Haken - Because It's There Lyrics

This life is a dream
A gift we receive
To live and to love
We forge The Path

Our nightmare in birth
Our struggle for worth
In vain we carry on
Our mission to become

"Dream this life
Forge a path
Please take this gift
To live, to love"

Adapt to this world
It's a a chance we must take
We'll sing our song
We'll play our hand

Why allow this crooked fate?
"Broken world"
Retaliate
The tunnel's light is unmoving
"Accept defeat"
Don't be afraid
It burns your eyes but you persevere
"Obscures the path"
You must adapt because it's there

Climb, find your way
Scale high, don't look back
With hope you will find
The life you seek

Judgement from birth
Criticize our worth
We struggled to uphold
Struck down, will we fold?

Climb, find your way
Scale high, don't look back
With hope you will find
The life you seek

"I wish I could be some one
Be the moon and be the sun
Ambition burned my wings ablaze
Shed a tear in these dark days
Tearing down the walls of love
Soaring through the fire above
Pride exists to be reclaimed
Roll the dice don't lose the game
Carry the weight of the world
The summit says you'll prove my worth
Let me claim what's rightfully
Yours to take and mine to keep
Stars begin to swarm around
The path of fate this tired ground
Challenge met but all the while
A mountain build on greed and guile"

Sorry can't do do this band! Tried every album. Amazing Musicians. No doubt but can't do the fluffy sissy singer moaning non stop

  4. Kaze

I've known this song for a while but 2:20 always makes me tear up at how beautiful life is. Every time man. I find myself revisiting this song whenever I'm thankful

  5. luminol12

The album cover pictures in Spotify are so small that I never saw the person pushing the boulder before.

  9. Branislav Stropkai

I didn't expect a caress on the soul this strong. When I first listened to mountain, this track hit me like a truck.

  10. leonardo parra

no entiendo como puede haber 10 pelotudos que le den unlike a este tema... por favor.. temazo... Haken es lo mejor que nos ha traido este milenio en todo el genero rock..

  11. Konstantin S. Uvarin

So the song title is actually a George Mallory (a mountain climber) quote. And the lyrics quote the first and the last songs of the album.

  12. BigtimeBit

This song is so amazing, it made me get the chills how amazing it was

  13. Stan Um

Man, I know there's some tweaking, but the harmonies, especially with the bass/baritone being so strong, is beautiful.

  14. Bobby Bradbury

That harmony at the beginning though... Sounds like a goddamn pipe organ

    Cr8Tron

Or melodyne, to be more precise. :P

  15. Amanita Muscaria

Holy shit, it took me more than a year to notice the man rolling a stone (I guess it's Sisyphos) on the cover

    MegaZeroX7

OH MY GOD!!!!!!!! I've listened to this album for so long now and never saw this!

    Brian S

Neither did I, I've owned the digital version though, but still surprised I never took notice. I've owned it since months after release.

    Kyle Blazek

Wow! I never noticed that. I always thought it was a bird. The boulder looks like a birds head and the man looks like the birds beak.

    petegruszek

Amanita Muscaria But then there's an Atlas Stone on this album .

    Marco Aurelio Solis

    Same here haha

  16. Anwesh Bhattacharya

Today I will be writing the entrance test for my dream college. It's difficult to qualify it and my chances of success are somewhat skewed. However, I believe that my life will turn out to be beautiful no matter where I get into if my attitude is positive. This song comes to my mind
    Thank you, Haken.

    EveRoxAnne

Definitely... I know this feeling that Haken is able to grow inside of oneself. Hope your life turned out beautiful so far :)

  17. Noober

One of the most inspirational pieces I know, just by listening to it I get all positive and hopeful for the future.

    nallly

I get suicidal but as long as we're both inspired...

    Valerio Cesarini

Noober Came here exactly to be inspired to fight, to climb and find my way :) Glad someone else feels like me. Hopefully we'll scale high

    Driss

On the next song he "falls back to earth" so idk xD

    Noober

Every piece is a thought and a separate moment. As there's a time to feel inspired there's a time to feel sad and disheartened : )

  18. Sean Patrick

anyone know of they're using a vocoder? I'm pretty sure they aren't the first minute but then it sounds like they bring it in for the second half of the intro

    LootFragg

Been asking myself if they are just dope at a capella.

