This song is even more impressive when you consider how young Billie Joe was when he wrote it. It's been so awesome growing up with Green Day's music and at the times when I can't think of anything to look forward to, I remind myself that there will be a new Green Day album in the near future! Been a big fan for 25+ years and I look forward to the next 25+!!

All My Best Friends Wear Turtlenecks Everytime we write a song, I try to make my bassline like it's one of Mike Dirnt's. He's just able to take simple chord progressions and make a really intricate and amazing bassline and it just perplexes me and I strive to be as good as him one day lol

Pet Raven Check out matt Freeman from rancid and operation ivy, who green day was inspired by and played on in the same scene. He writes intricate baselines that fit into simple guitar chords, and this song just screams his style. Check out "Roots radicals" or a cover to hear the bass better :)

"1039" includes the songs that were on "Slappy" and "1000 Hours"(At The Library-I Want To Be Alone), while "39/Smooth" only has At The Library-The Judge's Daughter. And I don't believe I asked a question.

@RainbowSnow101 i think your the dumbass. "39/Smooth" was their first album, which is only tracks 1-10 on "1039". Therefore, calling it "39/Smooth" for short would be wrong, as it only includes about half of "1039". The later tracks are from their next two EPs, "Slappy" and "1000 Hours". Later on, these were mixed together and that's where the name came from. The only shorter name for "1039/Smoothed Out Slappy Hours" is "1039".

It's funny this is one of the best Green Day songs ever and it's not even written by Billie even though every other Green Day song everybody's ever liked was written by him.
