Gorillaz - Hallelujah Money Lyrics
Here is our tree
That primitively grows
And when you go to bed
Scarecrows from the far east
Come to eat
And I thought the best way to protect our tree
Is by building walls
Walls like unicorns
In full glory
And galore
And even stronger
Than the walls of Jericho
But glad then my friend
Out in the field we shall reap a better day
What we have always dreamt of having
It is love, that is the root of all evil
But not our tree
And thank you my friend
For trusting me
Hallelujah
(Hallelujah)
Hallelujah money
(Past the chemtrails)
Hallelujah money
(Hallelujah money)
Hallelujah money
(Hallelujah money)
Hmmm
Hallelujah money
(Hallelujah)
Hallelujah money
(Oooh)
How will we know?
When the morning comes
We are still human
How will we know?
How will we dream?
How will we love?
How will we know?
Don't worry, my friend
If this be the end, then so shall it be
Until we say so, nothing will move
Ah, don't worry
It's not against our morals
It's legally tender
Touch, my friend
While the whole world
And whole beasts of nations desire
Power
When the morning comes
We are still human
How will we know?
How will we dream?
How will we love?
How will we know?
(Hallelujah money)
Hallelujah money
(Past the chemtrails)
Hallelujah money
(Hallelujah money)
Hmmm
Hallelujah money
(Hallelujah money)
Hallelujah money
(Oooh)
Hallelujah money
Hallelujah money
Hallelujah
Hallelujah money!
[*Spongebob Squarepants cries*]

Gorillaz Hallelujah Money Comments
The end scared the shit out of me
Not really a fan of the song but lighting and visuals makes for a haunting music video
Not to mention much of the prophetic verses that some claimed were directed at Trump (or any other politician for that matter) don't even make a ton of sense anymore, after a few years that is.
If anything, it kind of highlights that each "side" in the political debate was and is still watching everything from a different screen, with each one telling a skewed story that is based on whatever the side wants to be hearing.
I literally just came for Spongebob. Carry on.
I honestly only came for SpongeBob
I don't like this song because of it's confusing melody.
But of course I'm not allowed to have that opinion because everyone here protects a song like it's their kid
complains about not being allowed to have an opinion while critizing others for their opinion. wow
This shit hits different at 1 am during exam week
Whenever I listened to this song, I always imagine a picture about these new protestant sect members quake when their pastor preach about the "Holy $pirit".
you know you're a real gorillaz stan when you champion this piece of shit tune
nah, it's the 4th best in the album, and a quality song
@Danochy It's a quality song so long as you look past the politically charged undertones, i guess.
@Luke Smith Hmm, what if I agree with said undertones?
@Danochy Depends if you only ever listen to news with one political slant then.
Still watching 2019, Let's all just take a moment to appreciate how timely this was on the night before trumps inauguration. The bassist Murdoc called it "a lightning bolt of truth in a black night" and that's exactly what it felt like
"Ahh, don't worry"
This song is already creepy, this makes it creepier
2019 e me perguntando porque essa música não teve a repercussão que merecia
I love how offputting the visuals are, but how well they fit it
Well yeah, the social climate at the time was offputting as can be come to think of it. Guess years later it stands as a reminder of how unsettling the change was for people, given it was blasted far out of proportion.
Wow just Wow!

WHY EVERY COMMENTS ARE TOO LONG?!
Yeah you hear this dumty trumpty
what a brilliant song
still waiting to move.
I wanna recreate this in a hotel elevator.
This mans cheekbones make him look like he's dead💀😂
0:26 "when you go to bed, scarecrows from the far east come to yeet''
truer words have never been spoken
releasethekraken it’s “come to eat”
Two years ago did feel like a dream
Ok so what the fuck

Liberal extremists
Worst Gorillaz song ever. And it hasn't aged well at all
You're wrong but that's ok don't worry.
I love this guy's voice soooo much!!! God, it flows like honey.
The song and video are about materialism, greed, the state of the United States financially/geopolitically, and more, yet one reference to a contentious individual and all of the sudden the song is a personal attack on that individual. Take your head out of your ass, take off your blinders, and see the WHOLE song, beyond the surface level and understand the MESSAGE. The way some are reacting is comparable to me saying "I went running early in the morning" in the middle of a conversation then a person assuming the entire conversation has to do with waking up early and subsequently checking out and acting like a child because they don't like waking up early.
Why did I sleep on this for so long
Also is all the footage protected under fair use or did they pay to license all of it because some of it seems like it would be pretty expensive to license
You know, returning to this song after 2 years, this really is a profound and beautiful song and I regret disliking it for so long.
Most the rest of Humanz still pretty meh though 🤷♀️
coming back to this song after a couple of years I can't believe I just dismissed it. fantastic.
What's movie on the 2:08's second? Pleeeeeeas!
Baraka, but it was also used in the game Sid Meiers Alpha Centauri.
I’m not really a Gorillaz fan but this is an amazing tune. Unfortunate that so many of their fans are close minded and just want mindless pop songs that don’t challenge them
It is absolutely new level of popular culture
I’m adding this to my mixtape.
i am scared
This video fucking scares me
How did I not realize he collabed with Gorillaz
Benjamin got a beautiful voice

