Gorillaz - Fire Coming Out Of A Monkey's Head Lyrics
Once upon a time at the foot of a great mountain,
there was a town where the people known as Happyfolk lived,
their very existence a mystery to the rest of the world,
obscured as it was by great clouds.
Here they played out their peaceful lives,
To live in harmony with the spirit of the mountain called Monkey was enough.
Then one day Strangefolk arrived in the town.
They came in camouflage, hidden behind dark glasses, but no one noticed them: they only saw shadows.
You see, without the Truth of the Eyes, the Happyfolk were blind.
Falling out of aeroplanes and hiding out in holes
Waiting for the sunset to come, people going home
Jump out from behind them and shoot them in the head
Now everybody dancing the dance of the dead,
the dance of the dead,
In time, Strangefolk found their way into the higher reaches of the mountain,
and it was there that they found the caves of unimaginable Sincerity and Beauty.
By chance, they stumbled upon the Place Where All Good Souls Come to Rest.
The Strangefolk, they coveted the jewels in these caves above all things,
and soon they began to mine the mountain, its rich seam fueling the chaos of their own world.
Meanwhile, down in the town, the Happyfolk slept restlessly,
their dreams invaded by shadowy figures digging away at their souls.
Every day, people would wake and stare at the mountain.
Why was it bringing darkness into their lives?
And as the Strangefolk mined deeper and deeper into the mountain,
holes began to appear, bringing with them a cold and bitter wind that chilled the very soul of the monkey.
For the first time, the Happyfolk felt fearful for they knew that soon the Monkey would stir from its deep sleep.
And then came a sound. Distant first, it grew into castrophany so immense it could be heard far away in space.
There were no screams. There was no time.
The mountain called Monkey had spoken.
There was only fire.
And then, nothing.
O little town in U.S.A, your time has come to see
There's nothing you believe you want
But where were you when it all came down on me?
Did you call me now?

Leonard Cohen - You Want It Darker
This songs fuckin wild
This song seems like it fits the tensions between the U.S. and Iran
I love bed time stories!!!
This album is fucking perfect dude
This is one of those songs that sounds a little different every time you hear it. Maybe the Strangefolk are colonizers and the Happyfolk are natives, and it’s the same story of destroying what is discovered. Or it’s the Garden of Eden, and the Happyfolk have to leave eventually, because the sheltered life cannot last. Or we, the general public, are the Happyfolk, and we need the truth to open our eyes because otherwise we’re blind to the coming dangers.
I know there are already several comments about the meaning of the song, but (according to Rise Of The Ogre) it's about being ignorant to the evil in the world, and how we should be able to open our eyes to it without getting poisoned.
I have a strong suspicion that this might be a metaphor for Vietnam...
It was about the Oil War in the Middle East, I think.
I’m stealing this band and making a world wide movie. And no ones going to stop me . Hahahhahahahhaajjahahajjahajahja
Who else finds this song completely creepy but it’s also a complete bop?
This album is very dark.
John vincent check out Leonard Cohen - You Want It Darker. That’s dark lol
@DATONE GAMER Will check it out for sure.
This is a great story about how our world is
We’re the happy folk but also the dark folk
We’re happy to be alive but we’re slowly digging away at our world because of our happiness
Their for we are the dark folk dig away out our own resources not even realizing because we’re blind because of our happiness
Then when the time comes because of our mistakes we will bring our own downfall and then nothing.
That is very good interpretation, thanks.

