This is one of those Holy Spirit inspired songs that got me through one of the toughest times in my life. Why doesn't God remove evil you say? Just wait. He will.

It's very sad to Know they became atheist :( I know any of us is exempt only God can keept us in his ways. Praying for the Gungor family!

You are probably referring to the BuzzFeed video Lisa was in a few weeks ago. However, the video is a bit misleading. Michael and Lisa both embraced atheism for a while (Michael for a year, Lisa for a day). However, they have both came back to faith, though they still wrestle with what faith looks like.
And wrestling is not necessarily a bad thing. I don't know exactly where they stand and can't comment to that, but I've learned a lot about wrestling with God. It's messy, but one can grow closer to God that way than in perhaps any other. Jacob wrestled, so did Job and Jeremiah.

I lost a best friend awhile ago, me and him used to listen to this song all the time.. We ended it because of theological differences.. Stupid right? Love will always unify us and keep us together. And I come back to this song today in mourning, asking God to please be my strength.. I miss him dearly.

Faith comes through knowledge. Not your ordinary book knowledge, but knowledge through experiencing God and reading His Word. I'm a Christian and I doubt, even his existence. This song helps me to remember the things God has done for me in my life. The times where he revealed his presence to me and I felt him inside of me. There are no scientific explanations to those experiences I have gone through. It's purely the work of my Father.

Revelation is what we need, knowledge is just that but revelation is God's words alive in us. We have a soul and we have a spirit. Our soul is were our emotions resides, our thoughts our logic, but our spirit which starts living when we accept Jesus, that is were God speaks to us, were we receive revelation and God's peace. The more you feed your spirit the stronger it gets, but our natural self , our soul and body don't want our spirit to be alive, because we come from an earthly sinful natural. But God starts a process in us when we surrender to Him. It's long but it's worth it.

This song always brings me back home day and day again. Thank you Michael Gungor for this honest and unbelievably touching song. You and your wife are a godsend.

Weston, I want you to know as I read you comments my heart is breaking for your hurt, our God is a God of love! Yes he is a just God and sometimes that requires judgement against evil, but reading His entire word and not taking out little snippets will show He is patient and kind slow to anger and waiting for all to received eternal life his wish is none would perish.

You're choosing a belief that feels good to you. People all over the world choose some variation of a belief in a powerful protector. They do this out of fear of truth.

As long as you're choosing your beliefs based on how they make you feel, you're just chasing your own fantasies. An honest search for truth doesn't consider how comfortable a belief is. Courage is choosing the beliefs that are supported by evidence, especially when they are not comforting.

The more I interact with you, the more grateful I am to God for knowing Him (not ment to offend you). I am grateful to Him for saving me from myself. His tender love is the fuel for my existence. I would rather die than not have Him in my life and spirit. There is nothng better than Him...nothing. I thank God that I can see and hear the Truth! I am safe in Him. I know where I'm going once I die. You will face Him too, when the day comes Weston, whether you believe or no. I pray for you.

I hear evidence, I hear reason. Those are the markers leading to truth. And judgement is vital to determining whether something is worth listening to or not. If you don't use critical thinking to make judgements, you'll end up believing whatever people tell you.

Superstition, myth, fantasy are the distractions from truth. They lead you away from reality. They sound great, with eternal life, and redemption etc. But they aren't real.

I haven't made up my mind not to believe. If there were evidence or reason to believe, I would be a believer. Believing in something without evidence, that's just gullibility.

I'm glad you responded. I once hated the idea of knowing or believing in God too. With all the hurt in my life I couldn't understand about this God either. Let me tell you what I've learned: He (God) knows me more than I know myself. He knows my heart to the core. He knows my suffering and pain. And in spite of who I am, He loves me. He loves you too. I would like to clear something up for you(if I may)- Christians don't make that decision, no! God does. I hope you would find the time and interest to look deeper in to it. The Word of God (Bible) is very clear about these things. It talks about everything you can imagine...even about your hardened heart! that's what Jesus calls it.And if you don't want to believe it- He (Jesus) gave us freedom of choice.For your own eternal salvation, I hope you at least try to learn about it. I'll give an analogy, (Lets say I'm walking down this road, and I can't see the destination, but lets say its a road to Hell. As I walk down this road Jesus is off to the side of the road and he says, "Peter, your going the wrong way, and I reply, "I'm happy with this road, leave me alone" Then as I get farther along the Road Jesus gets closer and says,

Weston all of your sins Past Present and Future are covered by the Blood of Jesus. When the Bible says "God so loved the World that He gave his only Son" The World means everyone. Jesus died for everyone not just the "Christians" The reason people go to Hell is not because they are forced to go. It is because they choose to go.

I've never been hurt by someone claiming to be a christian. I do find it offensive that christians believe I deserve death and eternal torture if I don't follow their baseless, irrational superstition.

I don't possess the amount of hubris it takes to believe the creator of the universe is listening to my thoughts, and cares to answer my requests.

Weston I feel that God is trying to get your attention :) by that I mean even as you read this post I'm sure you have had some interesting encounters in your life. I could be wrong about this but I feel that you have someone in your life that confesses to be christian, yet has hurt you. I'm hoping I'm wrong on this, but if it is true. And since that time, I have Given my entire Life to Jesus. He not only showed me he was real, he has proven himself trustworthy. I give him my worries and problems and he comes thru for me time and time again. "Lord I pray for Weston right now that you show him your love, you pour out your heart to him. Reveal that you are True and Good, that you are pursuing him even now."

I agree to some extent. Before I was a Believer in Jesus I told everyone that I will not listen to MAN. Why should I change my life and follow a God because someone told me to. I would not expect you to Follow God/Jesus because of me, However what I propose is you find the evidence for yourself. I prayed to God (big guy in the sky) and I said, "God is this Jesus guy for real? because if he is then I want to know, if not then I don't want anything to do with him" And He proved himself Real to me.

When people promote blind belief over evidence and reason, it hurts us all. Evidence and reason have proven themselves to be the best methods we have for determining truth.

Blind religious belief is divisive, discriminatory, misogynistic, and anti-intellectual.

We need real answers, not hateful emotional appeals to ancient superstitions.
