Grass Roots, The - House Of Stone Lyrics

You can build your house out of bricks
You can build your house out of stone
But as likely as you put it on the dirt, my friend
It's likely it'll fall on down

Well, you can build it high as a mountain
Well, you can build it thick as a wall
But as surely as you put it on the dirt, my friend
It's gonna fall, fall-fall-fall

Some men work on a railroad
And some men they work in a store
And some figured out a long time ago
They just will not work at all

This gloating leads me to glory
Despising leads me to home
Don't ask my woman where I'm going
I don't believe she knows I'm gone

Well, you can build it thick as a wall
But as surely as you put it on the dirt, my friend
    It's gonna fall, fall-fall-fall

This road ain’t leadin’ me to glory
This path ain’t leadin’ me on home
Don't ask my woman where I'm going
    I don't believe she knows I'm gone

Warren Entner, are you reading this? You sang it; remember the words? and yes, I absolutely agree this and other unheralded cuts on the "Let's Live For Today" album were among the Grass Roots' best efforts, back in their adventurous (pre-bubblegum music) days.

I would greatly appreciate it if someone out there would post the correct complete lyrics to this song.I know most of it but there are one or two parts I cannot figure out for the life of me. Thanks and all the best to all of you! - Sincerely, Lenny.

A classic rocker penned by Creed and sung by Warren!! One of their absolute best efforts!!

This is an absolutely phenomenal song written by the great Creed Bratton!! This, along with No Exit, were rather obsure and unheralded - however to true Grassroots fans are revered and treasured!!! They are superior to every band now in the R&R Hall Of Fame!!!
