Hackett, Steve - Beasts In Our Time Lyrics
Earth sown with bluebells, under your feet
Doves falls asleep in the garden of beasts
Poison's in the mud of men
Hatching out once again
Twisted road, let the games begin
Fugitives bound on a wheel offire
Lucifer's lighthouse, flames for hire
Journeys of the dancing fool
Underneath the merciless moon
Gathering clouds, scream of the name
Break down the rock of the daily wail

Hackett, Steve Beasts In Our Time Comments
See you in september 27th in Utrecht, Steve! 🤪👍
the bloke can write a hella tune, what?
What a fantastic song ! I saw him play this in concert last night in Phoenix,Az...it was amazing,Steve was amazing ,his band and music were amazing! Steve gets better with age! I've been following him since I was a teen in the 1970's! I'm 64 this month!Today's music just doesn't have this emotion and feel!
That video just muddied up the song.
Fantastic cinematography.
One of the most humble, kind human beings you will ever meet.
Better than Daryl Stuermer!!!
Thank you for carrying this message on!
Nobody makes a cheesier or more embarrassing video than Steve Hackett. I don't mind his music, but his videos are cringe worthy. lol
Oh,meine Kindheit spiegelt sich in diesem Song !
What is it with Steve and chroma key? Why can't he just shoot in a forest or his house?
Я боюсь клоунов
Went to see the band in Helsinki 11.5.19. G R E A T concert. The sound was perfect. Pro musicians. Icing of the cake was - Selling England By The Pound. Been waiting for this since Genesis made their first lp. Selling England... is on my list of best records among three best.. Go and see the show end enjoy!
FACT: Hitler was NOT a Nationalist, he was a homicidal maniac who killed his own people. Nationalist don't kill their own people. Quite the contrary, Globalism is ripping Europe apart and destroying peoples entire cultures and way of life. These horrors are not an act of voluntary humanitarianism and compassion but an orchestrated agenda to ruthlessly force a population on another, raping it of character and value, labeling citizens racist if they don't like it. It going on all over the word, it been planned for a long time and its pure fucking EVIL.
Nationalism is necessary. What about Rotherham?
He looks wierd, like an old man having an orgasm, too much hair he needs to get it cut, old man with young man hair don't look right the music is creepy and all over the place and the vocal is unpleasant and very weak, i think there is a reason why prog went out and this is a good example genesis got it right letting him go.
HACKETT BRAIN
Awesome 😎
Great imagery and I’m glad to see Steve playing. The video is a nice and suspenseful, thrilling addition that is totally appropriate for any age. Bravo to all involved.
My favorite! Hello from Houston, Texas!
What a weird video.
génial Album merci Steve Hackett
Stephen Hackett is the best rock/acoustic/blues guitar player alive ! All his solo albums are excellent and diverse.
Crazy Final Fantasy final boss battle vibe
Who cares about the video there just promo's great musician great albums how much music do you miss by watching
FLOYDIAN SONG (JULIA DREAM...POLES APART...SHINE ON YOU CRAZY DIMONDS)
génial Album
I can't find anything wrong with the video. Not nice of course, but real. Life is not always nice & easy and this would not be the first time Steve's song have dark twists and phases. BTW, some have reacted personally thinking this could happen to a daughter of friend. Yes, it can happen, this awful things are real. Better watch out
I do not understand those disliking the video or claiming it is in extremely bad taste. I guess showing the thugs (beasts) in our time (human traffickers) and the message of the album and tune is "offensive" to the uber sensitive.
not all clowns are bad. example Emmett Kelley.
Poor tarantula... :'( ...one of the most harmless spiders...
Why'd he wait so long to start singing? He's got a lot of Greg Lake in that voice of his.
Having been a lifelong fan I have become very bored with Hackett's albums of late, no more for me.
Steve Smith on the contrary, I have found his recent music to be really great, inspired by recent travels and a sense of teasing out the history of those visited places (US included). It’s great to see him taking chances with music and expanding his compositional muscles. We can’t all live in 1978, tho many want to.
