Griffin, Patty - Let Him Fly Lyrics
Ain't no talkin to this man
Ain't no pretty other side
Ain't no way to understand the stupid words of pride
It would take an acrobat, and I already tried all that so
I'm gonna let him fly
The second hand just waved goodbye
You know the light has left his face
But you can't recall just where or why
So there was really nothing to it
I just went and cut right through it
I said I'm gonna let him fly
There's no mercy in a live wire
No rest at all in freedom
Of the choices we are given it's no choice at all
You touch before it moves away
But you must always know how long to stay and when to go
And there ain't no talkin to this man
He's been tryin to tell me so
It took awhile to understand the beauty of just letting go
Cause it would take an acrobat, I already tried all that
I'm gonna let him fly
I'm gonna let him fly
I'm gonna let him fly

Griffin, Patty Let Him Fly Comments
My fresh heartbreak brought me here. Used to listen to this a million years ago, in my 20’s and waitressing, before understanding I was doomed to always fall for the one who would want to leave...
Now 25 years later, I’m seeking solace in knowing I’ve changed but also, stayed the same. I’ve been hurt but not lost my optimistic, light, funny heart.
Music is my healer. She never lets me down and she doesn’t leave me where she finds me. Never forget the redemptive power of music.
Send me the song that has saved you...
Jessica Simpson did a cover for this and she dedicated it to Johnny Knoxville. Love is crazy. Wow. But such a beautiful song.
The appreciation of talent and beautiful music brought me here.
Been going thru a hard mental struggle, there are times when i want to blow my brains out and think I can start over. but is there really another start? I always find the strength to try and fight another day. pls pray for me
Hi. Let’s talk and play music together.
On Facebook as Sheri Linder Whorton message me.
When my daughter said "Can we listen to Billie Eillish " had to come here.
Please don't judge the quality of the music by what you can hear after two compressions on a YouTube soundtrack. Please buy the original audio CD or find the FLAC and play this on loudspeakers not through headphones and you will discover something amazing - a direct acoustic recording with a perfect stereo image centred. This is a great song a great singer and a great recording !
Delbert Bassett brought me here. Thanks Delbert for opening my eyes. This song helps so much
I'm surprised I like this music, but I doo !
The voice did remind me.
But damn... this song, this artist and my heartache..
I wish to happy some day. I so wish to feel good anymore.

Nick Yarris "Fear of 13" brought me here. bless your heart man
Always loved the Dixie Chicks version and I'm just now hearing this one. Both are so beautiful! I think I may be a new Patty Griffin fan.
The first version I heard was Jessica Simpsons and I thought it was her original
becky nash exactly! I though it was an original to Dixie chicks. Both versions are great!
Great Art (and music) improves upon closer inspection. Each time I listen her sing this I hear some new and beautiful expression. So many subtle nuances that the ear needs repeated listens to catch.
my moms friend knows her
I didn’t know patty griffin wrote this song. The first time I heard it was the Dixie chicks.
YOU REMIND ME OF A YOUNG ..BONNIE RAITT...SUCH A BEAUTIFUL VOICE...
I first though the almost forgotten Rickie Lee Jones! Great performance. - Sandy
Yes, except Bonnie sings in a lower register.
This is exquisite!!
I'm gonna let her fly.
Jessica Simpson covers this on one of her albums but is she the original singer?
Yes she is
@James Williams yeah and did you know the song was dedicated to Johnny Knoxville the dude she cheated on nick lachey with. Wow. All this time I thought the song was dedicated to Nick. But Jessica confirmed it was about johnny.
Never heard of this girl until I watched 'the haunting of hill house' her song stuck out so much, I had to look her up.
Yes me too ive been a huge fan sice ive watched that show and such a fan that i added her version of heavenly day to my 10yr vowel Renewal ceremony
This song hits hard at a home my children, the dog, and I came from. My second ex husband before I met him, had quit drinking a year ago. But after months into the relationship, he started drinking again. He pleaded for me to stay with him, even though when he was blacked out he would beat me. he was mean to my kids and the dog too. Once he started doing meth, I knew we had to get out or die. I checked this CD out at the library months before we left him. This song helped me to make the next step to get us out ! We are all doing much better. He passed away of an ulcer on his pancreas due to drinking.
Magenta Cooper i hope you are happy now. sometimes people just cannot kick their demons,; no matter how badly they wish to. i’m glad you got your babies, animals and yourself out of that situation. no one deserves that.
meth is a hell of a drug.
hugs to you~i’m glad you’ve rewritten the story to you life.
(i am sorry to hear what happened to him)
Magenta ~ hope you're doing better now, too. So sorry you found yourself in that situation, but proud of you for getting yourself, the kids and your dog out safely.
Condolences on his passing.
I know better things are coming your way.
Big hugs. Thinking of you. 🤗💞
Dixie Chicks have a great version too!
Documentário Netflix-Brasil aqui... voz incrível, amei a música 🎧🎶🎵🎼
❤️❤️❤️
It's such an amazing song... And she's an awesome artist.. Also check out Ronnie dunns cover...
Just like many the documentary " The Fear of 13" brought me here. Im just speechless. The way this man told his story, makes you feel like you jumped into a time machine and went back with him to see/hear it all. Not many writers/storytellers can do that. He could have achieved so much, but not is not always on your side unfortunately.
Same here the fear of 13 and joe rogan podcast unreal story that mind
So poeticly soulful
Guitar tuning anyone?
water drops on stone.
Growing up with parents that didn't have shit music taste brought me here
Patti is the purest of artists.
Fear of 13
Maddie Poppe from American Idols make me come here to hear this amazing song... because this is her 1st playlist music song.
Loved your concert last night
The choices we are given, it's no choice at all...
it brought me here to fear 13
Fear of 13 brought so many people here, so nice to know I'm not alone. What a great song... why haven't I heard it before??
I'm gonna let him fly.
can't get any more beautiful
How did I never hear this till today?? Where was I??
One of life's tragedies. Better late than never. I found her 17 years ago and still pissed it took me so long!!!
police siren at 1:09
The album was a demo tape recorded, I believe, in Griffin's apartment. The guitar was played by Adam Steinberg, who played guitar on the Dixie Chicks' cover as well. The siren was street noise that just happened to come through the closed window. When they sent the demo cassette to the record company (A&M), they hoped it would lead to a studio re-recording. But it was so good that A&M released the demo as is.
I've listened to this a number of times and heard it clearly for the first time on new (better) earphones. Thought it was outside lol.
Yup what sn ear!
@Claude Galinsky i like it because it a fitting prelude to the following stanza... the emergency of the situation.
@Claude Galinsky Great info, thanks. Thought I was hearing things till I came to these comments!!
Ya boo doo xx
The fear of 13 brought me here.
fear of 13 thank for the most beautiful song
Thanks Netflix and The Fear of 13 for turning me onto this song. I heard it on the VOICE too, but didn't get the emotion that I got from hearing Patty sing it!
I really wasn't going to say anything here because many people have made comments I agree with, but I'm very much in love with this song. I can as of recent relate to this, I just let someone go yesterday. every line signifies my pain, heartache but also the "beauty of letting go". I tried "acrobats" with this man, but all this time "there was no talking to this man" "he was trying to tell me so", so now it took a while but I'm gonna let him fly. sorry for so many quotes but it directly pointed to what I felt and knew in my heart, this song sealed my true reality.
Christina Mitchell ❤ I know it all too well
It's two years later, Christina. I hope time has healed that wound.
Same boat here.. needed to happen but hurts. thanks for sharing...I hope you are doing well now!! hugs

