Gray, Dobie - The "In" Crowd Lyrics

I'm in with the in crowd (Do-do-do)
I go where the in crowd goes (Do-do-do)
I'm in with the in crowd (Do-do-do)
And I know what the in crowd knows (Da-da-da-da)

Any time of the year, don't you hear? (Havin' a ball)
Dressin' fine, makin' time
We breeze up and down the street
We get respect from the people we meet
They make way day or night
They know the in crowd is out of sight

I'm in with the in crowd (Do-do-do)
I know every latest dance (Do-do-do)
When you're in with the in crowd (Do-do-do)
It's easy to find romance (Get down)

At a spot where the beat's really hot (Where we are bound)
If it's square, we ain't there
We make every minute count, yeah
Our share is always the biggest amount
Other guys imitate us
But the original's still the greatest

Yeah, yeah

Got our own way of walkin'
We got our own way of talkin', yeah

(Gonna have fun)
Anytime of the year, don't you hear? (Gonna have fun)
Spendin' cash, talkin' trash
Girl, I'll show you a real good time
Come on with me and leave your troubles behind
I don't care where you've been
You ain't been nowhere till you've been in

With the in crowd, yeah
Oh, with the in crowd (Yeah, yeah, yeah)
We got our own way of walkin', yeah (Yeah, yeah, yeah)
We got our own way of talkin' (Yeah, yeah, yeah)
In the in crowd

Gray, Dobie The "In" Crowd Comments
  1. S.... G....

Northern soul may be gone but years gone by when it comes to music forget all the so called singers that try to get a recording contract that's today but yesterday's music will still live on thanks to laptops phones tablets and smart televisions

  2. T.... P....

nice 60s song is ok by me.

  3. T.... P....

    this is a good song.

  4. J.... ....

Sad that the advert before the song features another single, white woman with two kids and no father in sight. A shame that the "progressive" left is promoting that lifestyle for young women.

    J.... ....

that may be the craziest thing I've heard today. Thanks for the laugh.

  5. M.... G....

Fun fact, this was initially released on Charger Records, whose parent label, Crusader Records, also released "Suspicion" by Terry Stafford.

  6. m.... p....

The Brits call this Northern Soul, in the States we call it Motown. ALL great! The song uses the Wall of Sound technique as well. 1966, I'm pretty sure; I was in high school. One of my fave songs from a time when we had dozens and dozens of them! Hiphop and rap? Can't say what I really think in polite company!

    R.... L....

That was not the case. We had Motown it had nothing to do with that. Motown was played all the time in the 60s this was the 70s. It originated in Northern Towns ergo Northern Soul. It comprised the discards of Motown the songs that didn't quite make it as big hits those that went to the cutting room floor. They actually made a double-length CD I have it. We were all over anything soul from the 60s onward including Ska, Rocksteady, and Reggae so you are not quite correct on that. There was if you like an underground soul movement up North but it did permeate London Id go to Church discos they hold them in old crypts they'd play soul, rocksteady, ska etc all through the early 70s. Motown had moved to LA by then this was like picking up the Detroit pieces not to say we did not have some classic 70s R&B too, Tams Detroit Emeralds.

During the British Invasion in the 1960's, some very cool American tunes were high on the charts. This was one of the best songs of that era. Big City sound, very cool.

  33. e.... ....

Loved this in High School back in the Bronx in1965  the first year at 16 I had money to spend and I did For some so true back in the day I felt it! "dressin' fine, makin time, we swagger up and down the street, we get respect from the people we meet they make way day or night, they know the In Crowd is out of sight, it's easy to find romance, have a spot where the beat's really hot, if it's square we ain't there, spendin' cash, talkin' trash, our share is always the biggest amount" We were on top forever or so we thought until the real world hit and hit hard For my northern English mates LOVE NORTHERN SOUL when I first saw it I thought it meant NY, Philly, Chicago, Detroit but soon saw it meant Manchester, Liverpool, Newcastle, Sheffield