"Hey, let's get the most cringeworthy actors performing the most cringeworthy script, along with cringeworthy effects! Now we got a kickass video!"
CharliePoet still better than most crap on YouTube. I am a huge fan.
@Jillian Renee Well said Jillian, one of the best guitarists on the planet..
Oh Steve you are so naive. 🙄
Digger how so, oh wise one ?
Damn this is a creepy video.
The song is fine but damn, this may be the worst video I've ever seen. Poor green screen shots, arcade shots straight out of a bad infomercial, a very bland story being told, terrible visuals, terrible acting, uninspired lighting and what is up with the clowns and the spider? Lady posing as wife who looks like she should be his daughter wearing a $5 "War Is Over" shirt in a video of a political song? C'mon Steve. Sure, the budget may have been low but this is disgusting!
I know a great vid-producer
Sorry, but the video doesn't match the great quality of Steve's music
BRAVO Steve theman without recognition in Genesis that deserves most Bravos. Great song Long May You Live
low audio.

I am so grateful Steve brought to light the plight of young girls sold or kidnapped into sex slavery
What is going on with all these critics in the comment section? Steve, please don't change anything, this is awesome.
Agree :-)
JoolsGuitar whats the problem if one dislikes this vid? Just because you think its great, does not mean that everyone else is obligated to like. Fuck that.. the song and the vid is pure shit.
@thedadjob I am giving the thumbs up on your comment but only a partial ...lol. I agree with "Just because you think its great, does not mean that everyone else is obligated to like." and Ya, maybe the vid is a crapper but I wasn't even looking at it and I don't look most of the time. Just listening. I think it's quite a jam. Digging the music
I don't agree with the message at all, but a great piece nevertheless.
No Spiders were injured in the making of this video!
Fan ta stic !
Muy buena
Bit of a Dave Gilmore rip off not impressed seems to have bits of floyd and yes, not for me i'll buy the real thing.
A MCC what’s the real thing...? you know there *is* some Squire/Howe affectations throughout the recording, but I see them as positive and complimentary aspects ... YMMV
Good sound, traces of country music… Steve, your solo in guitar is beautiful. Try to make new music with intensity rock!
Got the new album yesterday, it sounded OK, great musicianship as usual but some of the same sounds again, like the "Middle Eastern orchestra" and the same guitar sound is wearing a bit thin for me. I'll persevere with it though!
Ged Hayes agreed ... sometimes derivative of earlier work, but keep listening ... I found the overall experience better than average ... plenty Proggy for me, a fan since 1973
...i głębokie ciarrrrrrry znów👂🎼🔊🎵🎶⏲😊👍👏👌✋👋🎷🎸🥁🎤🎻🎹🎶💟💗
As long as we're not mixing up our nationalism with our patriotism hey Steve? We need to keep in touch with our patriotism to defend ourselves or at least have something definable to defend against others jingoism !
Started well, and then out of nowhere, a saxophone. Bloody awful. Hate sax in prog stuff, it's out of place.
Pink Floyd, King Crimson....lol
Matt Podjeski agree, nice touch but perhaps an oboe next time?
A fan of Steve's since about 1978, love the song (shades of Ace of Wands on the guitar work), dislike the video narrative. I'd rather just see Steve playing (wheter in front of the sea or not.) He's turned himself into a really good vocalist over the years to back up his world-class guitar playing and songwriting, has our Steve.
Hackett criando músicas para filme de terror? Lixo. Bosta pura, nem se aproxima de seus momentos gloriosos, volte para blood of rooftops
Wow, that was intense! A significant step in Steve Hackett Music that's more towards King Crimson than the world of Genesis and Selling England by the Pound. Hackett can do either with ease. This is heavy, heady and far from lofty. It's seriously an intense listening experience. Congratulations, Mr. Hackett!
guzzialfa you will enjoy the rest of the recording then if you liked this ... recommended
More embarrassing than intense. It's just about the silliest video I've ever seen. lol
Steve`s first 5-6 albums(and then maybe To Watch The Storm and Wild Orchids) are some of my most precious albums. Albums after that, feels a bit like Riding The Colossus. Get it? ;) They sound a bit the same. I miss the wild and weird tunes. But that`s only my taste ;)
that's what I feel. exactly!
che puttanata di video
Does anyone else see the possibility of the man being a Nazi war criminal, whose life is now centered on his daughter/granddaughter and the horror that he would experience if someone else did to his family what he had done to others in his past under the Third Reich?
