Gram Parsons - A Song For You Lyrics

Oh, my land is like a wild goose
Wanders all around, everywhere
Trembles and it shakes 'til every tree is loose
It rolls the meadows, and it rolls the nails

So, take me down to your dance floor
I won't mind people when they stare
Paint a different color on your front door
And tomorrow, we will still be there

Jesus built a ship to sing a song to
It sails the river, and it sails the tide
Some of my friends don't know who they belong to
Some can't get a single thing to work inside

So, take me down to your dance floor
And I won't mind the people when they stare
Paint a different color on your front door
And tomorrow, we will still be there

I've loved you every day, and now I'm leaving
And I can see the sorrow in your eyes
I hope you know a lot more than you're believing
Just so the sun don't hurt you when you cry

Oh, take me down to your dance floor
I won't mind the people when they stare
Paint a different color on your front door
And tomorrow, we may still be there
And tomorrow, we may still be there

  3. J.... W....

    So much talent so wasted

  4. I.... T....

    Great song.....love Gram

  5. c.... g....

Parsons was/ is an angel who left too soon. So is Emmylou Harris. I can't translate to words what I feel when listening to their songs. It's something like an Epiphany ...

  6. M.... T....

One of several songs Gram wrote for Emmylou.

  7. T.... C....

Beautiful just Beautiful ❤️ I love All Things Gram

  8. K.... C....

The production & arrangement of this song is so beautifully sincere to me.

  9. R.... F....

Sorry Wild Horses ripped off and strange burial your with Jesus now Russ Fain

  10. A.... B....

    A funeral must play

  11. M.... D....

  12. C.... C....

Much respect to this man who belongs in the Country Hall Of Fame .

  13. F.... W....

Thank You Ken Burns for remembering Gram Parsons

  14. D.... L....

    RIP GRAM..

  15. R.... W....

Jon Henderson introduced me to GP in 1976. No other artist has ever had more of an effect on me than him.

  16. J.... F....

    Gram was a prince.

  17. V.... J....

Emmylou, the wings of this song... Gram draggin' his feet, couldn't get off the ground......

    V.... J....

You made me think about their collaboration. Emmylou did lift him up enough for him to complete his two masterpiece albums and a final tour. She sang with him and made him rehearse and cut down on the substances. Despite their closeness in age, she was at the beginning, and he was near the end. A sad but beautiful partnership.

  18. p.... r....

This is probably one of the best songs written by Gram Parsons. He and Emmylou together sound so beautiful. I always get teared up when I hear this song.

  19. p.... r....

I read that one of the Rolling Stone magazine critics wrote this was one of the saddest songs he ever heard. I have always thought it was a slightly sad song but it is definitely absolutely beautiful. This is one of his best songs. $1000 Wedding, Return of the Grievous Angel, and Sin City all have sadness but they are all beautiful songs. She is one of the best songs on the GP Album and most of his songs can be interpreted as sad but they have such beautiful qualities to them. Gram was very soft spoken and everything that happened to him deeply effected his music

  20. a.... h....

This song was on a really lovely playlist my boyfriend made a few years ago. We broke up shortly after I heard this song and in hindsight, I realized every song on the playlist my ex made was about love and loss, which broke my heart. When I hear this now, having had time to move on, I feel so thrilled to have gotten the chance to love him at all.

  21. G.... M....

Gram Parsons the legend, what a guy, just amazing. You'll always be with us my friend. x

  22. M.... B....

A huge influence on modern country music.

  23. p.... r....

Who are the people that disliked this song? Why would you watch a Gram Parsons video if you don't like Gram Parsons? This is one of his best songs and his voice sounds fantastic on this recording. He has Elvis Presley's band playing with him and they were awesome.

  24. p.... r....

No Gram Parsons No Emmylou Harris and no Bernie Leadon and no Eagles Gram Parsons and his six degrees of separation

  25. p.... r....

It's amazing how someone who never had a hit record became such a huge influential artist

  26. M.... P....

    fantastic !

  27. R.... T....

Gram had a special talent....but he could not handle the booze and drugs!!

  28. j.... l....

I have been a fan of Gram since "Sweetheart of the Rodeo." Emmylou & Gram sounded great together. This song is beautiful.

  29. G.... C....

    Gram parsons walk of death

  30. W.... E....

I used to play this on road trips with my children and there mother. This past year i lost my children in the worse way imaginable ... i hope i see you all soon. 🖤 love you everyday

  31. s.... h....

    So good.

  32. M.... S....

    Gram was deep.

  33. a.... s....

    The best

  34. S.... T....

    Blessings

  35. z.... ....

    This is so good.

  36. M.... ....

    I'm named after him

  37. p.... r....

By far one of the greatest Gram Parsons songs ever. Emmylou Harris voice is the perfect compliment to Gram's voice and the lyrics are absolutely beautiful to this song.