Nick Yarris brought me here, thanks man for your inspiration..
Yes Me To
Alison Porter brought me here too. Patty, this may be your song but Alison blew you away with her cover.
why would you bother to post this? just like you said, this is her song.
I don't have any intention to reply until i saw your comment. Girl, if you have nothing good to say. Learn to keep it. Imagine someone told you the same. how would you feel?
your insane the cover was great but it doesnt even touch this version.
Alisan porter brought me here as well....
beautiful song
I thought this was the Dixie Chiks? or is this the cover?
@bobbie smith Jessica covered it in 2006, Dixie Chicks covered it in 1999 and Patty Griffin wrote it in 1996.
No disrespect but the Dixie version has more soul/pain in it.
@Casey Walker Well , in my opinion Patty is letting someone go and feeling relief, while the Dixies are suffering with it. Guess this is just their interpretation of the situation.
I feel more soul on Patty's voice , but love both versions .
@flydiegofly almost 100% of the time I go with the original because how can you duplicate the same emotions as the writer/singer. So we are on the same page my only opposition to that point would be... SONG FOR YOU by DONNY HATHAWAY instead of LEON RUSSELL or JEFF BUCKLEY HALO vs anyone LOL there are quite a few examples of remakes being better. I think the heartbreak one's are much easier to cover because the universal nature of the material.
@flydiegofly "suffering with it" I like that. I was suffering when I heard Chicks version and it soooo resonated with me. Maybe why this original doesn't give me the feels...but if she wrote it, she def gets it.
Alisan Porter brought me here.
Me Too..... Love her and didn't know this song before she did it...........
+Tube of Tubes same
Should listen to the Dixie Chicks version.. is when I first heard it, and never forgotten it, years later. :)
Love the dixie chicks version! But Patty Griffin is the original. Both are so good!
It took awhile to understand the beauty of just letting go....
Best line

Interesting Documentary

Me too!
Ah yes, the bittersweet yet endearing song about the sacrifices a woman gives to her man as she asks for him to come up to her bedroom upstairs with promises of one last passionate moment of bliss for old times' sakes before she lets him go with a forceful yet precise shove to her man down the stairs as she hums "I'm gonna let him fly."
break up sex?
+Foilsdown nice original hentai bullshit picture.
@voltagebinary thank you bro, im so glad you approve
"There's no mercy in a live wire, no rest at all in freedom. Of the choices we are given it, there's no choice at all. The proof is in the fire you touch before it moves away... but you must always know how long to stay and when to go..."
