Graham Nash - Chicago Lyrics

So your brother's bound and gagged
And they've chained him to a chair
Won't you please come to Chicago just to sing?
In a land that's known as freedom
How can such a thing be fair?
Won't you please come to Chicago for the help that we can bring?

We can change the world
Rearrange the world
It's dying
To get better

Politicians, sit yourselves down
There's nothing for you here
Won't you please come to Chicago for a ride?
Don't ask Jack to help you
'Cause he'll turn the other ear
Won't you please come to Chicago or else join the other side?

(We can change) Yes, we can change the world
(Rearrange) Rearrange the world (It's dying)
If you believe in justice (It's dying)
And if you believe in freedom (It's dying)
Let a man live his own life (It's dying)
Rules and regulations, who needs them?
Open up the door

Somehow people must be free
I hope the day comes soon
Won't you please come to Chicago? Show your face
From the bottom of the ocean
To the mountains of the moon
Won't you please come to Chicago? No one else can take your place

(We can change) Yes, we can change the world
(Rearrange) Rearrange the world (It's dying)
If you believe in justice (It's dying)
And if you believe in freedom (It's dying)
Let a man live his own life, yeah (It's dying)
Rules and regulations, who needs them?
Open up the door

I was in a foster home my foster parents where teachers and part of a teacher's union. I was going to another school that has already dropped its dress code for men could grow the hair as long as they wanted. women could wear jeans or minie skirts or dresses. so I wrote it song for high school that did not allow students to grow their hair long. using this song my lead line was. so you're brother is kick out of school and made him cut his hair. won't you come to CJ just to see in a land of freedom how can this be fair
I went on with the song and told the students the song could be sung by the same music to this song Chicago. it was a long after that that I was kicked out of web City School in Missouri. my foster family found out that I wrote it I was one who gave it to the students and call junction. they told me teacher stand together. it was then I understood government school are not there to educate they are there to Brian wash students not to teach

I wonder how many people went to Chicago because of this song and then spent the next few years in Joliet?

    v.... s....

I have an American friend who was born and brought up in Chicago, same age as me (56) who is totally unaware of the situation as to why this song came about.

    v.... s....

He was only asking Crosby, Stills & Young to come, to help him with the protest.

    v.... s....

Why were they protesting anyway? Was it because of Robert Kennedy's assassination? Isn't that where this happened? Not so sure? Oh, yeah there was a black guy arrested and they did really chain him to a chair, each time he shouted back at them, they used Gitzmo-like techniques on him, nearly killing him, by militant torture. That was a very bad time in American history, a lot of violent assassinations of important civil rights activists such as Martin Luther King Jr. Both Kennedy's were assassinated, JFK, RFK. Marilyn Monroe's death was clearly as suspicious as well. The timing of it, particularly. She died about a year before JFK. Everyone knew she was having an affair with President Kennedy. Her death was told to the public as being a suicide, but, evidence that was found on the scene depicted otherwise, and a lot of it went untold by the press. Some believe she was killed and it was used as a cover-up. For instance, I know this sounds pretty gross, but thus carries a lot of weight, that Monroe had ingested barbituates which were administered to her anally via enema. Now unless you really know how to do this, or are a medical professional, this is such an invasive procedure, that there's no way that anybody could inflict it upon themselves and then die as a result of it. Enemas are hard to use even just for an occasional bout of constipation, thank God today, they have so many better and more healthier ways to treat chronic constipation. Don't mean to get off topic a bit here, there's been many books written over the last several decades by those closest to Marilyn Monroe who have confirmed such facts.

    v.... s....

They were protesting the Vietnam war during the Democratic National Convention in Chicago. The 1960s was an extremely traumatic decade.

If you have not seen the movie about the Chicago 8, then FIND IT and WATCH IT. You talk about civil rights stomped one?? This movie shows it FIRST hand by an aging judge. This asshole, you can't even FIND him on the internet! Bound and gagged was supposed to be a 'term' to have them shut up. They literally BOUND and GAGGED him in a court of law. It was hideous to watch.

    S.... C....

Oh, it's about the Chicago 8. That's true they did subdue the guy while he was sitting in the court room. But, unfortunately, it still was an early time in history for the civil rights movement. It took a lot to get civil rights won by anything other than a war at this time.
