Guy Clark - El Coyote Lyrics
In the town of Reynosa, there's a beautiful river
That shines in the Mexico sun.
There are boats and they cross from one side to the other,
At dusk when the hot day is done.
From there to Acuña to Del Rio, Texas,
With the pesos I've saved up for years then I'll trade
For the chance to send dollars back home.
Coyote, coyote, qué hiciste cabron?
Coyote, man what have you done?
You took all our money and left us to die
In the heat of the South Texas sun.
Coyote, qué hiciste cabron?
He steps out of the shadows, he won't look in my eyes
He says that he's smuggled a thousand good men
And he says that he's never been caught.
So with seventeen other, braceros like cattle
Packed in for that long final ride.
In the semi-truck crossing the border it's dark,
And it's hot as an oven inside.
Coyote, coyote, qué hiciste cabron?
Coyote, man what have you done?
You took all our money and left us to die
In the heat of the South Texas sun.
Coyote, qué hiciste cabron?
The braceros are asking in whispers,
Why the truck stopped in the heat of the day?
At first sign of trouble, he's left us all there
By the road and he's walking away.
Coyote, coyote, qué hiciste cabron?
Coyote, man what have you done?
You took all our money and left us to die
In the heat of the South Texas sun.
Coyote, qué hiciste cabron?
Coyote, qué hiciste cabron?

Has to be true story... Guy anly wrote what he knew... or saw one way or the other...
An old story telling tradition that probably didn't begin even with Homer. Need more of this kind of music.
For those that play/sing. Guy was a marvel. Simple, complex, gruff, eleagant. All on in one package. RIP Guy.
Coyote, qué hiciste cabron?
Loosely translated
"Coyote, Man what the fuck have you done ?"
Immense man
Rip Guy Clark
RIP Guy Clark.
Folks may not know, but this song is based on a true story:
"Trapped in scorching trailer -- 18 die / Immigrants abandoned at Texas truck stop"
B1gHagar I first heard this song on Guy’s 2013 album ‘My Favorite Picture of You’. The incident you describe in your post happened in 2018. More research would tell when and who actually wrote the song. Not trying to be a whiny bitch, just setting it straight. Not much room left ‘round here for alternative facts.
B1gHagar I apologize B1g Hagar, that was a totally separate incident that I was looking at. I stand corrected and God Bless the lost of the incident you described that happened in 1987. Sorry about that.
Very nice, Mr. Clark.
nice laid back song. fuck racist bastards. i like all females, heh
Send the old fart to Mexico.
If you're referring to Guy, you better find a good place to hide.
Take your self as far south or north just go
dude he wasn't even taking a stance in favor or against illegal immigration... he was just singing about the tragedy 18 souls dying because the coyote smugglers left them locked inside a trailer to die. You don't have to be pro illegal to sympathize with those people and recognize this was a terrible thing.
great song. Love you, man.
Thanks Music Fog, and thanks Guy. Simply the best songwriter on the planet.
+RickHempy Definitely one of them. I seriously do not think I could pick the best one. I mean, Townes Van Zandt is up there too.
What a great tune!
Greatness without a drop of arrogance.
A wonderful upload. Thank you.
