Grand Funk Railroad - Dues Lyrics

I think I'm headed for a terrible accident.
Made more plans than anyone who ever paid their rent.
I'm not stupid and I might be havin' too much pride.
Surgeon general has determined that I may as well die.

Jesus are you watching or have you gone blind.
Evil souls are upon us and we're surely runnin' out of time.

[CHORUS]
I tried religion and some holy roller steals my tenth.
In the grave yard I ain't strong enough to jump the fence.
Some men they say they got more soul than both my shoes.
Makes me wonder can we ever stop payin' dues.

I might be workin' on a scene that I can never act.
Everybody's gonna think that my mind is cracked.
I don't care because it's my right to win or lose.
Makes me wonder can we ever stop payin' dues.

Crazy, am I crazy for wanting so much more.
My mind says I can't ever give up but I still can't be sure.

[CHORUS]

Can we ever stop payin' dues.
Can we ever stop payin' dues.
Can we ever stop payin' dues.

Mark Farner's guitar work on this song was just amazing. Doesn't get any better.

  2. רוברט ויינגר

Another great song from the masterpiece album born to die, don brewer sings as good as ever, mark farner could concentrate on his guitar playing so he delivers a guitar solo from hell, I have all the studio albums and live albums of the band but I always preferred that album, it is a serious effort of a band at their peak

  3. Perry Kalamaras

    YOU CANT BEAT FARNER!!!!

  4. RockinProfessor

Just WHO are the Faireys that 'thumbs downed' this ?

  5. Billy Torzsas

My question is why isn't this band in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. These guys belong there more than some of the other inductee's.

  22. Jeff Chandler

This is one of my favorite Grand Funk tunes. These dudes could really play and sing.

  23. Michael O'Brien

This album gets a bad rep. Allmusic says it's gloomy, so it sucks. Their other records were happy go-lucky. It's ridiculous to compare this to the first two or three records that were made by kids in their late teens/early twenties. This is an evolution. These kids have become men. They are different people with myriad new experiences. I think that's a beautiful thing. This is some of GFR's best work in my opinion.

    Rocky B

Shit Yeah, this is a great album. Gloomy??? well Born To Die has a Gloom feel but listen to what it's about. Dues is pretty heavy but uptempo in some way. I love Born To Die, there are 2 Duds or so but overall very damn strong.

I was in Hollywood by guitar center on Sunset Blvd. talking to a friend and I was saying I love G.F.R. as someone was walking by and they said loudly, guns and fucking roses, I laughed and said just as loud, Grand Funk Railroad and they are way better.
