Haggard, Merle - It's All In The Movies Lyrics

They were so much in love with life, happy every way.
But love the movie began with, some how got lost in the play.
Like a fire burning out of control, you got caught up in the actor's role
And you cried on my shoulder when it came to an end.

But that's all in the movies it won't happen to you and I
That's all in the movies; so baby don't cry
It's all in the movies, it won't happen to us I know
That's all in the movies just a bad picture how.

But that's all in the movies it won't happen to you and I
That's all in the movies; so baby don't cry
It's all in the movies, it won't happen to us I know
That's all in the movies just a bad picture how...

Back when country wasn’t cool I was still country. Love this song.

  2. w.... e....

One of his many many great songs I'm always playing on guitar

  3. R.... B....

Fxxxx today’s country.... it’s all corporate crap,, There are no real country singers anymore.... Merle was one of the last, Country music sucks now

  4. H.... R....

I actually think Merle's son, Ben does a smoother prettier version of this song. But it's a cover of Daddy's original.

  5. B.... W....

Ear of the beholder Steve. Especially reminiscent of each other on "The Cowboy Rides Away" and "Ace In The Hole." Just my opinion. You have yours. Cool.B.W.

  6. D.... M....

Love you Merle "" thank you for the Beautiful music and your Beautiful Son's Marty Noel Ben 💘💘

  7. B.... W....

Not only was George Strait (and every Country Act since about 1972) massively influenced by this man and his incredible music Merle even sounds strongly reminiscent of George here! The Don Markham saxophone just adds another layer of perfection.B.W.

    B.... W....

I don't think their voices are even similar. Certainly George is a good singer and has a lot of good songs, but his voice is much more plain than Merle's. Merle, especially in his prime, has a much better range in pitch than George, and could certainly hit much deeper low notes. Merle is also much more dynamic in creating different tones and other subtleties in his voice. His voice is also much more powerful. Yeah, as good as George is, the overall quality of Merle's voice is just on another level.

How does someone grow up in a box car, lose his father at 9 years old, become a juvenile delinquent committing petty crimes and finally end up in San Quentin, turn his life around to become the King of Country Music and to write a song this beautiful? You’re an inspiration Merle and someone special who was put on this earth to bring joy to others. You have to me. I’ll love and miss you forever. 57. C.... G....

Wow ! I like this one . Thanks for the upload .

  58. S.... ....

Great song.. A Latino friend of mine turned me on to it when I was in the Army at FT. Hood in  1976..77...It reminded me  of 1975 when I had Been in South Korea...I meet a Korean girl and.. we kind of fell in love.. I did.. but I understood Nothing about real Asian culture ,,,and... I was drunk a lot of the time... This song  captures the exact feeling I had when  I realized... We were Never going to get married..Thanks Merle...Soul...

    S.... ....

+SuperSquawker In a few words you really painted a picture of this song, and a piece of your life. Amazing how the 3 minutes of a song takes us back there... to whatever that period, place, and person was... like a time machine.
And, you ended your post with the perfect word to describe Merle's singing and music.

    S.... ....

Like PabluchoViision said, that is perhaps the internet comment that has emotionally moved me the most

    S.... ....

SuperSquawker - Who knows, maybe that Korean girl has thought of you over the years. Hope you are both well.

    S.... ....

Yes, they have a way of working themselves into Your very soul! I didn't realize how much she really loved me until the phone woke me at 2 in the morning and she was telling me she was in New York. Sad situation, I was in a marriage that would not let me go until JAG had really 'fu-ed' me good. I had left her crying on the train platform when I left for Seoul to head back to the States in Sept. 1983! GOD BLESS!!!

  59. S.... J....

Everything today is CRAP!!! A lot of it attempted remakes of the past. Just can't re-do what's already been done. That's not to say that some folks have an Okay voice, just nobody has the heart or the oomph to put their all into anything. Sad, sad, sad.

    S.... J....

That and half of it sounds like rap!! Older country like Cash Jones ect.!!!

    S.... J....

Merle's boys sure can sing though!

  60. F.... ....

    Classic

  61. Y.... G....

LOVE THIS SONG! love merle haggard!

  62. H.... ....

This is about as smooth as it gets. A great song from Merle's It's All In the Movies movies album officially released in February of 1976. You gotta love Don layin it down with his sax..

    H.... ....

Yeah that sax kinda puts the gravy on the biscuit dont it..

