Gov't Mule - John The Revelator Lyrics

Tell me who's that writin', John the Revelator
Tell me who's that writin', John the Revelator
Tell me who's that writin', John the Revelator
Wrote the book of the seven seals

Who's that writin' (John the Revelator)
Who's that writin' (John the Revelator)
Who's that writin' (John the Revelator)
He wrote the book of the seven seals

(O yes, tell me who's that writin') John the Revelator
(Tell me who's that writin') John the Revelator
(Tell me who's that writin') John the Revelator
Wrote the book of the seven seals

Look, God walked down the hill one day
Called Adam by his dame
And Adam wouldn't answer
'Cause he was naked and ashamed

(Tell me who's that writin') John the Revelator
(Tell me who's that writin') John the Revelator
(Tell me who's that writin') John the Revelator
Wrote the book of the seven seals

You know Christ (Christ) had twelve apostels (spirit willing)
Three he laid away (O but the flesh was weak)
He said watch me while I walked (Ooh)
While I go out and prey

Listen

Well Christ rose on Easter morning (Hallelujah)
Mary mother came down to see (the resurrection)
He said Go and tell my disciples (Ooh)
To meet me in Galilee

Yes

Who's that writin' (John the Revelator)
Who's that writin' (John the Revelator)
Who's that writin' (John the Revelator)
Wrote the book of the seven seals
He wrote the book of the seven seals (Ooh)
Yeah, yes he did

Tell me why I'm shouting (John the Revelator)
Tell me why I'm shouting (John the Revelator)
Tell me why I'm shouting (John the Revelator)
(Wrote the book of the seven seals)

Tell me what I'm shouting (John the Revelator)
Tell me what I'm shouting (John the Revelator)
Tell me what I'm shouting (John the Revelator)
(Wrote the book of the seven seals)

(The revelation of Jesus) You know I thought I was a policeman
(The revelation of Jesus) An officer of the law
(The revelation of Jesus) But then I had a revelation
(The revelation of Jesus) Because of what I saw
(The revelation of Jesus) The air was always so gloomy
(The revelation of Jesus) Every day was dull and grey
(The revelation of Jesus) But now I see very clearly
(The revelation of Jesus) O, o, o, o happy day
(The revelation of Jesus) Jesus
(Jesus) Jesus
(Jesus) Jesus
(Jesus) Jesus
(Jesus) Jesus
(Jesus) My God my God
(Jesus) Jesus
(Jesus) Jesus
(The revelation of Jesus) My my my my my my
(Jesus) My my my my
(Jesus) My my my my my my my my
(Jesus) My my my my my God
(Jesus) Yeah yeah
(Jesus) My my my my my God
(The revelation of Jesus) O...

I'm in love is it fucking jock

  24. D.... C....

I can't see what difference it makes... Who 'wrote' it... What it says, is what matters, and that it still matters enough for people to argue about! Warren Haynes is fine with me! I don't do religion but spiritual is universal... In my opinion. Just another generation... I'm just glad that we can still hear songs that originated... Where? That it is still around is enough for me and I can't think of a better person to sing it! Not that anything I think matters... Think I'll listen to The Mystic. Gov't Mule gives me way more goosebumps than Van Morrison! It sounds like a song that has been around as long as this one? I mean no disrespect to Van Morrison! I am 56 and heard the song, and liked it... But! These guys... Actually, I mean their guitars... Made me 'think' I "FELT" what it was about. Didn't think once of who wrote it, or even words... It is what you feel from it.

  25. R.... L....

    Amazing!!!!

  26. l.... ....

    Love this version.

  27. E.... G....

    fantastic rendition 😃

  28. B.... R....

Blind Willie was an amazing blues man. Died horribly and dirt poor while others made money off his name, what a sad loss to the blues world.

    B.... R....

Have you listened to Son House's version?

  29. k.... t....

    lovelovelove

  30. N.... D....

Outstanding version. But go back to Son House's seminal version.

  31. E.... ....

Sorry Tom Waits and Nick Cave, this is the best version after the original by BWJ.