    Iridescent Noise

everyone in the band sings these parts live. for the studio it's mostly or all Jennings

    kelly hacker

bruh they are not using a vocoder. they are purely using reverb at the beginning to imitate a sound of singing in a concert hall as a choir would . then the second half is more than half the amount of reverb . the beginning is the into section to the a Capella . like I said imitating a choir in a church/ concert hall . etc they are just amazing at harmonies so it sounds super crisp!

  19. RichSan

    A Masterpiece.

  20. Iridescent Noise

Anyone reminded of "along for the ride"? by dream theater? It even starts with rain effects!

Hell, even the stupid hater comments are the same. "its not prog wah wah fucking wah :("

    Dan Yuleo

+Iridescent Noise They must have stopped listening by 1:30.

  21. Sung Hyun Lim

Music first, then genre. Genre is an a posteriori label! Just enjoy the music and forget about the labels.

  22. KazeReload

Guys, really? Why do you feel the need to classify so bad? What if Haken would make an electronic-only music album tomorrow, would you still try to tell if they're prog metal or prog rock? A band's style could change from an album to the other, so how the hell do you think you can tell if they belong to 2 genres which differ in such little things?

    Hoelzelc

@KazeReload Agreed. For me, genre is a classification system simply to put my music into convenient 'bins' for purposes of sharing. In a sense, 'genre' is a form of language, with the purpose of simply communicating. Like any good language it's dynamic and changes, whose duty is to respectfully convey the information of the sender to best be received by the receiving parties.

In this way, there is no reason for anyone to get upset about genre or argue it for that matter. Perhaps arguing the tenants of a genre or discussing if individual groups qualify to be a part of a genre, but there should never be a sense of pride to be a member of a genre, or as a fan to feel offended if music you enjoy is not part of a particular genre. All genre are emotionless and equal, and thus should be treated as such.

  23. brazwen

Intro made think of LOTRs O_o

    Ran Atash

brazwen what I never hear this song in lotr movies and why do you think of?

  24. ImagezAndWords

Prog transcends genres. So chill. Also, I am so prog that I used the word "transcends" in a sentence.

    nallly

    That's special...

    Manifest Destiny

    "Chill" lol

    J P

I am so prog I don't even use sentences

  25. xFuddyDuddy

I don't count Haken as progressive metal. They are Prog Rock through and through. Aquarius was borderline metal, but ever since King Crimson it's obvious that prog rock is heavier than traditional rock. It doesn't mean it's metal.

    Big guy for you

Prog metal is a sub genre of prog rock

    Æthea

The borders of prog rock and prog metal are nearly unexistent...best example for this is Haken's "Falling Back to Earth". It has some pretty heavy riffs, but also parts that are rather slow and chilling, so perfectly on the border of prog rock and metal :P

    Iridescent Noise

    @ShiZostu
yea i agree, prog is meant to be open. Mixing all sorts of genres.

    LootFragg

Might not be accurate but I feel like sharing this as the idea is really cool.
    http://everynoise.com/engenremap.html
It's basically a number (not all) of genres sorted by arbitrary factors (technical to organic, dense to spikey or something like that) on a 2D plane. Gives a nice impression of the huge variety of genres.

  26. John Maconochie

    Omg....

  27. Gargamelle PC

I never thought that Birth and Life could sound together so nicely, or path with worth... xDD

    LootFragg

Ahh, you mean the different text lines sung over each other during the second chorale. Yeah, I love that, too.

  28. Andrew Whitehead

You people need to stop assuming. Just look it up. There classified on everything as progressive metal. Saying this song isn't metal or isn't progressive just means your ignorant. Most bands always have a couple songs that are more of a chorale and made to be calming. Just because it's different doesn't disapprove there style or genre. Just appreciate it for what it is.

  29. Rainer Kunze

I fully agree. Thats no haevy metal at all. Gentle Giant Yes and dream Theatre or even Ruish but it is very nice music

  30. Michael Jung

wow feels like you recited heaven's image

  31. layton s

    Sounds more like Moon Safari.

  32. Pianopower

....I still fail to see why are people saying Haken is a metal band. They are as metal as Porcupine Tree are. Yes they have a few metal-ish songs and sometimes they incorporate metal elements but it is not the basis for their music.Haken is more of a prog rock band that I COULD BET MY LEFT NUT listened a lot of Yes and Gentle Giant while writing this album. More Gentle GIant than Yes I would say. And having listened a lot of Dream Theater (and I dont even like DT)  there is nothing even comparable to them. Sorry for my english.