No, it is just the nightmare of a brexiteer who now finally does understand what kind of future he has provided for his children and grandchildren....
Very intriguing song and video which IMO, is about the evils of human trafficking and sexual slavery. It's a warning.
The song is beautiful, the video is needlessly creepy and graphic.
This is so pathetic. I am huge steve hackett fan, but this song and video are the lowest point of his career. Cured is masterpiece compared to this. Cured is bizarre album but at least he was experimenting...in short this video and song are showing everything what is wrong with modern prog. It has turned from art to cliche to appeal people and not to challenge them.
Gospod Marjna I think it is great he is still taking chances with his music
What on earth was that all about ?
Poor video, poor song.
Sorry, looks like a bad suntan....
Clowns keep getting a bad rep in the media!
Master! ! ! Thank you!
Steve, your political instincts show ignorance of both sides of issues. I love your music but this video spoils this great song for me.
You gonna explain or nah
I was a huge fan of Steve... this is so terrible.
Davi Routner one note does not define a career, be positive mate
Still better than Daryl Stuermer
Always better!
Regardless, Steurmer is a very good player. Try listening to his solo albums.
Which were total flops "Steppin Out" and many others failed. When Daryl does a solo tour at low turn out guitar stores he almost never plays his own solo, or Jean-Luc-Ponty stuff just Genesis material he didn't write Hmm wonder why?
fantastic song and nice video -the eagle reminds me "warchild" cover of jethro tull !
Great video and SONG!
I love Steve’s work but I hope he doesn’t continue to devulge into political themes..
Meh. Typical Hackett.
This sounds like a lovely song but I can't with the video. I'm getting old!
Your critisism is no good. This is pure art. I like the video, the music and its great I tell you all. Hackett knows how to bring back symfonic rock in its best!!
Political drivel... but good guitar :)
👏👏👏👏 Sir
Very good song it's a mix of the trick of a tail, epitaph (king crimson), and you here how Dave Murray like Steve's playing. Awesome job+video massage.
It sounds like a good old song in 2019
Who's the saxophonist?
Steve's bandmate Rob Townsend
low budget clowns 😓
pause at 2:22
Okay that was a disturbing video to go with the music, I wasn't sure where they were going with the story.
really getting into this new song. it has an amazing atmosphere, and love steve singing as always. i love the arrangement the horns, and his acoustic mix with electric PURE HACKETT BRILLIANCE ONCE AGAIN GREAT SOLO AS ALWAYS
That bloke in the video, is that his two daughters?
Is that the same girl as in Devin Townsend's Stormbending? Probably not. Or, is it?
Because of his tone and playing I wanted a LesPaul back in 1978> "Genesis". But it remained a dream for a schoolboy. Hahah..
The most consistent former member of Genesis, great work Mr.Hackett 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
don't forget Anthony Phillips ;)
Steve is undoubtedly an excellent musician and the sound of this song is good, but the idea of the video is extremely bad taste, worse still the end.
Carlos Cury I like the video. It’s different and shows the artist very well in a very appropriate way. The video is like a suspenseful short movie and it gives nice imagery for the song.
Nice...didn't expect the change up at 04:16. As usual, interesting guitar work from Steve.
You didn't expect the change? Personally I wasn't surprised. It seems to me much of his material these days is constructed in a similar way to this.
@The Curse of St. Custards Can't say I've heard a lot of his more recent, original stuff, to be honest. Squackett is the most recent thing I own. Were I more familiar with the newer material I might have been less surprised.
Didn't think they could make a worse video than the one for Behind the Smoke. Seems I was wrong.
A genius!
I have a daughter that age and this video made me really nervous. The song is awesome.
