Griffin, Patty - Crying Over Lyrics

Light it up, baby, light up that fire
I don't know what's gonna save me from the cold now
And these sorrows I'm crying over
And these sorrows I'm crying over

Embrace me, embrace me with your kind love
It's all I've ever wanted, all I've ever dreamed of
And all of this dreaming of silver and gold
Is something to break this winter so cold
And these sorrows I'm crying over
And these sorrows I'm crying over

We go straight for the thunder, straight for the rain
Love leaves a mark and love leaves a strain
Back in the saddle again and again
Millions of eyes and none of them friends

You better light it up, baby, you better light up that fire
Cause I don't know what's gonna save me from the cold now
From these sorrows I'm crying over
From these sorrows I'm crying over
From these sorrows I'm crying over
Crying over

There are few voices in music that silence a room. Patty is one of those. There are several artists who I've found can invoke emotion in me, but in my 56 years, I've never found one that so instantly cuts me to the core like Patty. She can make you feel the meaning of a song like no one else. I have a feeling the world will never fully appreciate the power of her writing and her voice until she is gone. She is one of the true greats.

  3. N.... B....

Maybe not the greatest voice but definitely one of the most moving.

  4. A.... H....

This is a beautiful song 🇮🇪

  5. T.... ....

One of our very best singer/songwriters. She is from a tiny town in Maine that I lived 20 miles or so from (though I am a lot older). One never knows where such talent can spring from. Truly a favorite!

  6. N.... L....

I believe Patty Griffin is one of the best singers and songwriters we have ever had the privilege to hear. She moves my heart like no other singer. She just has a way to move me in ways others can't. Keep up your wonderful singing Patty.

  7. T.... D....

My daughter introduced me to Patty's music a while back. She knows I love the heavy-hearted songs. Patty fits that bill

My wife died a couple of years back. Within a year after coming home after Afghanistan. i lost my sweetie. It was then when I found Patty Griffin. Her music has touched my soul in an unspeakable way.

    R.... S....

I'm so sorry to hear of your loss.  Seems like Patty Griffin helps a lot of us through our most difficult times.

    R.... S....

She is amazing. Bless you. 💜

    R.... S....

That's why I'm here....grieving the loss of my soul mate to suicide. The pain is unbearable but listening to Patty soothes the burn like aloe vera. At least we have the music.

Patty elaborates on the Buddha's first noble truth: Life is Dukkha. This Dukkha I'm crying over.

  19. S.... H....

    Better and better...

  20. C.... B....

    None of them are friends

  21. C.... B....

  22. C.... B....

    love is a market.

  23. C.... B....

Just love her.. She actually sings about human emotion. Her voice is awsome. God Bless. Start that Fire isn't actually a real fire. Anyways well written and expressed.

    C.... B....

I can't believe I only just recently discovered her. I am a musician myself, (keyboards) & a huge music lover. I love all musical genres & I'm really into country/folk music, & singer/songwriters. I just really can't believe I've never come across her before. Better late than never. I'm a bit disappointed she's not considerably more popular. She should have millions of views, not 1,000s.

  24. T.... S....

    my souls music

  25. o.... ....

  26. m.... j....

  27. J.... P....

she's absolutely unbelievable when she's at her best...like she is here...i think god saw what we all needed and sent this girl on a rescue mission to relight our fires of faith and hope. I hope life is as good to her as she has been to us,

    J.... P....

+James Pringle Well said and I second that!

    J.... P....

+James Pringle Ya Took the words straight out of my mouth, this wonderful woman saves lives!!

    J.... P....

I'm going through a rough patch with my man and as a singer, I gain no more solace than by singing a Patty song.  She's been in my head for 15 years, whenever I needed her, right there.  The personal connection we feel to her soul through her lyrics, surely shows us we are all connected.

+Tessa C Taylor i've known many singers and am a big fan of coffee house music where the talent is so extraordinary and mostly unknown. The sacrifices these artists make, makes a healthy and happy relationship with children an extreme rarity. It seems they live to serve those of us who do have relationships and families. This is a very sad thing considering the fact that they have so much to give to their would be children and mates. Traveling around is lonely and being hit on because people fall in love with an image and not a person is a recipe for hurt. I wish i had a good answer. I am currently creating a multi-media encyclopedia of this kind of music, lyrics with chords, cd and dvd performance sequenced to go along with the texts. Nothing like this exists. To many young folks never hear anything but the corporate offerings,...which is very sad. I grew up during the seventies and lived in communal houses with university kids from the boston-cambridge area. There were other such houses around and we would get together and have spiritual/meditation brand discourses with music included. These kids were out doing good deeds in various groups, and we were so like minded, and non orthodox. When we would sing as a group sometimes i was surprised that the building didn't fly away, and angels appear. My kids now in their thirties, and my grandchildren in their teens have nothing that resembles what we had, other than the coffee house circuit, which they love. Still it makes me sad, that what could have been culture wide never came to pass, except for a brief and beautiful 10 yr. period, which i hold in my heart as my greatest treasure. I wish you all the best. Your brother, from another mother Jim...Peace, Love, and Pro-Active Charity.

    Oh My Good God !!!!
I've listened to a few of her songs in the past but this is the first time it's hit me,
how sad, sensational and sorrowful her music is. But on the other hand so unbelievably uplifting. Truly A Gift From God. Xkx

  58. M.... Y....

This is the saddest song I ever heard in my life. What is this song about? I love this song and no other singer has sung any sad songs like this before. What a professional. I'm gonna listen to this forever all night long. It really brings tears in my eyes when I listen to it cause it sounds so familiar from a year ago.

  59. M.... F....

I felt drops of rain while lying here in pain like a cocoom of sorrows hoping to sprout wings then I heard weeping sounds like when the wind sings it was a voice pure and clear she said I've come to take you out of here and I saw that those drops of rain were her tears of sorrow dissolving my cocoon I awakened to tomorrow as she gathered me in her arms and flashed her mighty wings she breathed the way the wind sings her eyes were on fire as we flew higher and higher beyond sorrow beyond tomorrow

  60. e.... ....