    Joan Conza Mondragón

    @richogem D: wut

    brainsupremacy

Great truth. To define Haken as a metal band is indeed ridiculous. They're ve got plenty of different styles. Mixing them so perfectly is definetely their strenght. In their previous works we can listen to a major metal influence but but to appreciate that part only, it's not worth of it.

    ale laera

    The mountain - prog rock
All the other albums - prog metal
    It isn't so difficoult.

    Michael Monro

Listen to the Architect and tell me it's not metal

    Sergio Velasquez

¿Cómo es que no te gusta DT y Haken, sí?

  33. King Curry

The absolute highlight of a good album.

Thinking prog metal; I love it.

  34. Kevin Kleine Heckmann

THAT IS PROGRESSIVE!-if you ask me

    JONATAS DA SILVA SANTOS

    MrHeckyO yes!

  35. Januz

Remember me to listen to this song, if I should ever be tired of my life.

  36. Irri

    Those drums blow my mind.

  37. Bass of Montecristo

Yes, the world is bad as it is... but still I have to be grateful to be alive and listen to such an amazing song like this. All the songs on this album are brilliant, but this one does so much for me. Thank you, Haken.

  38. Young Man D

    1:01 Holy shit

  39. MM Studios

This is the most peaceful chorus, I've ever heard. I´m in love with this song! :)

  40. Boosted Vibes

Prog music definitely needs to grow on you. Its just different, and I actually am not a prog fanatic either. I was introduced to the genre by Haken (as opposed to dream theater, like everyone else). And I couldn't get through half an album at first, though I was enchanted by the melodies of their first album from the start, it was just so different that I couldn't listen to it for long periods of time. Doesn't make the music bad though, in fact, I think the mountain is a great album.

    CornyTelecaster49

Introduced to prog by Haken? Dude, what about King Crimson, Pink Floyd, ELP, Yes etc. ?

  41. Boosted Vibes

I really like the bit that starts at 1:50. The effect produced on me is that you're walking on a path and you're constantly being tempted to stray off of it (the melody shifts on and off the path like you're being bombarded by temptations and defeating thoughts). But you continue on, "because its there"...it being whatever it is that the listener is looking for. If you knew that whatever you're looking for in life was achievable, wouldn't you push forward, "because its there"? Brilliant music!

  42. Alex Rancourt

I'm telling you, I've been following them since they released their first album, and they completely renewed my vision of prog metal! In all of what they've done so far, I'm sure you will find what touches you if you take the time! ;)

  43. Peter Albrethsen

I do play music. I've played guitar and bass for over 10 years. I came here and said I didn't think it sounded good. That's my opinion. I understand the complexity of the music and appreciate it; it's just that the note progressions and melodies sounded boring to me. I am a big fan of quite a few prog acts, and that's why I checked these guys out. I will say they are growing on me, though :)

    Hazen Stribling

this is, in my opinion, their worst album. Try visions (particularly the song, Shapeshifter), and Affinity (any song here is great)

  44. Alex Rancourt

Do you play music? As a bass player, I can definitely tell you that the bass sounds GREAT, and I don't think it is arguable. If you don't like this music, it's fine with me, but don't come and say that it doesn't sound good at all, because that is pure nonsense when you carefully look at all the crazy shit Haken has done that no one had ever done before, which is rare as fuck in modern music.

  45. Илья Олейник

    sounds as Tobascus

  46. Peter Albrethsen

I don't get it...everyone praises this band as being absolutely amazing, but after listening to a good number of their songs and trying to like them, I can't seem to understand the hype. I don't think anything really sounds good.

  47. Paul Seguna

    That settles it..
    im preordering this shit

  48. Phillip Swanson

I completely agree. Haken is my absolute favorite band and even though Visions was incredible, I still had a couple I thought could be touched up. This album...is perfect.

  49. vr2zxd

This may very well be my favorite song on the album. The more I listen to the whole thing, the more I realize that all of the songs are quite varied (whether it's between each song or sometimes within a single song). There isn't a track I dislike; in fact, I love all of them! Extremely rare for me to say that about an entire album.

  50. goseck valle

    It is awesone :O

  51. Mario Dusk

And neo prog, and electronic too... Experimental too...

  52. Mario Dusk

This is an example of smart and beautiful mixture of styles, classical, space rock, pop, medieval, progressive rock... Awesome stuff.

  53. AssKicker47

    Music at its best
