Gungor - You Lyrics
When I was born you were my breath
You warmed my skin against your breast
You were my food you were my light
You were my morning and my night
It's always only ever been
And then I met you on the wall
You were seventeen inches tall
A painted smile across your face
I prayed for heaven, prayed for grace
I gave my life when I was ten
I prayed in tongues was born again
It's always only ever been you
You were there
As the spiral pared the seams
And the brand new colors gleamed
I could only think of you
You were there
Every broken heart and tangled care
Jesus, Savior, Lord, and King
Oh my friend and everything
It was always only you
I saw the writing on the wall
You were a man and that was all
There was no God in heaven above
There was no perfect saving love
It was always only ever me
It was always only me
And then my world was torn apart
I felt a ground, I felt a heart
And all the universe was one
Just like a Father, Spirit, Son
My heart is open once again
A distant love, a forlorn friend
Maybe it's always ever been
You
If you are there
As the world unfolds its harsher fare
As the spiral pairs the seams
As the holy haunts my dreams
I will stay right here with you
You were there
Every broken heart and tangled care
Jesus, Teacher, Brahman Light
Son of God and Source of Life
And it's always only you

senhor Jesus eu amo essa música
Christian, then atheist, then Christian Buddhist?
Musical brilliance! The words and tune go perfectly together. When he gave his life it was calm and quiet. Not a pain in sight. But when he forgot about God it got really loud and not a pretty tune. Then when he came back to God, the music was quiet. Again I say... MUSICAL BRILLIANCE
Can’t get this song out of my head! 😂 literally I’ve tried!😂😂
The acoustic version is way better then this one
in my life (all 54 years of it so far) only so many tunes resonant with soul: This is one.
I just love this song and how it's built. It's the journey to God the way a lot of people who are born in a christian environment experience it. As a baby you don't know him, but you're dependent on him. As child you know of him, but it's more like some concept you're taught, you don't really get the magnitude and glory of it, hence he's just 17 inches tall and with a painted face, but you pray and look for him, you accept him and are born again. But then at some point, usually in teenage years a lot of people experience a kind of crisis, where they become unsure or even rejecting of God and what they've been taught (this is where the guitar solo comes in and fits perfectly). Yet later they often experience something that makes them realize God is there and has always been there. It's a lot like my experience and I bet it's the author's too.
I also like the metaphor about the wall and ground. I'm not sure I entirely get it, but the way I see it is: when you're a child the world is before you, you're feel like you're high on a wall and God is somewhere next to you, you're both high and important. When you're older you're not on the wall anymore, and when you're critical of God's existence, he's not a person next to you, he's not *up* on the wall, he's just a painting on the wall (an inanimate thing), on the same level as you. And when you realize he's real and has always been there, it says "I felt a ground", which could mean he found a strong ground to base his life on, or it could also be a continuation of the metaphor. You only feel the ground if you're lying or at least kneeling on it, not standing. It shows how he's fallen, he's humbled. He's not somewhere high or standing on his feet, he's on the ground.
That was a really good explanation
this album is simply amazing keep blazing a fire in the christian music realm!
kingdomroots it’s buddhist