Everybody gangsta till Dennis Hopper start reading...
Is this a song or a story?
Gorillaz: *yes*
Easily one of my top 10 gorillaz songs
For those who want it

Ah yes, the song we skip on this otherwise amazing album
I skipped it because it deeply haunted me as a kid.
Imagine if this was in _Spec Ops: The Line._
who else is high?
The history of United States on everywhere, they all are strange folk
Enrique Manzanares more like Britain.
More like the history of the damn Brits. You know how many colonies they had?
Whever I listen to this song I picture 2D as the happy folk and Murdoc as the strange folk
Some of electric shock is in this song
Strangely
All the people who disliked this video are Strange Folk
Is no one talking about the title Is different to whats shown in the video
This makes me feel like I’m being told a story around a campfire
Lol this song is about nam, and western imperialism fueled by greed that will inevitably lead to our destruction :)
O início da música me cativa mas o resto dela... Sei lá não me empolga
This song always felt like it was sped up half a step.
Mi favorita! 😍🥰
Whos watching this is in (who the fuck cares what year it is time is a illusion and a farce created by human kind to suppress the reality of our existence bein completely pointless)
Ok but like Demon Dayz brings more nostalgia to me that any album from Gorillaz, and this brings the most nostalgia of all of the songs
Yeah so this was the first gorillaz song I ever heard if you see me say “the first song I’ve listened to from them was On Melancholy Hill” that’s not true and it is actually Fire Coming Out of the Monkey’s head
this song needs more 2D

To think this is about an actual war makes you think twice... Gorilaz never seases to amaze me
of the closet
I had a nightmare about this once.
*Winter, 01:00 AM, nothing to be seen outside the window.*
Me and my little brother sat in the couch looking at a movie, hiding under blankets. Then when the movie ended, he told me that he was too tired to watch another. He walked heavily, yet quickly and silently to his room. I did the same, I walked down the stairs just the same way as he walked on the flat wooden floor. I could not care about the shadows haunting me, I was far too tired to notice. I didn't go to bed immediately, I decided instead to sit in my chair, get cozy with a blanket, listen to music and just imagine. I did that, but I didn't turn the music on, I just sat there in my dark room full of shadows reaching out to me.
All of a sudden, I could hear my brother calling my name. The first time, just normally. The second time, fearfully. The third time, screaming and panicking with pain in his voice. But I couldn't get up, no matter how hard I tried. 2 seconds after giving up, I was freed from my chair and started running up the stairs to go see him. Just as I started running, I fell into my bed, forced to sleep. All I did was *blink. I proceeded to hurry up to him, frightened and sweaty, praying that I would be there to meet him before he died. "What would I do without him? He's the one that stayed honest through my life, no matter of the situation or cause."
I reached his room, tears down my face, only to find him laying tired in his bed. I asked him "Did you call on me?" and he responded with "No, why?". That's when I realized that all of it was just a dream.
That dream taught me a thing or two about loving people, I'll tell you that.
When he says "They came in camouflage, hidden behind dark glasses, but no one noticed them. They only saw shadows; you see, without the truth to the eyes the happy folk were blind" I'm thinking FUCKING REPTILIANS
"I'll get him"
yikes, my childhood. the feels. damn
Don’t be ignorant and don’t be greedy either
Primer set que clients en español
Hah hah hah, wudda sdory mahrk
But seriously though, Damon should write a book unaffiliated with Gorillaz or Blur, and just be its own story. I'd pay good money for that
Such an underrated song
And out of the corner of your eye you spot him: *Shia LaBeouf*
@-- yea... *wait!* he isn't dead shia surprise there's a gun to your head and death in his eyes
i love the double meaning of this
without the truth of the eyes the happy folk were blind: ignorance is bliss, youre a lot happier not knowing the truth of things
falling out of airplanes and hiding out in holes: soldiers, like ww
then the part where the people mine: our soldiers going to war just for the oil and all the resources stolen
maybe im wrong but wow
Fire can also be related to Brexit and 45.
**bashes face into this mirror**
95 people were mining the mountain
Damon is a masterful producer
I love it when they tell a story in a song
Perfect song for Halloween 🎃!
funk O V E R L O A D
Man i didnt even know this gorillaz song existed and i call myself a gorillaz fan
This kinda reminds me of the animal jam backstory
Why?
Happy folks = jammers
Strange folks = phantoms
The cave = zios
Jewels = rares
Shoot them in the head = giving jammers deep sleeps
That moment you realize noodle wrote this
I listened to this song countless times and yet i never noticed the backing "hmms."
1080p to look at a still image of the album cover? SIGN ME THE HELL UP.
Una de las canciones que ayudan a definir a Demon Days quizás no como el mejor trabajo de Damon Albarn, pero sí de Gorillaz.
Concuerdo contigo
😃😃😃😃🎧🎶🎵
The jewels are oil, right?
Any finite natural resource that encourages colonialism really
What a POWERFUL word, ... "CASTROPHONY." To all you younger folks out there that still believe in PEACE and HARMONY, Please remember Hiroshima, where millions were obliterated, and worse, suffered from radiation poisoning. I'm not a GOTTDAMN liberal tree huggin beeeotch, BUT ... I believe in a reason to give humanity a chance and I don't know why for the life of me. Won't be long before that FIRE is comin out places where we all will get burned.
a big great for this !!!!!