  38. A.... A....

it really sucks to see young kids get some fame and kill themselves with poor drug dissensions? he was amazing sound and spirit!

  39. O.... R....

Emmène moi sur la piste de danse et demain nous serons encore là...

  40. D.... F....

This is my favourite Gram song. Years ago I told my girlfriend this is a song for you - she said a song for me?

  41. p.... r....

If he had lived in just a few years he would have been part of the Outlaw Country movement with the likes of Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson, and Kris Kristofferson and Gram Parsons would absolutely have been a chart topping artist finally. He never got on the Country charts or the Rock charts but if he would have just held on for a few years he definitely would have finally got the recognition he so deserved. It's a shame that he died so tragically young but he lives on forever as a 26 year old in the prime of his life through his music. This is my favorite Gram Parsons song.

  42. A.... G....

Love this song and so many more great songs from Gram

  43. D.... ....

Written platonically for his sister, Avis.
    Your thoughts?

  44. M.... R....

If I had only song to take with me to a desert island, this would be the one.

  45. i.... k....

    Beautiful

  46. M.... L....

    The best

  47. K.... R....

GRAM May You Live On forever

  48. J.... L....

First time I ever listened to it. Love it

  49. G.... L....

How do so many people dislike this? U have to not have ears.

    G.... L....

    Agreed!

  50. t.... b....

There is no God. Or, is there? Well, if there is a heaven, Gram is there. Love you, man. Love you. And we all know that you deserved a writing credit for Wild Horses. Those bastards. Old friend of mine. Also gone. He wrote Bar Stools & Bus Stops. Indie crap novel that might've made Gram proud.

  51. D.... B....

    Just awe inspiration

  52. I.... k....

You can hear The Rolling Stones on that fiddle

  53. r.... t....

All of those below in comments have said more than I possibly could. But I loved Gram,..and Emmy.

  54. j.... A....

    Una belleza!

  55. g.... p....

a HUGE difference between the USA and the UK.

i just found out Gram Parsons still isn't a member of the american country hall of fame!?**

i adore american culture, i grew up on a diet of US movies, books and music and our british "special relationship" with the US is spoken of often and warmly by family and friends. mostly i agree .

but i have noticed one things that does separate us culturally is the way we treat/view artists who've spent their careers selling very few records and mostly existed outside the mainstream. in the UK critical and cultural stature is treated with real deference irrespective of cash generated, this means "obscure" artists like mark e smith(the fall) or iggy pop etc can become almost household names and appear on mainstream prime time tv and radio. eg - iggy pop has been a regular guest star on uk tv for years now and i believe has his own bbc radio show despite never having a "hit".

i believe our tradition of public broadcasting (bbc is a great example) and it's mission to educate and entertain have helped nurture this tendency

look we're not perfect but i'm sure we'd have found a way to show gram in a light befitting of someone of his importance and influence.

    anyway, lets discuss?

    ps - love you america!

    g.... p....

Agree with you, as an American I haven't even heard of some of these great artists up until recently (22 right now) and I have to do some serious digging to discover them. It's worth it though.

  56. R.... S....

In 1970 and '72, several friends of mine jumped in and we drove the Texas coast up and down. This song was playing over and over along with all those good sounds from that time period. We came home burnt from the August sun and hung over. I would sure love to get to do it again

  57. d.... d....

Prolific song writer,,,,sorry he left us too soon.....

  58. C.... S....

He was an incredible storyteller......beyond his years. Love you, Gram❤❤❤

  59. L.... B....

For some reason, this really brought a tear to my eye. Oh, such a beautiful song and a beautiful voice.

  60. J.... M....

    Typing this thru tears....

  61. e.... s....

Hola, tengo interés por la película de su muerte. Si alguien tiene un Link donde reproducirla subtitulada en español? me haría un gran favor ya que no logro encontrarla GRACIAS !

  62. t.... n....

    gram parsons is beautiful...

  63. P.... G....

Just got into this last weekend at my daughters birthday. It’s obvious he influenced the whole gamut of 70s rock. Intemperate voice and soul. I guess that’s the point but what’s certain is his rock solid composition. Scary.

  64. c.... g....

He wrote great songs, but his voice was weak.

    c.... g....

Fragile but beautiful. Perhaps damaged by those substances. A voice that reflected his life.

  65. P.... W....

    7TH HEAVEN

  66. D.... D....

Makes me weep, no wonder, such a tragic singer of a Beautiful song!!🙏🏻🎶🎸🎼

  67. H.... j....

    My fav by him

  68. l.... f....

    I miss you Travis S , goose

  69. V.... ....

This video has the most positive, and sweet hearted comments I have seen on the entire internet.

  70. J.... S....

The metaphors in this song are mind blowing. I wonder how many people really get it, or how many people just think it's a bunch of jumbled up words ?

    J.... S....

Julia S I don't understand the metaphors at all. Can you help? I'm not good at poetry.

