Hagar, Sammy - Remember The Heroes Lyrics

Stranger in a foreign land
Fearful cries surround him
Returning home a wounded man
To find he's been forgotten, yeah

Courage is the badge he wears
Blinded by obsession
Wars are won by those who dare
The memory still haunts him

Remember the heroes
Who fight for the right to choose
Remember the heroes
We've all got a lot to lose

A rebel to the naked eye
An undiscovered legend
Face the facts and don't ask why
It's something to believe in
In the dark, day and night
Fight for wrong to prove what's right

Remember the heroes
Who fight for the right to choose
Remember the heroes
Just another life to use
Remember the heroes
We've all got alot to lose

(Remember the heroes)
(Remember the heroes)
(Remember the heroes)
(Remember the heroes)

To take one life without a say
Demanded without reason
To turn our backs and walk away
A faceless act of treason
A father's son must carry on
The wound is only deepened

Remember the heroes
Who fight for the right to choose
Remember the heroes
It's just another life to use

Remember the heroes
You know we all got alot to lose
Remember the heroes
Who's gonna fill their shoes?

  16. K.... F....

Love this song! Sammy and Mike Reno with Jonathan Cain!

  17. M.... ....

From the album Three Lock Box, 1982, one of the first rock artists to put into words the issues of treating our returning service members properly. As to the issue of "Thank you for your service" I got out in 1978 and never heard a thank you until 2006. It was okay though. I didn't go off to serve my country for praise or recognition. I came to the realization that there was a job to be done protecting our country and not a lot of people signing up to do it. To those who say "Thank you for your service" that's fine. But don't JUST thank a Veteran. DO SOMETHING for them. If you are in a position to do so, give them a job and some training. Volunteer to read to a Veteran at a local VA hospital, volunteer to serve a meal at a local Veterans shelter. The effort you give will be truly appreciated,

  18. M.... D....

  35. s.... ....

Cool song. I've either never heard it or it's been so long. I got here because Fox news was using a cover of it for a bumper. Nice to see it's a long song. So many songs after the 80's just got shorter and shorter. I really like the long songs.

  36. A.... H....

    FUCKIN SAMMY! Thank you brother

  43. z.... ....

we must love the vets, heroes they are if they obey the f.... law !

  44. R.... ....

Song might be cool but definitely quite politics and unfortunately false in high levels. Just to hide actually what has really happened in Vietnam, South America in those years. If anybody from government did not make this group make this song, then it is obvious that propaganda of government everywhere about everything I have said above is successful. In this case we can say this group also does not know a thing about policies of usa. Read historian professors from Washington university read Chomsky but not a little wholly. In any case, this band believes that USA soldiers fought for something good. Like I said this is nonsense, this is basically what people who really love USA try to make other people understand all tragedies because of war. Between 500.000 and 1.000.000 Indonesian people including children women was killed by usa policies. What a painful incident those people experienced.

  45. a.... ....

i am always uncomfortable when people thank me for my service. not that i don't appreciate it, but all i ever think about when people thank me are my brothers who did not survive. they are the real heroes not me. if you want to thank someone thank their families. for those families have to endure without their loved ones. the true ultimate sacrifice.

as for this song, one of my favorite Sammy Hagar tunes, and i have been a fan since he was just the red rocker, even before Van Hagar.

as for the now 32 dislikes, i hope one day you wake up and realize just how blessed you are to be an American. or as a man once wrote; "for those who fought for it, freedom has a flavor the protected will never know."

  46. J.... G....

if it wasn't for the military we would have no freedom

    I.... B....

That may be true. But if our Military and politicians are not fighting for those principles of individual liberty, than it will be lost. Ask any kid out of college today; "What is the difference between individualism and collectivism?", and they will not know. Liberty ends in their lifetime.

    Alejandro I. Manrique-Lozano.
    Birth: Oct. 3, 1959
    Death: Dec. 20, 1989

A Peruvian immigrant who joined the United States Army last year in the hope of furthering his education today became the first of the soldiers killed in Panama to be buried with full military honors at Arlington National Cemetery.

Alejandro I. Manriquelozano, one of the 23 United States servicemen killed and the first of the 504th PIR out of Fort Bragg N.C and the 82 Airborne Devision.

Army officers at the gravesite and at the Pentagon said they knew almost nothing about the 30-year-old soldier. But family members from Lima and New York said that Specialist Manriquelozano had loved America, and that he had not died in vain because he he had been defending the nation's ideals.

Even so, there was a clash of cultures after the last soft notes of a bugler's taps drifted off into the cold winter air.

