Grass Roots, The - Feelings Lyrics

I have known you all my life
Girl it seems to me
That you will always be
Very close to me, close to me
Very close to me now
No need to tell you now
That a time like this
My feelings can't be helped
That's the way it is, way it is ah
Ah that's the way it is now

I've never known till now, the feelings I've had inside
The feelings you never known
The feelings you never found
Na na na na naaa na
Na na na na naaa na
Na na na na naaa na

I will live for a long time
And then you'll see
Just how sad a man can be
Oh girl, can't you see?
That it's me, can't you see it's me now

I've never known till now, the feelings I've had inside
The feelings you never found
Na na na na naaa na
Na na na na naaa na
Na na na na naaa na

    hey thanks!!!!!! :)

    E.... C....

    Me too.

  21. J.... S....

This should have been a number one song. Fantastic vocal arrangement. Robs voice was so smooth and sexy.

    J.... S....

Jeanne Sumstine Totally agree, SO DEEP, so intense! Makes me shiver! 😉👍💖💕

  22. C.... P....

The Grassroots were so good and Love the song Feelings ! They were so underrated. Hope they got in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame!

  23. J.... S....

    Absolutely love this song

  24. D.... M....

    Another great song of grassroots

  25. p.... t....

Magnificent A+ Masterpiece, music at it's very best

  26. m.... s....

Steal that bit from Under My Thumb much? Whoa!

    m.... s....

Considering most hip-hop artists these days shamelessly write whole songs around whole parts of other songs, this is hardly a major offense. Frankly, apart from the first half of the marimba riff, it still sounds pretty different... and I would consider this a much more interesting song than "Under My Thumb."

    m.... s....

ComeOnIsSuchAJoy. I totally agree with you on all points!!!!!

  27. g.... ....

always loved this song.  Just heard a live recording that is stunning.  The upbeat guitar instead of the hand clapping here gives it so much more.  A really different sound.   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f_jPlEOXpeg&t=1837s

  28. M.... X....

Brilliant record why wasn't it a hit

    M.... X....

Martin X My favorite!! Should have been one of the biggest hits, real deep! 👍🏻👍🏻👌🏻

    M.... X....

Martin X this should have been a huge hit for them!!!! That was an epic fail on their record company's part!!!! Very unfortunate for the guys.

    M.... X....

Have this album and loved it back then, love it more now. Should have been one of their biggest hits!

    M.... X....

    Right???

  29. D.... L....

    a psychedelic gem.

  30. B.... B....

    Straight off Dad's 8-track!

  31. J.... R....

Wow .. define 1968... I guess this does.

    J.... R....

    It did for me.

  32. M.... B....

With 6 you get egg roll, brought me hear. I didn't know the title of this song, I only know The Grassroots, played this song. It's hard for me to believe this was not a hit. They seem to be so unappreciated, why?!? Love their music and I remember hearing their music when I was a young girl and just realizing now, that they've had so many hits.

    M.... B....

This song wasn't played on the radio, but many of their other songs played all summer long, as I recall. This is my favorite, so glad it's here!

    M.... B....

Note: Probably too risque for radio in 1968. Surprised to find it in the movie, It set a good mood for the action/interplay of characters. Way to be courageous in a Doris Day film!

  33. A.... J....

I saw them perform this song and a few from the album at the Catacombs in Houston. It was the first big named group I had seen. They put on a good show. It was a shame the song nor album charted. I saw that 2 members of this group have passed on.

  34. p.... t....

great music & memories, one of the best groups of all time, phenomenal sound

  35. T.... d....

I would have loved being a teenager in the late sixties but I was born in '65

  36. G.... ....

I had the cutest girlfriend in 1967 and she really liked this song. I always thought the Grassroots were under-appreciated.

  37. l.... ....

I just got the Feelings album on open reel. It's brilliant from start to finish. Unfortunately it bombed horrifically. Despite the Grass Roots being considered a singles band, their albums were usually pretty strong.

    l.... ....

    lotemo I agree with you

  38. r.... A....

early rock, wish someone would do a metal version!

    r.... A....

rock - Not me - that would totally ruin this fabulous song!

  39. g.... ....

oh yeah. now this sounds like my old stereo used to.

  40. g.... ....

i had the grassroots album Golden Grass the Grass Roots LP.  This song is so surreal.  A deep meditative emotional experience

  41. m.... r....

I think I heard this song on one of those late sixties psychedelic movies

    m.... r....

It was in "With Six You Get Eggroll".

    m.... r....

Yes. I remembered at looked it up on the wikipedia. Thanks.

  42. m.... b....

    very nice !
the background sounds like : stones - under my thumb

    m.... b....

+moby boy Ha ha yup. Heard the Rubble series? Got the box set. Under led to the song Gimme Shelter. Check the arrangement.

  43. T.... P....

Wrecking Crew do not play on this. .......this is the Grass Roots playing a great song that stupid Dunhill did not promote should have been huge hit

    T.... P....

You've hit the nail right on the head, Thomas!

    T.... P....

MrGoldenthroat one of mty fav songs all time

  44. S.... A....

love this song and loved the movie too....

  45. T.... P....

How could am radio miss this song one of my top 5 songs of all time and I am 53 and the lp is great too Creed rocks glad they mentioned him in the last episode of the office

  46. R.... ....

This Professor requests that someone upload "Feelings" full album.....I remember it being my favorite Grassroot's LP.....Their peak album...........I have not heard it in decades. One great album !