    J.... S....

    I don't get them either!

  71. P.... ....

I'm glad this stupid fucking hillbilly overdosed on heroin like the retarded hick junkie that he is. Hopefully he's burning in hell where he belongs.

    P.... ....

Piccolo Well, Dude, you can’t die soon enough, or dead enough....You’re a no count, Ignorant fool who lives in granny’s basement....☑️☠️☑️

    P.... ....

Funny story, since you brought up basements, Gram Parsons used to keep his sister chained up in his basement so he could fuck her every night without the world hearing about it.

  72. m.... ....

Take me down to your dance floor.......I won't mind the people when they stare....."I am lucky to have lived when you could really your girlfriend close when you danced to a great song.

  73. R.... G....

The ultimate song Gram ever did. And that means very much.

  74. m.... b....

thanks for the guitar ..miss you Gram 💥

  75. V.... M....

  79. C.... B....

    Just beautiful.

  80. M.... ....

It is crazy being real and loving country back then you had to look a certain way. this is good country not lame commercial radio friendly music.

  81. C.... T....

How great is this, wow some of the best music I've heard in my 60 years on planet earth.

  82. P.... S....

Wow. This just blows you away every time.

  83. R.... P....

  84. M.... R....

    Gram was so special.... ENJOY!

  85. l.... f....

My love is like s wild goose! Goose , miss you

  86. C.... N....

Gram was like fresh air. He was a crossover artist of the likes we've never seen again. Emmy Lou, Chris Hillman, et al, can attest to this.

    C.... N....

Tear in every note. A true original. Way ahead of the times. He accomplished so much in the short time he was with us. I treasure him.

    C.... N....

Crossover doesn't begin to describe it. His vision of American music was unique, genius-level.

  87. N.... m....

This man not being know throughout the world of music as one of the all time greats is a crime

    N.... m....

He is known among musicians for sure.

    N.... m....

    I heard that my friend.

    N.... m....

I fail to see what is so good about him. He is not a good singer at all.

    N.... m....

@Brian Ezell And you are here why? It's the realness, the brokeness perhaps. His voice is angelic, almost transcending.

  88. S.... R....

What a waste. He had everything, looks, money, talent, but it wasn t enough. RIP Gram.

    S.... R....

    @ SweetAnnie
You speak of material 'things' and you're right, they are never enough when you live in emotional pain every single day of your life. You will find release, one way or another.

    S.... R....

agree, i know, it doesn t matter.

    S.... R....

Very talented yes but come on he wasn't a very good looking guy. But not that it mattered

    S.... R....

@razrrgwinny apparently a lot of ladies think differently

    S.... R....

@razrrgwinny women find him very attractive

  89. r.... ....

Gram good voice too tho. great together!

  90. r.... ....

    Emylou yum voice lady!

https://youtu.be/NE3SxWZ6hNc here is a lovely video of a gram and emmy song for you xxx

  93. K.... M....

It's literally impossible to describe how beautiful and moving I find this song.

    K.... M....

You should stay at the Joshua Tree Inn in his death room. I've stayed there and in the Emmy Lou Harris room. I slept like a baby in Gram's room. Next up is the Donovan Suite. Safe at home.

    K.... M....

Kelly Robertson My husband and I just stayed in Gram’s room for two nights a couple of weeks ago. It was a magical experience to feel that connection with Gram. Joshua Tree and the Inn were beautiful, it was 90 degrees and bright and sunny, a perfect trip.

  94. T.... K....

    Gram is the best!!!

  95. K.... H....

There's some good country rock out there, but the best of the best is Gram, followed very closely indeed by Mike Nesmith (First National Band era).

    K.... H....

    Kenneth Hall po

  96. d.... j....

One of my favs that he & Emmylou did! Did Gram write this song?

    d.... j....

Yes! Other people have written songs with the same name title tho. GP's one is not famous outside GP fans, altho it should be. So beautiful.

  97. b.... s....

i used to sing this with a good friend in 1976 or 77
    driving across canada
    singing is good for people
    good memories

    b.... s....

bumppo shepherd thank you for sharing. You gave me a beautiful gift stranger. Bless you

    b.... s....

bumppo shepherd Hola, tengo interés por la película de su muerte. Si alguien tiene un Link donde reproducirla subtitulada en español? me haría un gran favor ya que no logro encontrarla GRACIAS !

    b.... s....

Yes, yes it is. Singing is one of God's greatest and natural feel good gifts he's given us. There is a good reason why 100% of religions in the world with nearly no exception whatsoever all have a tradition of singing together, regardless of what language or God they may sing to, it liberates them and fills them with pure collective joy and rapture. I love to sing and wish it was required as a class in school (along with mandatory meditation classes) The world would be a much. much better place if so.

God Bless you my friend; beautiful stranger. Much love to you and your family. Thanks for your lovely words and that sweet memory. Thanks so much..

    b.... s....