  32. W.... ....

Nobody was worthy to open the book sealed with The 7 Seals. So John began to weep. Then God consoles John The Revelator that Jesus is worthy to open them. Scrolls were sealed with wax and stamped for the person important enough to read the message inside. (Julian Assange was not alive yet!)
    1. Deception (rides white horse)

    3. Famine (rides red horse)

  43. b.... ....

Actually contemporary Christian artist and stud guitarist, Phil Keaggy, wrote this song after visiting the Isle of Patmos

    b.... ....

    bigjimtaylor31

I dont think so pal. Its was recorded in 1930 for the first time by blind willie johnson. traditional black gospel song.

    b.... ....

    graftman You are so correct.

    b.... ....

Keaggy did indeed visit Patmos and wrote some of his own lyrics for this very old American Song first recorded by Blind Willie in 1930. However the song is much older than 1930. It comes to us from the Black Churches of the American South.

  44. r.... b....

  53. K.... F....

    Sons of Anarchy :O

  54. e.... p....

The Reverend Blind Willie Johnson (1897-1945) is the author of this wonderful song, not Son House, not Depeche Mode(please....), not Robt. Johnson, not Blind Willie McTell, not Warren Haynes.

    e.... p....

@eighta peach Does it really matter who wrote it?

    e.... p....

@eighta peach glad to see! somebody that know the truth! may the reverend be in peace! so many people use this song for different purposes than that what it was wrote for! God bless you!

    e.... p....

Right, who said otherwise? Actually I always thought it was Son House but it is nice to know the true author.

    e.... p....

    +mmcfee1, Uh ... yes?

  55. K.... A....

Man oh man! That was mesmerizing!

  56. p.... ....

  61. J.... M....

I have the DVD/CD set of this concert and it's simply amazing.

    J.... M....

@Jeff Madre What is the date of the concert? Many thanks in advance.

    J.... M....

May 3, 2003.  You can read about it here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Deepest_End,_Live_in_Concert

    J.... M....

I agree I wish all songs were on the DVD. What an amazing concert.

  62. M.... F....

Never forget that the roots of rock & roll is gospel music from the civil war era.

    M.... F....

Gospel and blues were very different. They do have a similar sound. But you can hear in many blues that the parents sis not want them to play blues keep playing gospel. BB King is one off the top of my head.

  63. R.... I....

Pretty sure he's using open tuning in this one. He usually doesn't do that with slide. Cool.

    R.... I....

right he usually plays slide in standard which is what I have always done because I only have 2 les pauls and my ESP and open tunings can be restrictive to me.

    R.... I....

    standard

  64. B.... D....

Bad, just bad.  Great group though.

  65. j.... ....

Depeche Mode is covering this.  it's by afaik, blind willie johnson, and who knows before that.

    j.... ....

No, It's a Blind Willie Johnson cover - and specifically, Son House who wrote the version that all the modern covers usually cover. It is a traditional gospel blues call and response song. It has been called "one of the most powerful songs in all of pre-war acoustic music ... [which] has been hugely influential to blues performers".

  66. C.... ....

    Good shit indeed.

  67. j.... ....

This guy is ringing the bell.....

  68. S.... ....

Thank you Rene for this amazing video. One of my favorite songs...{{;~}} Hats off to Gov't Mule. Keep Rocking

  69. k.... ....

when and where was this recorded?

    k.... ....

Saenger Theatre in New Orleans, May 3, 2003. Jazz  and Heritage Festival.
    They played from 10pm-3:50am!

    k.... ....

@melinda holland That's Awesome. Do you attend the J&H festival yearly?  Thanks for the reply?

  70. E.... W....

    Great song

  71. A.... ....

came here from Steve Vai's version, which is somewhat different. Both versions has mojo, I think. This is really great!

  72. C.... B....

    Fantastic version of this song!

  73. D.... ....

Warren really captures the spirits of Blind Willie Johnson & Son House. A "lowdown shaking chill". Indeed! Terrifically done, awesome...

  74. C.... K....

This Kicks ass. Flavor and Talent, pure love of music.

  75. T.... ....