Marfa piesa!
I love Gorillaz, but i don't like this song :p
Btw, Gorillaz is one of the best things in my life <3
Yeah, I know this song is symbolized by politicians like Trump in 2016 but this is still Gorillaz.
Dark lyrics, weird genre, beautiful voice.
Donald Trump and Spongebob are all canon in Gorillaz lore thanks to this video. Wow.
well this is shit
I loved gorillaz so much and my life is somewhat connected to them lol they formed around the time I was born, I rediscovered them when I crossed the border from Mexico and they released this song on my 19th birthday
I'm calling ICE
I don't like this song,is boring.
0:45 animal farm?
Do not watch this on acid 🤩
Can someone explain the meaning of the video to me? I mean I think that it’s about worshipping money, but can someone explain it in depth? Like what the images behind him mean? I see that they referenced Animal Farm :0
'gorillaz is getting so political ugh sjws' You Do Not Understand This Band At All!
so weird
This video honestly unsettles me for the glorious lighting, singing and acting... I love it.
Freaking Spongebob... I love this band
When does it get good?
at 0:00
2016 was a terrible year I think this video is kinda like benjamine reflecting on the past(through media) showing all the horrible and scary things that happen. And the lyrics is him coming to terms with the fact he can't predict what's gonna happen in the future but as long as we have love things will be ok.
Im a a fan of Gorillaz but this song Is...a sheet
🗣CHEEKBONES!!!!!!!!!
What I love about this music video of Hallelujah Money is the ending because of SpongeBob crying 😂
R.I.P. Stephen Hillenburg
I’m glad that they gave more attention to Benjamin, he deserves it
And also stop bashing on this song, they’re making more money than you so who gives you the right to talk shit
Well idk if u know about Benjamin but he said that gorillaz was a big mistake in his career.and bashed somebody’s mom too . So i kinda lost respect
"They make more money than you, so you can't criticize them"
I dunno why, but I get really emotional at the part where 2D sings... But then again, I cried when somebody killed a beetle in the bee movie, so maybe I'm just weird.
like si hablas español :3
Am I the only one who hears a male Garnet?
Spongebob
i remember tripping acid to this some
"we're only human. how will me know"
me: i don't know. you're asking the wrong guy...
3:45 Clint Eastwood?
This is creepy, weird and amazing
but why the Spongebob clip tho
that background beeping is making me uneasy...
I'm obcessed with this song and its video. It's so immersive, elevating. Totally transporting. I get so emotional i feel my chest lifting, almost moves me to tears, it gives me shivers.
One of, or my favorite of the band.
So many layers to uncover and experience.
Spongebob at the end just made this a million times better
Why is spongebob in this video? Not that I'm complaining
So it's been a couple years.
In hindsight, I think the message of both this song and the entire album was a bit too on-the-nose, but overall I really like this song. It's so haunting, and it was such a bold move to release it as their first song in several years.
Well to be fair Demon Days and Plastic Beach were also very on the nose about their message as well.
My third favorite song of Gorillaz, also i dunno why people hate it because it talks about the politic things and this wasn't yhe first thing Gorillaz have .ade like this i mean Like protest
0:53 the cartoon being played behind him is about communism, i watched it in sixth grade.
Actually i didn't see any dislike comments at all even i scroll down in the bottom, ok this song is okay for me its still good to hear and that political message is actually right. Well i like gorillaz most because the genre song hip hop, electronic, and others, but this is something new for me so i need to get use to it, but its good to hear tho and very lovely. My only problem is difference and stuff and maybe if i ask someone to listen to this, i think they wouldn't believe me at all this is a gorillaz song that's all. 👌👌
Dude now this is a drug trip that will frick you up
Spongebob at the end though
Shurch with 1000000cups of coffee
First look at the return, gotta say, 10yo me was hyped as fuck.
0:53 I'm sorry, but is that a Gorillaz cosplayer with inverted colors?
0:45 lol we watched that in school after I watched this video
0:44 Animal Farm
Thank God the full album wasn't this fetid. Well-written lyrics suffocated in a mire of vocal and melodic absurdity. Tries to be the final two tracks of Demon Days and misses the mark completely, imo.
Que demonios es esto
Those visuals might all be scary.. But that silhouette 2-D is honestly the most haunting..
The Latiator I just love the way it moves though. Almost mechanical in a way.
