Griffin, Patty - Blue Sky Lyrics

The farther I come the farther I fall
Whatever I knew it was nothing at all
Nothing at all, just making me small
Smaller and smaller
I fall back

Sooner or later with a view from the ground
Chasing the race and the races run you down
Sooner or later with a view from the ground
And a tear in your eye
You say baby why can't we fly
Into the blue sky
High
Into the blue sky

Be my singing lesson
Be my song
When I tell you I'm falling
You tell me I'm strong
You say trees have grown tall
birds have flown high
Higher and higher
Goodbye goodbye goodbye
I'll fly over a rainbow
I'll be sun kissed
Sail around the planet Venus
And send a long letter
Way back home
That says all that I know
All that I know is the blue sky
High in the blue sky

The farther I come the farther I fall
Whatever I knew it was nothing at all
Trees have grown tall, birds have flown high
Higher and higher
Goodbye, goodbye, goodbye

No offense but Bethany Joy Galeotti sings this song too

Justin Kaomi-Mamakwa on today’s episode of “no one fucking cares“ we’ll talk to Justin who doesn’t realize the posting a stupid comment like that on the video showcasing the wonderful woman who wrote the song, performed the song first, and had a big hit with the song actually is

    J.... K....

No offense, but Patty Griffin wrote this song. Bethany Joy Galeotti simply covered it.

the band must never have heard her play...they are so loud they run all over her vocals the electric guit and drums are nuts....steady 5th or 7th capo stuff, and a simple steady bass drum would have let her vocals soar above their base...but hey they were heard and that's what's important right,...wrong

James Pringle OK first of all it was the 90s and Big loud guitars is exactly what Patty wanted. Have you ever listened to her fucking records from that period of time? Loud guitars, loud drums, her voice pushed in the back a little bit more so than what fans who catch on to her music now will hear. She’s transitioned into a little old lady with an acoustic guitar but at one point in time she was a mother fucking rock goddess and we worshiped her.

It must be one of my favorites, because I still play it all the time. Like, 4 times a week, at least. Such a great performance by all. Thanks.

  6. d.... ....

Love the crunchy guitar and drums on this..

    d.... ....

Love the layered intro into the blast of beautiful noise.

  7. m.... ....

One of the best choruses of all time! Love the way she sings this song.

  8. k.... ....

I purchased Flaming Red after hearing this song on the free CD that was distributed at a Lilith Fair show. I have been a Patty devotee ever since - she is such a great story teller and singer.

  13. j.... w....

@SHSUman she's been touring lately, and she is unbelievable live.

  14. X.... ....

Love the little jam at the end.

  15. M.... F....

The instrumentation is too loud, drowns out what her voice really has to offer.

  16. C.... L....

you are so right!, She's too much of a secret. How did you get to know her, through Kelly Clarkson? that's how I get to know about her :p

  17. i.... ....

    Yeah!
    Thank you.

  18. T.... G....

  19. M.... F....

    Couldn't love you more Patty...

  20. C.... ....

No but it so should have been. A great example of when the record companies have control of what THEY think should be released! Somebody dropped the ball @ Fontana A&M cause this is one of her best;)

  21. g.... ....

hmm...was this song ever released as a single?

  22. g.... ....

I was just looking for this song on youtube the day before...what a coincidence you happened to post it yesterday!

They used this song in a Delias clothing commercial back in the late 90s and I would always watch the commerical because of it. I actually think the commercial was bettered because of the song. Wondering if anyone has it on youtube
