Greg Graffin - Too Many Virtues Lyrics

Sometimes the moon and stars can catch you by surprise
There's just too many virtues in the night
The bitter chill blows through this board and batten pine
There's just too many virtues in the night

There's just too many virtues in this lonesome sorry heart
All loaded with pride
Then the old crow wanted in from the cold morning light

The glowing embers on the hearth are just a memory
Dead soldiers strewn about the floor
And all the good that came from faith, hope, and charity
I can't remember anymore

There's just too many virtues in this lonesome sorry heart
All loaded with pride
Then the old crow wanted in from the cold morning light

There's just too many virtues in this lonesome sorry heart
All loaded with pride
Then the old crow wanted in from the cold morning light
Then the old crow wanted in from the cold morning light

This here is my favorite solo track from GG, just barely beating out _Don't Be Afraid To Run_ and _Opinion_ from his previous solo records.

I'm continually blown away with just how much better this song keeps getting with time. I'd love to see a BR version.

I am blown away by the ability Graffin and BR have to evolve and renew themselves by digging in the past. At the same time they never deviate from their punk rock soul and messages. Also the country/rock tones "the Eagles" style, reminds me of my childhood (even though I was born in France and now live in the US, my sister and parents used to play them all the time), hitting me in the feels big time.

I was born in Montana, but have spent all my adult life in Spain. I love how the bands I listened to growing up have explored other areas. This is actually true for a lot of punk bands. Check out what Mike Ness from Social Distortion did on his solo albums; what Brian Fallon from The Gaslight Anthem has been doing (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rQRlbg-VAW4); what Chuck Ragan from Hot Water Music has been doing (this one is great: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XqleQj1Nmhk). And although less Americana, check out Dave Hause from The Loved Ones (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mh3-K3yAciY); Frank Turner from the Million Dead (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F1L5zJ2afLs); Matt Skiba from Alkaline Trio (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9_8RyBwEuKU&t=1319s#). It's crazy. I love it all. Here's a good one combining Brian Fallon and Chuck Ragan with an homage to Alkaline Trio at the end (Warbrain): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kMZ-jdPGPBc

  7. M.... M....

I got a peaceful, easy feeling...

Hard-to-believe this has direct Bad Religion connections! This would NOT Be out-of-place on a Gordon Lightfoot LP from the 70s!

This album is full of gems. Each song is epic. I haven't listened to anything else since its release.

  10. W.... ....

easily a BR song with distorted guitars and fast drums, example in the same style of "sorrow" and you'll have a great BR melody here.

...and there is nothing wrong about it. :)

any of these new songs could be bad-religionized.  look what br did for Christmas music.
