Gungor - Late Have I Loved You Lyrics
Late have I loved you,
O Beauty so ancient,
so new.
late have I loved you
it was there that I searched for you
it was there that I searched for you
Late have I loved you,
O Beauty so ancient, so new.
you were here with me
but I was not with You
it was there that you found me
it was there that you found me
you broke through my deafness.
You flashed and you shone,
dispelled my blindness.
You breathed your fragrance on me
You breathed your fragrance on me
Late have I loved you
I drew in your breath
I keep on breathing
I've tasted I’ve seen
And now I want more
You breathed your fragrance on me
You breathed your fragrance on me
Late have I loved you

This is my grand mother's prayer to Saint Augustine...I love this
Morning Prayer -- St. Augustine -- Too late have I loved you
Too late have I loved you, O Beauty so ancient, O Beauty so new. Too late have I loved you! You were within me but I was outside myself, and there I sought you! In my weakness I ran after the beauty of the things you have made. You were with me, and I was not with you. The things you have made kept me from you - the things which would have no being unless they existed in you! You have called, you have cried, and you have pierced my deafness. You have radiated forth, you have shined out brightly, and you have dispelled my blindness. You have sent forth your fragrance, and I have breathed it in, and I long for you. I have tasted you, and I hunger and thirst for you. You have touched me, and I ardently desire your peace.
Confessions, X, 27, 38
Oh wow I had no idea these lyrics were from Confessions! So cool!
Happy Feast Day of St. Augustine! (the author of these lyrics)
I was googling Augustine's "Late have I loved You" (gonna use it in my sermon) - and lo, beauty found me! A masterful adaptation of a timeless prayerfrom the ancient and beautiful well of "Confessions" - Thank-you!
"All things work together for good" Romans 8: 28...Most people in the bible are The bible is a book of imperfection, in the people and the situations...yet God reveals his love for us though it. Job, Solomon, Samson...Jesus. It is a book of God's reconciliation with his children..."He has put a new song in my heart"..."Behold I make all things new".
Word for word...
OMG! que perfeição!
The art of the cover is a play off the reality that God makes beautiful things out of broken, dead people (you and I)
Wonderful
research red death then come tell me you don't know the significance in the flower and i will tell you why it is there
OMGGGGGGGGG!!!!!! Tearsss
Okay, I'll check it out.
Listen to the forget and not slow down album.
You have a good point there.
I love how Gungor uses dissonance at the beginning with the piano, but then it resolves into a beautiful sounding chord. It may be just me, but I feel like that's meant to be there because it shows us that the 'dissonance' in our lives is meant to be there, but God resolves our dissonance and makes it beautiful! I just love this song!!
The thing is that Relient K is "becoming mainstream" because they can reach more people with God's love that way. People that would never step foot in a church.
This is based on a poem written by St. Augustine of Hippo expressing his longing for God. The whole song is St. Augustine's poem.
Maybe. But I feel like Relient K fell victim to becoming mainstream now. Or it just feels like they just don't put much work into their music any more. I listened to them through my middle school years.
simply amazing....
He means "too' late because he lost his time.... Dieu nous tend la main.... vaec tant d'amour et de patience....
What does he mean Late?
the skulls and other images in the actual flowers are bad things that God used to make good, beautiful things :)
this a christian band right? then why do they have skulls on the flowers??..just asking/
ienjoisk8 God makes beautiful things by using the most awful of things to turn for our good.
Ezekiel 37:1-14
Zero dislikes. Shaba.
<3 Late how I love you....
I love your songs. Just today I saw a video of you on pinterest and fell in love! <3
Im so glad I found out about them.
To SimplifyNulify; No Gungor is not a Mormon. He is a Christian very much. I know as he was worship leader at my church (Resurrection Life church in Grandville, MI) for many years. Youtube attaches that video to most any spiritual video page.
wow.............. :)
Michael Gungor is a Catholic...he just doesn't know it yet haha
Awesome song
this is such tender song, so great to be loved by God! "You called and you shouted and broke through my deafness... Your breathed your fragrance on me!"
That's so beautiful
@SimplifyNuliify no they're not :P the lead singer graduated from the same high school i attend (which is a christian school). and they had a concert at my youth group :) i see that add on almost every video too
Gungor's not Mormon, right? 'Cause like, every time I go to watch a Gungor video, an ad for a site about being Mormon comes on.
im so glad this video has no dislikes so far!!
@R0b0tkilla being a republican doesn't mean you have to agree with every republican ideology.. like perhaps *ahem the giving one... and on a second thought, Zhejay never said republicans are better christians... all he said was "regressive taxes are greater than proportional taxes" ...nothing in there about christianity and the like.
@R0b0tkilla
Like this any other type of political party/government does?
:)
@liljenjen222 I agree. ;)
@R0b0tkilla How the hell did you make sense of my comment? I simply said the first thing I learned in my Econ. book. /facepalm
@zhejay You really need to listen to Gungor's song "God is not a white man" being a republican doesn't mean your a better Christian.Iit means your economic ideologies do not match up with the giving spirit of Christ.
they remind me of relient k =]
Awesome song!
Regressive taxes > Proportional taxes
Amazing song!