As Army officers tried to preserve the strict precision of the ceremony, relatives from Peru spilled out their indignation over how they were treated by the Pentagon when they tried to learn what happened to the slain soldier. They also told of their struggle to raise money and obtain the necessary visas to get to Washington in time to attend his funeral.

His parents, two sisters, brother and two uncles were ultimately able to travel here, family members said, through the aid of Representative Gary Ackerman, Democrat of Queens, who heard of their plight from neighbors in his district.

Mr. Ackerman learned that the Manriquelozano family had been denied visas by the American Embassy in Peru and that they lacked the money for airline tickets or hotel rooms here.

The Congressman, reached by telephone this evening, said he had arranged for visas and persuaded an airline to cover the round-trip fares. He said he personally shared the cost of two rooms with a hotel chain.

''I think it's embarrassing that these people gave up a son to fight for this country, for him to be buried with full honors in the national cemetery, and then no one shows any concern for the parents to come to the funeral,'' Mr. Ackerman said. ''They should have a good impression of the country they gave their son's life to.'' He Parachutes, Then Dies

An antitank weapons specialist with the 82d Airborne Division stationed at Fort Bragg, N.C., Specialist Manriquelozano parachuted onto the airfield at Torrijos International Airport on Dec. 20 and was immediately killed by machine gun fire, family members said, relaying what they were told by the Army.

Jose Canales, a cousin from Peru who manages a hotel in Manhattan, said that Specialist Manriquelozano came to the United States five years ago and settled in Lauderhill, Fla. He gained the status of a permanent resident alien when he married an American two years ago.

Mr. Canales said that the young man's dream was to become a civil engineer, and he hoped the army would be his route to a college education and a higher-paying job to help his family back in Peru.

At the burial, the Army presented the soldier's widow, Sheree, and his mother, Angelica, each with a folded American flag and a purple heart. His parents, in an interview later in the day, said that he had called them on Dec. 16 and confided in his father that he would be going to Panama.
    from the NY Times

Specialist Fourth Class, 30 years old; Co. D, 2d Battalion, 504th Infantry (PIR), Fort Bragg, NC; home of record - Florida (at Panama Viejo, Panama City, 20 Dec 89)

GOD BLESS HIM ALWAYS thank you for his service. He'll always be a hero.

You didn't credit Mike Reno for sharing lead vocals on this awesome song. Sammy's voice and Mike's sound similar but they both shared lead vocal on this.

    @Buck Knuckles
    Fellow Navy man myself.
1983 - 1988, although my duty was all east coast.
I left Southern California and went to boot camp in Orlando, Florida.
Personnelman A School in Meridian, Mississippi, which I got kicked out of and sent to the fleet as an undesignated striker.
Charleston, South Carolina was my home port for both my first and second ships.
Two years as a deck seaman working for the Boatswain's Mates, then struck Ship's Serviceman rate while my first ship, USS DEYO (DD989) was in the yards in Portland, Maine, being fitted with deck mounted Tomahawk missile launchers (although DEYO did not officially change its designation, she went from being a Spruance class destroyer DD, to technically being a Spruance class guided missile destroyer, or DDG, with the addition of those Tomahawks).
Transferred to the USS AYLWIN (FF1081) a Knox class fast frigate that was originally a DE or Destroyer Escort until in was reclassified, for my last two years.
Was up for Petty Officer 3rd class when I left Deyo, but my paperwork never got to the Aylwin.
I got sideways with my new lieutenant early on the new boat and he made sure I never made 3rd class, never got recommended for advancement, or for reenlistment.😒
But I knew you were Navy before you said dress blues and CPO because I'm pretty sure only Navy boot camp had the term Hogan's goat for being fckd up.
Although we usually used it when a recruit was just fckd up in general, not just when going out drinking ("you're about as fckd up as Hogan's goat, recruit").

    I.... N....

@toddvandell85 Meridian, Mississippi. HA! Went to A School there, too. I've never been in so many fights in my life. I remember getting in scrum on base with some Gomer. We got picked up by Shore Patrol, cuffed, thrown in the back of a van and taken to see the Command Duty Officer. All the way there, we tried (unsuccessfully) to headbutt each other. They really should put padding on the inside of those SP vans.

  82. D.... ....

Remember Navy SEAL Lieutenant Michael Patrick Murphy.

    D.... ....

And all who died in Operation Red Wings.

    D.... ....

He was one brave man, to say the least. He will always be remembered

  83. p.... ....

Awe, you're the greatest, Mr. Red Rocker!!!  Just only if John McCaine blasted this tune throughout his '08 presidential campange, that commie Obama wouldn't be shitting all  over the American people today!!!

  84. a.... ....

    Hang on

  85. E.... J....

Hey Darrel Beehner, chuck you Farley, go backoff in you're own jackyard, you ain't so mucking futch, siss on you pister.

