Gosdin, Vern - I Know The Way To You By Heart Lyrics

As a boy I believed it was best just to leave
With a shirt on my back and my heart on my sleeve
It was time I was out on my own
So I left you and I left home

And I've slept in some cars and I've slept in some bars
And I've spelt in the yard of some fast falling stars
But there ain't been one dream that's come true
Since I left home, since I left you

In the cold just one memory's warm
And in the dark just one light comes on
Though I'm lost there's one thing I found
I know the way to you, I know the way to you by heart

I know what I'm feeling for you is real
Like the palm of my hand on this old steering wheel
And I'm still on the road I've come down
But thanks to you I'm homeward bound

In the cold just one memory's warm
And in the dark just one light comes on
Though I'm lost there's one thing I found
I know the way to you, I know the way to you by heart

I know the way to you, I know the way to you, I know the way to you by heart
I know the way to you, I know the way to you, I know the way to you by heart
I know the way to you, I know the way to you, I know the way to you by heart
Yes, I know the way to you by heart

    I so wish that all
    the channels that
    give us these price
    less treasures to
    listen to would
    also provide in the descriptions
    the names of the
    songwriters who
created them. Even all the channels
    devoted to solely
    providing the lyrics
    neglect to provide
the authors, which is REALLY inexcusable. So
it's up to the channels who
    give us the videos
    to look at the info
    on the albums
    and 45rpm singles
    and give us the
    names. The lyrics
    writer appears first, followed by
    the composer of
    the music, un-
    less one person
    did both.
    This is the best
version I have heard of this song. What is so
    disappointing is
    that the gorgeous
    violins in the back
    ground can barely
be heard, and should have been
    employed straight
    through. And add-
ing an amped-up pedal steel guitar would have
    greatly enhanced the orchestration that
much more. Finally, one rarely hears castanets in a country record-
    and they sound
so great in this one, but you can
    hardly hear them!
    These recording compa-
    nies with modern
    technology could
    easily remedy this
    by overdubbing
violins and steel and louder castanets
    to recordings like
    this and remake
    them into tour
    de force master-
    pieces that would
    overwhelm us. I
    hope I live to see
    the day! Until then,
    this version still
    gets👍👏👍👏👍!

I sheepishly asked Goeorge Jones one night backstage at a travelling Opry Show who else he liked singing and he said Varn Gosdin "sounded serious". I always took that as a compliment for Vern.

  12. C.... G....

Listen closely and you can hear Vince Gill on tenor!!

WHAT??...This "lost" and "rarely heard anymore" lil' country gem only made it to #35 for Vern on the charts, and only spent 3 weeks total in the top 40????...WHAT AN INJUSTICE!!...Should've charted much, much higher in my humble opinion...thanks Jay, for posting and sharing yet another great one, as usual!...Take care!! :)

  23. S.... ....

God gave Vern to us for just a little while. He now sings in the Garden of The
Angels where everything lasts for eternity. He will be missed by many of us until we can see him again. Thanks Vern. R.I.P.

  24. D.... W....

Vern hit #35 in Billboard, 10-12-85. God bless! RIP, 'the voice'.

  25. A.... S....

This makes you realize how much God is involved in our lives, whether we see it or not. Country lost one of its greats with Verns passing.

  26. i.... ....

a great singer singing a story that is so true for a lot of us