    H.... ....

Icon legend no more like you now or never Merle!!!!!

  63. j.... ....

    Love it !

  64. A.... V....

This is a beautiful song. The Hag can lay down a killer melody!!!

  65. s.... ....

    Rap makes me ........sick.

  66. G.... F....

Thank god, we are not in the movies, very little hapiness, except for Paul Newman, and his lovely wife, Joanne. Gaylon Fox New Mexico, U.S. A.

  67. S.... B....

The hub of country music in Nashville isn't run by people that have spent their life inside of Country music. It's run by people that are from New York city and Los Angles. Years ago when Country started making big money, the powers to be at the major record companies in NY and LA, decided those hillbillies in Nashville can't handle this big business. So they took over..That has cullminated into going after the very young fans. And entertainers come and go just as they do in Pop and Rock.

  68. i.... ....

    I love this song.

  69. C.... ....

Thanks for uploading. This was one of my favorite country songs on the radio in 1975 before I jumped ship and started listening to AOR the following year.

  70. T.... F....

    this song is beautiful

  71. d.... ....

I have it on Hag: The Studio Recordings 1969-1976. Great song. Love how Merle used saxophones instead of violins. So did Ellington.

  72. H.... S....

Thank the British label Bgo (beat goes on records) for rereleasing this incredible album on CD as a 2 for 1 with Its All In The Movies and Best Damn FIddle Player In The World, in which Merle taught himself to play fiddle in a day for the album.

  73. N.... G....

I just saw a live version of this song with an introduction by Toby Keith, maybe in a concert two years ago, Merle singing is so good that I think is better than the recorded version done when he was younger.

  74. .... ....

yeah. The only other copy on here was shit, so I decided to convert my dad's LP of this album onto the computer and share it. because I knew how much of a piss off it is not to find a song, and I had the tools to share it with everyone

    .... ....

volvodude101 Thank you sooo much I hate the digitally remastered shit and I wouldnt listen to Toby Keith call call hogs. Even the same picture on dads 8track. Autism loves good music and never forgets it

    .... ....

    Thank you

  75. m.... ....

I don't know about the 80's & 90's. They had some novelty but the overall quality of popular music from around 1965 up to around 1977 or so was BY FAR the best in almost all genres of popular music.

Actually that period was a renaissance that will NEVER be repeated again.

It's a joke to even try to compare today's music or the 1990s to that period. Anyone who lived through it knows what I'm talking about.

    m.... ....

Yes, im from the 60's & there's no comparence!

    m.... ....

No autotune, prolific writer and singer . He was certainly a common man's poet. My favorite songs we were privileged to hear , if I could only fly, listening to the wind, silver wings. Thank you Mighty Merle 😎👌✌👍🇺🇸

  76. b.... ....

Just saw Hag play 2 nights ago, didn't think he would play this song, but I was hopeful. He was awesome for a 75 year old guy! A true original!

    b.... ....

blocksize wow,I wish I could of been as lucky as to see him live.

  77. .... ....

@robocong7420 for country yeah, but I haven't heard anything good in other genres

  78. J.... M....

@volvodude101 I agree. Country stations are playing more Pop than country now. And the final straw was hearing rap on my local country station.

  79. a.... ....

    thanks for posting!

  80. K.... M....

just gotta say thank you for uploading this. its SO hard to find.

  81. R.... M....

When i listen to Merle,I feel closer to my Dad.
All my honour, respect and love to you Dad.
    Rob.

  82. w.... ....

i always thought this whole LP was very underrated....kinda got lost in the man's huge catalog....did it ever make it to CD? wish it would if not...

  83. .... ....

@BloozeDaddy76 I definitely concur on that point, music is getting shittier all the time

  84. .... ....

    @txncgirl1 You're welcome

  85. N.... G....

Thanks for the upload, love this.

  86. p.... ....

Really good song. & Merle is a great singer. Thanks for posting.

  87. B.... ....

A number one hit from 1975, and still a better song than anything on the charts in 2011...

  88. M.... ....

2:48 Merle sings, "It can't happen to us, I know." When I was a kid, I swore he was singing, "It can't happen to a psycho."

  89. b.... ....

WMAQ and WJJD would play this song over the air as i would head to Playball Enterprises on the Northside of Chicago back in '75. Thanks for the memories. bilbo2shire

  90. .... ....

    @thevibeshop no problemo

  91. J.... M....