+Electric John That's old, but funny. Politics and music are like wives and mistresses ... best kept apart.

    E.... J....

+Electric John: Body count doesn't mean chit. And I am solely responsible for your thumbs up x2.

  86. S.... M....

All I can think about is PJO and HOO

    Luke died a hero,
    Bob died a hero,
    Many more died as heroes...

  87. H.... ....

A song co-written by Journey's Jonathan Cain and with background vocals from Loverboy's Mike Reno. What a threesome of talent! Cain would write Heart's 'Allies' around the same time.

    H.... ....

Yes, but Mike Reno didn't just sing backing vocals. He was lead vocal on the second and third verse. Sammy and Mike's voices are similar but you can hear the difference.

    H.... ....

I hear them changing leads through the whole song. Once you're looking for it, it is pretty apparent. I've listened to more Loverboy and Sammy Hagar than probably anybody should.

  88. D.... T....

remember the hero's bad as song

  89. A.... C....

Indeed, Past and present, and pray still for those future heroes, todays youth, tomorrows honored few.

  90. T.... K....

I mean no disrespect whatsoever to Sammy Hagar or US veterans, but am the only one who can't help but hear Europe's "Final Countdown" when listening to this song? I'm sure that Sammy would never intentionally rip off the work of fellow rockers, but I feel like he should have noticed the strong similarities between them when recording this song.

    T.... K....

+Dan Moore oops, sorry, didn't see the other response...ROCK ON!!!

    T.... K....

+Dan Moore this song is from 82, final countdown is from 87,thats 5 years

    T.... K....

+Tim Kirtland I only remember Final Countdown when I'm cooking a burrito. (sarcasm)

    T.... K....

I must have listened to Three Lock Box a thousand times before I ever heard of Europe.

    T.... K....

    Kevin Quaas for sure

  91. D.... G....

So it is political affiliation that makes or breaks a song, not the fact that it has a message?  Wow, must have missed that memo!

  92. E.... J....

American Heroes have the right to voice the opinions about politics. Sadly the GOP has some major problems, but its the DemocRats and the current Obozo administration that has turned on the American veterans. Remember who closed the memorial's? Barack Hussein. Who ruined the VA Hospitals and healthcare? Barack Hussein and his anti American supporter's. Who is taking veterans benefits and giving them to illegal aliens? Barack Hussein. Who is destroying constitutional ideals every chance he gets? Barack Hussein. Who is killing the country that veterans fought and died for? Barack Hussein.

    Please vote responsibly in 2016.

    E.... J....

+Douglas Holt I am too brother and one of the ones forgotten but not by the people by the government and VA who has found us insignificant and unimportant after we come home, it's a damn shame...😢

    E.... J....

political gop or dem. they suck right now, trumps going to destroy the great economic growth we are seeing now, with the tariffs

    E.... J....

zr24- agreed that both sides suck- however these tariffs are negotiating tools to get us back to fair trade. Of course the other countries don't like it as they got used to the U.S. always picking up the slack due to weak leaders who would do nothing about this issue. They are acting tough now, but they all need us, they know it,  Trump knows it,  and in the end it will work out for the best as he is utilizing the tariffs as leverage to get back to a level playing field.  Keep listening to the MSM.... Remember just a few months ago we were certainly going to war with NK because he was being too tough (now he's not being tough enough), they said Trump would never be president, and on, and on, and on.....

    E.... J....

Can't you spout your uninformed nonsense elsewhere

    E.... J....

    Tabitha- who and what nonsense?

Yes it is look it up

    G.... K....

@Seven Simerly It certainly is Mike Reno From lover boy with Sammy on this one!

    G.... K....

You are correct, he was a guest vocal on Three Lock Box. I apologize.

    G.... K....

@Seven Simerly thank you I know my music

    G.... K....

It was also with Jonathan Cain from Journey and The Baby's on keyboards!

  98. D.... G....

Thank you ALL veterans!!!  And thank you Sammy Hagar...MAY WE NEVER, EVER FORGET!

    D.... G....

Why not, he has. He is a GOP Republican and they only push forth anything regarding vets when the outcry of the public is much or when they are up for re election. Hagar has no right to sing this because to many of us, we know he does not mean it. Plus, he was talking mostly about the Vietnam Vets.

    D.... G....

@Dan Giles Don't worry about Shannon, she is lost.

    D.... G....

@Shannon Reynolds The GOP doesn't rule in Detroit, The Democrats do. And what happened in Detroit????? Baltimore???? Major poverty centers in the USA???? Hows the Demos war on poverty doing for you? Hmmmm?