  47. d.... j....

the marimba is being played by the wrecking crew's gene estes who played on good vibrations pet sounds and the smile sessions as well!!

    d.... j....

david - What you say is true however, on the whole, the wrecking crew had very little participation in the FEELINGS lp.

    d.... j....

    I knew Warren and Rick!

  48. b.... g....

    Original: The Grass Roots ( U.S. ) - Feelings ( Rick Coonce - Warren Entner - Kenny Fukumoto ) ( 1968 ). Cover: Los Belkings ( Perú ) - Sentimientos ( 1969 ).

  49. D.... K....

My absolute favorite GRASSROOTS song...heard it now 6/11/2014 first time since 1968 serving in Korea...check out at 2:17 the crazy Middle Eastern/Spanish guitar licks...never heard this before or since on any rock music cuts. LOVE IT! Grassroots was original name for LA band LOVE with Arthur Lee but he lost in court over the name he said so he decided to go positive and call it LOVE.

    D.... K....

Donald - check out some of Creeds other phenomenal guitar work on the songs No Exit and Hot Bright Lights - just to name two!! Many people do not realize that on The Feelings album - Rob, Warren, Rick, and Creed for the most part played their own instruments!! Their was a little outside help but not much! Read some of my other posts on other Grassroots songs! I had the pleasure of knowing Warren and Rick! I love them dearly as well as Rob and Creed! This was far and away their best line-up. When Creed left, over creative differences, the band went downhill a little at first and then plummeted on a rapid downward spiral! The aforementioned players are the only truly great members - the only ones I consider the true Grassroots!!

    D.... K....

    This is not entirely true!

    D.... K....

I missed Creed when he left but I thought Dennis Provisor did a great job on keyboards and singing.

  50. D.... W....

Had forgotten how much I like this song until I saw "With six you get eggroll."

  51. D.... R....

reminds me of "under my thumb"

  52. T.... ....

    Love this song.

  53. M.... E....

Sounds a lot like an Arthur Lee invention....but it wasn't. The Grass Roots were severely under-rated.

  54. b.... ....

    Excellent time.

  55. R.... ....

I too only had this album on 8 track since I usually listened to my music while cruisin' Van Nuys Blvd. on Wed. and weekend nites picking up chicks for kicks. This entire album was great; I think it was their peak LP. Roll up, fire up a fat one and pass it this way, brother!

  56. R.... D....

I have a Grass Roots Greatest Hits CD and it mystifies me why this song isn't on it.

    R.... D....

It wasn't a hit. It is a stunning FM radio song for the time, but AM is where the bubble gum pop hits were. Sad but that is the way it was

  57. D.... O....

Thanks for getting this song out there as more than background music for "With Six You Get Eggroll"

  58. N.... H....

@u2dvdbonofunny You forgot to put 'mazing' behind the 'A'

  59. 6.... ....

Superb! Almost sounds like the Stones Under My Thumb

  60. a.... ....

This song was featured in the Doris Day movie "With six you get eggroll.' Here is the scene:
    watch? v=Yw5GihK1aZ8 Pretty awesome!

  61. h.... u....

    Please pass the acid....ahhhh, thanks.

  62. P.... D....

Wow - I had completely forgotten about this song. I was born in '56 and still listen to 60's rock - especially the psychedelic stuff : 13th floor elevators, electric prunes, grassroots, ...

  63. m.... ....

@46razzledazzle the instrument is a marimba sort of a wooden xylophone

    m.... ....

Technically, they both have wood keys. The main difference between the two is that xylophones have a higher range, shorter tube resonators, are played with hard rubber mallets, and have a more brittle sound; marimbas have a lower range, longer tube resonators, are generally played with yarn mallets, and have a mellower sound.

  64. m.... ....

unfortunately, Rob has passed away today due to a stroke November 23rd 1943- july 11th 2011

  65. p.... ....

@meego1234 : I too was born in '66. The music of that era is definitely close to me. My theory is that there was so much inventiveness in the music, so many new sounds, and you can hear the originality and excitement in it; it's the foundation for everything that came afterward.

  66. 4.... ....

That's it, "Under My Thumb", thanks.

  67. 4.... ....

That xylophone in the background reminds me of another song. What is it? But this truly a lost gem by the Grassroots.

    4.... ....

You are thinking of Na na na hey hey kiss him goodbye by Steam. They have an under appreciated xylophone in there

    4.... ....

    It's a marimba, not a xylophone.

  68. T.... M....

    Awesome tune!

  69. c.... l....

    grass roots...rock my soul.....

  70. B.... ....

A truly extraordinary song. This really holds up well over the decades. I haven't heard it played in 30 years. It never makes it on to the playlist of the so-called "oldies" radio stations. It was the highlight of "With Six You Get Eggroll." Thanks for the posting.

  71. S.... P....

What a GREAT Year-1968. I was born & so was 'Night of the Living Dead' (george a. romero),....*smiling*

  72. Z.... ....

Best Grass Roots song. A hidden gem.

  73. l.... ....

I also love the movie as well!!!

  74. l.... ....

my favorite Grass Roots song too!!!!

  75. t.... ....

I agree! One of the all time great songs.

  76. L.... S....

Love this song. It reminds me of Under my thumb by Wayne Gibson/Rolling Stones.

  77. A.... R....

Eight tracks had such great fidelity, but you had to baby them so much. Thanks for putting this up!