Holy shit I just realized this is about terrorism, how America handled it, and how people saw it Jesus Christ. The mountain is obviously about 9/11 as well
More like colonialism and the finite natural resources that inspires it in general
Not the best song but very good

Dirty harry???? 👌👌💜
The California Gold Rush (1848–1855) began on January 24, 1848, when gold was found by James W. Marshall at Sutter's Mill in Coloma, California.[1] The news of gold brought approximately 300,000 people to California from the rest of the United States and abroad.[2] The sudden influx of immigration and gold into the money supply reinvigorated the American economy, and California became one of the few American states to go directly to statehood without first being a territory, in the Compromise of 1850. The Gold Rush had severe effects on Native Californians and resulted in a precipitous population decline from disease, genocide and starvation. By the time it ended, California had gone from a thinly populated ex-Mexican territory, to the home state of the first presidential nominee for the new Republican Party, in 1856.The effects of the Gold Rush were substantial. Whole indigenous societies were attacked and pushed off their lands by the gold-seekers, called "forty-niners" (referring to 1849). The first to hear confirmed information of the gold rush were the people in Oregon, the Sandwich Islands (Hawaii), and Latin America, and they were the first to move to the state in late 1848. Of the approximately 300,000 people who came to California during the Gold Rush, about half arrived by sea and half came overland on the California Trail and the Gila River trail; forty-niners often faced substantial hardships on the trip. While most of the newly arrived were Americans, the gold rush attracted thousands from Latin America, Europe, Australia, and China. Agriculture and ranching expanded throughout the state to meet the needs of the settlers. San Francisco grew from a small settlement of about 200 residents in 1846 to a boomtown of about 36,000 by 1852. Roads, churches, schools and other towns were built throughout California. In 1849 a state constitution was written. The new constitution was adopted by referendum vote, and the future state's interim first governor and legislature were chosen. In September, 1850, California became a state.
At the beginning of the Gold Rush, there was no law regarding property rights in the goldfields and a system of "staking claims" was developed. Prospectors retrieved the gold from streams and riverbeds using simple techniques, such as panning. Although the mining caused environmental harm, more sophisticated methods of gold recovery were developed and later adopted around the world. New methods of transportation developed as steamships came into regular service. By 1869, railroads were built from California to the eastern United States. At its peak, technological advances reached a point where significant financing was required, increasing the proportion of gold companies to individual miners. Gold worth tens of billions of today's US dollars was recovered, which led to great wealth for a few, though many who participated in the California Gold Rush earned little more than they had started with.
Funny how this piece of history can also fit into this song. Ah America and the chase for resources nothing new, only the base of the story.
I love how this clearly tells a story representing the Vietnamese war!
74 people think that fire is gay
I love Gorillaz so much istg
I don't just like this song because of it's tune, the vocals of Dennis Hopper, or its creepy feeling, but it's message. The message of this song is what has helped me wake up and see how everyone acts like everything is ok but it isn't. and you wanna know what scares me the most from this song? knowing that when we don't know what's really happening outside our little mountain, it's gonna come for us, and it's gonna end us all.
Playing BTD5 while listening to this.
murdoc is a nob
#itwasntcancer
fire is gay confirmed
Reminds me of War of the worlds
