Haggard, Merle - The Legend Of Bonnie And Clyde Lyrics
Bonnie was a waitress in a small cafe
Clyde Barrow was the rounder that took her away
They both robbed and killed until both of them died
So goes the Legend of Bonnie and Clyde.
Told of the lawmen left dying or dead
Some say that Clyde made her life a shame
But the legend made Bonnie the head of the game.
The rampage grew wilder with each passing day
The odds growing smaller with each get-a-way
With the end growing closer the harder they fought
With blood on their hands they were bound to get caught.
They drove back from town on one bright summer day
With no thought of dyin' they pulled to the side
But death lay there waiting for Bonnie and Clyde.
Two years or runnin' was ended that day
For robbin' and killin' they both had to pay
But we'll always remember how they lived and died
So goes the legend of Bonnie and Clyde.
Bonnie and Clyde...

Haggard, Merle The Legend Of Bonnie And Clyde Comments
I love Bonnie and Clyde they were slaughtered it wasn’t a shootout as they clam
Awesome!
Did you know Bonnie had a limp because of acid?? Like if you've learnt something. Comment if you already knew.
My great grandfather actually knew Bonnie and Clyde before they became outlaws. He was a little kid and worked next door to the cafe she worked at back in the day. Thank god for Frank Hamer, a legend of a man and a hero for taking out these two psychopaths.
anyone know the intro?
Why dont someone play John Prine on the radio?
Lived near where they died. Passed the marker many times. It's not set in the place where they were actually killed. That took place a ways up the road a bit. Many say it was a shame the way the lawmen gunned them down. I guess they didn't have to shoot quite so many times. But dead is dead. And if they hadn't ambushed them there would have been a gun battle. And lawmen would've most certainly died. They vowed to not be taken alive. They meant that. And they intended to take somebody with them when they went out. Both were extremely proficient with a number of firearms. The Tommy was their weapon of choice. If they had been given any clue as to what was in store they wouldn't have given themselves up. In the end there was only one way for it to play out. Bonny Parker and Clyde Barrow just had to die. It's been viewed by some starry-eyed, romantic young folks as one of the greatest love stories ever told. Truth is, they were just two outlaws who took what wasn't theirs and that included the lives of the people they took it from many times. People who worked for what little they had and died unjustly because two thugs didn't have the balls and backbone to do the same.
Yes! What a way to wite it!
The Browning automatic rifle also known as a bar was Clyde's weapon of choice
My Nans Name is Bonnie
Not real accurate on how they were murdered, but a purty song nonetheless.Ol' Merle was the first concert l ever saw in 1967 or 68.I was5 or 6,this was the old Sam Houston Colosseum in downtown Houston.
The weren't murdered they were rightly executed
merle was a bad ass
Why can't they country like this these days?
There are still a few traditional style artists.
@Kenny Dobbins who can you let me know
@Aaron Mills Alan Jackson, George Strait, Randy Travis, Vince Gill and Marty Stuart.
I love it so much
The best,
Glen Campbell plays the lead in on this recording.
great song
my dogs name is bonnie and clyde
I got a cat named Bonnie and a cat named Clyde. It's Merle's fault.
Unless you have 1 dog named Bonnie and Clyde your dogs name's are Bonnie and Clyde. If you can't bother to use capitalization or punctuation it's not surprise you don't understand when to use is or are. Another star of the public school system no doubt.
@Lenny Buttz chill out
@Jack Pardun Whatever Jack
@Lenny Buttz ha
Glen Campbell played the banjo on the original
We never knew Glen campell played the banjo for merel hagger
Not the original. It's a Re-recording from the 90's.
I've not heard a different version. if its better than this one it must be awesome!!!
The original version was in the late 60's. Merle's voice changed over the years.
good ass song
badass song I love merle
i love the old country
This is country , fiddle steel guitars ...
I'll take the glorification of cop killing by the way one of the greatest country singers ever, please.
@squawcreekkid u threw the first stone jew. Answer your own question.
@squawcreekkid your words and u don't have a top lip.
*Haggard probably was inspired to write the song after hearing stories from his parents--- who, as you know were refugees from the Dust Bowl of Oklahoma.*
Actually, the historical couple notwithstanding, he was inspired by the major success of the 1967 BONNIE AND CLYDE film starring Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway. Many artists were. The year 1968 saw the release of a lot of Bonnie and Clyde-inspired songs (e.g., Serge Gainsbourg & Brigitte Bardot's French duet), because the movie was a worldwide pop cultural phenomenon. It's a landmark film that changed the course of American cinema. It also influenced fashion trends, such as berets, fedoras, cigars, and pistol-shaped lighters as must-have accessories!
Now THIS is my kind of country!!
This is a little bit of a lighter version than Merle's original recording.Still a great song..
Good song Merle
I love Merle, but prefer the original recording.
Merle Haggard wrote it.
@Don Rearic I'm aware of that.......but this isn't his original studio recording. This is a later version.

It is obvious some assholes click every song available on youtube and hit dislike to get their nuts off !!!
great song
Everyman needs a Bonnie in his life.. Johnny Cash had June ... Look at the way he looks at her in Jackson I want a love like that
I want this kind of relationship except robbing, killing ect..
At least Bonnie & Clyde were real and a true story, Romeo & Juliete is just fiction made by shakespear, similar attracts last longer than opposites, so thumbs up if u are tired of clishes!
@chaddiewill I don't know if you have heard, but Glen Campbell has been diagnosed with Alzeimher's Disease.
A #1 hit on the Country & Western charts for Merle Haggard and The Strangers. It was the 139th #1 C&W hit of the Rock Era. A follow-up to chaddiewill's comment: Glen Campbell has been diagnosed with Alzeihmer's Disease. Please keep him in your prayers.
hard to believe that glen campbell played guitar in this song. two amazing performers and entainers in one album....amazing ...thanks for the post
Good song!
