Grass Roots, The - Hot Bright Lights Lyrics

(Da da da)
(Da da da da da da)
(Da da da)
(Da da da da da da)
(Da da da)
(Da da da da da da-da)
(Da da da da)

You think our life is groovy
Stick around and hear it like it is

(Hot bright lights) light in my eyes
(People know all about you) you don't really know me
(Must be alright) riding alone
(People chase all around you) but they don't run too fast

(They all know your name) it's all that you'd ever know
Anything you want you claim
(Anything you want you claim)

But I'd like to teach you, but I can't reach you
(He can't reach you)

When my face has faded, someone else has got to take my place

(Bum-bum-bah) bah-dah-dah-dum
(Bum bum bum bum bum bum)
Bum bum bum, bah dah bum bum
(Bum bum bum) bah-dah-dah-dum
(Bum bum bum bum bum bum)
Bum-bum-bum bah dah dah
(Bum bum bum) bah dah dah dah bah dum
(Bah bah bah bah bah bah bah)
Bah bah bah bah bah
Bah dah dum bah bah bah dah bum bum bum bum
(Bum bum bum bum)
When my face has faded, someone else has got to take my place

Which album is this on? Anybody???

    T.... J....

It's on "Feelings", which you may be able to buy on CD, and also "Golden Grass" which is not available on CD.

calzone43 - I totally agree, a phenomenal tune!  That's Creed creating those stunning guitar riffs! Creed was a greatly underrated musician!!! - and he still plays a fine guitar!!

Unfortunately, the picture chosen for this video doesn't have Creed Bratton in it! It shows the band after he'd left!

    M.... ....

Of course that's true - Unfortunately, when Creed was replaced by Dennis Provisor the once great group began to steadily go downhill and continued on their downward spiral with subsequent lineup changes as their music bore little to no resemblance to what it once was.Creative differences split the band as Creed maintained that they should continue turning out material in the same vein but was over ruled. They should have listened to Creed but, much to my dismay, that did not happen. I once knew Warren and Rick - who were my favorite band members!! Naturally I also loved Creed and Rob!! Dennis and all subsequent players I have little regard for as I equate, fairly or not, them with the groups downfall - The Grassroots best work were the albums - LET'S LIVE FOR TODAY, FEELINGS, AND LOVING THINGS!! Leaving it all behind was a good not great album except for Provisors solos. All the rest of their albums were terrible for the most part.Dennis was very talented but his style didn't fit how I envisioned the real GRASSROOTS!!! They became lightweights with a bubblegum style. The Grassroots I loved were, in my estimation, one of the top three rock and roll bands in music history - American or British!!

    Which one i s Creed?....on the cover....

    M.... ....

@Tim Jahner The "More Golden Grass" cover shows their 1970 lineup: left to right Dennis Provisor, Rick Coonce, Rob Grill and Warren Entner. This song is from their 1968 album "Feelings".

My favorite Grass Roots song. I was about 12 or 13 when I first heard it and was mesmerized by the psychedelic guitar part. When I heard those guitar riffs I could see the lights. And that was before it all kicked in. LOL

I agree. My big sisters had the record, and I was 5 or 6. (Now it's mine!) I still view this piece as every bit as sexy as Led Zeppelin's "D'yer Maker". How lucky we were to grow up with this stuff!

It's my favorite, too. Believe it or not, one of the many cover bands in Olongapo (Philippines) 1968-69 played this song. They were the only ones I heard play it there...The Blue Science at D'Wave Club. https://www.flickr.com/photos/edgarjlaw/830428062/
