Kina, I don't know if you'll read this but I just want to let you know that this song means so much to me. I interpret it as a song about moving forward, but acknowledging an appreciating that the past is what makes you the person you are today.

I always make up a fanfiction about her and her best friend Maryanne being close and falling in love, but they one is straight and it couldn't work out. Etc, anyways kina of course ends up falling in love again with Jesse and live happily ever after but Maryanne was her past and her first love. Lol

Whenever I listen to this song it drives me up the wall not knowing the inspiration for it because I love it so much, but I always resort to imagining that this song is being sung from Jesse's perspective, about Kina. I imagine that Maryanne was the girl before Kina and that all three of them were friends, and took Kina out to dance all night etc, but Jesse realises that he is meant for Kina, and Maryanne understands. Oh god I love this song.

Hello, Kina.  Chances of you reading this are slim, but oh well.  My oldest brother recently passed away suddenly at the age of 42.  He was (is?  I still don't know the proper tense to use) incredibly awesome.   He was sorta a macho, tough guy type.  Surprisingly, he was a Kina Grannis fan?!   He shared your jelly bean video on Facebook a while back.  It took me by storm because he is (was?) more of an Iron Maiden, GNR, hair metal, thrasher fella.  Just wanted you to know, is all.  Your music impacts more people than you might know :)

@Chris Hinton You might be surprised to know, Kina is one of those rare artists that reads all her comments. She sincerely loves her fans. I want to offer you my own sincere condolences for the loss of your brother. He was my age and interestingly enough he seems to have listened to the same music. I didn't just listen to heavy metal but played it on guitar as well. I learned to appreciate good music but also good musicians. Through music we connect to people all around the world. I'm glad to hear a fellow metal-head found those qualities in Kina, like I did. :) May he rest in peace.
