metal, electronica and experimental music all while maintaining a constant claustrophobic atmosphere and surprisingly catchy chorus, no words for it really.

Is this song about giving birth? Parasite, leech, pulling out the cord, wakening the beast. Lots of words here that can used for that theme. Maybe a drug addict giving birth to a child? The rest of the lyrics sound like it could work.

That's a concept album, to understand the lyrics you have to listen to the full album!

Did anyone else notice that some of the ink blots are the same shapes from the into to Fallout New Vegas?

Not sure if people have noticed, but check out the map at 1:58 in the video. There's a "Midas Wing". Lyrics to the song "Cockroach King" do mention that the Cockroach King has a Midas touch.

Another cool thing is that the map at 1:55 in the video clearly shows "Block 2". If you check out the lyrics of Good Doctor, the very first line is "Calling Dr. Rex to Cell block 2". Well, this seems to be the same block 2 shown in this video!

Exactly at 2:19, there's a page which reads the exact lyrics of the song "The Good Doctor". The lyrics written in the page are : " Make sure his arms are bound
And all his pills go down
Make all his secrets drown
Render his mind unsound"

At this point, do note that I had the slow down the speed of the video to 0.25x to read the stuff written in the pages. That said, at around 2:21, we can see that the title of the page says "Doctor : E.C Tokias-Rex". And yes, the first line of "The Good Doctor" referred to "Dr. Rex".Furthermore, it reads "Treatment : Electroshock Therapy",and the chorus to "The Good Doctor" also mentions " Electricity is the prescription he needs ". To top it all off, the third thing written in that page is "Patient : #21". Going back to lyrics of "The Good Doctor", the first verse has the lines " Twenty inmates scream in their beds But one, one is silent ". Well, this matches up perfectly as well. There are twenty other people, and the patient in question is patient number 21 as shown in the video.

At around 2:21, we can see the words "Inside his sparks fly" written on the page. And well, there's a line in "The Good Doctor" that says "Inside his mind, sparks fly".

At around 2:23, the page reads "Parasites as thick as thieves paralyzed my golden wings". There are many mentions of golden wings in the song "Cockroach King". Now at 2:24, the page reads the lyrics to "Puzzle Box", which are clearly from the perspective of the patient. Now, this page seems to be a direct continuation of the page in 2:23 that read "Parasites as thick as thieves paralyzed my golden wings" and hence are the first person words of the patient #21, who might as well be the Cockroach King seeing the reference to "my golden wings".

I'm probably overthinking, but yeah. At 2:24 another page reads "the answer Crystallised in history" (Crystallised with a capital C). At 1:56, the map has a "Crystal Wing". Guess what, there's a song by Haken named "Crystallised" as well. Not sure about the logical connection, but just putting this out there.

There are more than subtle references to the Cockroach King in "The Good Doctor" as well. There's a keyboard keyboard part exactly similar to one in "Cockroach King". The last line of the chorus of "The Good Doctor" says "Brings an empire to its knees". The last chorus in "Cockroach King" has the lyric " An empire falling to its knees".

From all this, I think we can safely conclude that the "The Good Doctor" and "Puzzle Box" are very closely related and happen in the same universe. Furthermore, I think it is not absurd to speculate that the Cockroach King is actually patient #21, the patient from whose perspective "Puzzle Box" is written.


P.S : If you have difficulty in finding the exact things mentioned here in the video, feel free to let me know, I'll post screenshots of the same. And as I said before, set the video speed to 0.25x atleast one second before the timings mentioned in this answer and keep pausing and resuming quickly to get the desired part of the video!

Without a doubt the most original sounding prog rock band to come along since Rush! HAKEN is the best prog band in the world right now! Dream Theater was my favorite, but HAKEN is more original sounding now. I just completely fell in love with them! Their music is so fucking awesome! It’s like they remind me of when I first found Rush in 1975 and they had a new sound that nobody else had. That’s what HAKEN has. A sound that nobody else has right now!!!

Malina is incredibly underrated. What an excellent album.

3:42 Roscharch's two bears highfiving

This song resembles/references Pareidolia a lot:
- Structure is essentially the same (Intro riff - Verse - Chorus - Heavier verse - Chorus - Proggy bridge - Quiet bridge - Heavy bridge - Ending). Only difference is that Pareidolia adds another Chorus near the end.
- The vocals "style" is similar too, especially during the bridge. Some of the lyrics seem to be the same/refer to Pareidolia, at least to my untrained ear.
