Gore, Lesley - Look Of Love Lyrics

Look at the way he looks at her
Look at the way he smiles
I remember when he was mine
I remember when things were fine, oh
Look at the way he looks at her, now
Isn't that the look of love?

Look at the way he holds her hand
Look at the way they dance
I remember when he loved me
I remember how we used to be, but
Look at the way he smiles at her, now
Isn't that the look of love?

Here I am all by myself
Watching him with someone else
Bet he doesn't even know I'm here
Wish I could hold back my tears, but...

Look at the way he's kissing her
Look at him hold her tight
I remember his warm embrace
And the tender look on his face, yes
Look at the way he looks at her, now
Isn't that the look of love?
Isn't that the look of love? Woh, oh, oh
Isn't that the look of love? Hey, hey, hey
Isn't that the look of love? Oh, oh, now
Isn't that the look of love? Hey, yay
Isn't that the look of love? Oh, oh, oh...

I saw LG some years ago at the MS Casino in CT when she brought the house down. She is surely missed by us who loved her music. Having said that, This video reminds me of when Audrey Hepburn, turned heads with her stunning beauty. Times were different and better back then.

  11. P.... T....

    What movie was this?

    P.... T....

    Two For the Road

  12. M.... A....

4got how ravishing she was.. yeah she was thin, but that extra weight  would have destroyed her whole persona and beauty. Albert Finny was an excellent choice for her, "Two for the road" companion. They played off each other perfectly

  13. R.... ....

    Probably her Best song.....

  14. B.... V....

LOVE the background vocals of those girls. In '64 this was one of my favorite songs. Of course, EVERYTHING about 1964 was magic, and the quality of this pop song personifies the era of the golden mystical magical mid sixties. What a pleasure to have been there. Thanks Lesley!

  15. S.... S....

Her voice had the sound of romance , love you Lesley !

  16. T.... C....

  34. B.... H....

Always a fan of 50 and 60's music and Lesley, but never remember this song. Love your version. Thanks!

  35. h.... ....

Thanks for the backing info. Originally thought this was the Wrecking Crew, but Lesley probably recorded in NYC.

    h.... ....

She recorded in NY & LA, but this song was recorded in NY.

  36. N.... W....

I grew up listening to Leslie Gore she was 8 years older than me...Last time I saw her I was working at the Midland Hotel in Chicago .She and others were doing some kind of benefit in late 1990s .

  37. J.... M....

Nice song form the sixties of last Century.  Times were very different from what they have since become. But it is nice to remember my youth hearing this songs I used to hear then.

  38. c.... w....

Excellent version of this song! Thank you!

  39. M.... T....

Where did you get the video? Great combination of one of my favorite artists.

    M.... T....

I cut the video together with scenes from the movie "Two For The Road".

  40. a.... ....

What possessed you to use shots from "Two for the Road" for this track? Not to malign anyone but Audrey Hepburn was the least appealing actress I've ever seen. It's not only hard to understand anything she says but she stopped making movies when she no longer could pull off the naïve waif character.

    a.... ....

alg11297 hey how about you shut the fuck up

  41. E.... ....

    I love you Lesley...Forever more.

  42. T.... S....

My favorite track of hers and I have all of them. I buy every new reissue. Such an incredible performance and recordings. Really amazing. I never get tired of listening to it. You have done a fabulous job of combining the versions. Thanks.

  43. B.... ....

I was shocked and saddened to learn that Lesley Gore had passed away back in February. I knew about her passing only yesterday (August 24). I must have overlooked the news. Anyway, I hope that she will rest in peace. She was another great icon of girls' pops in the 60s.

  44. c.... ....

Very thorough piece of engineering - kudos!
This tune charted 12/26/64+ for 9 weeks, reaching #27 on the Billboard Hot100

    Just Great😍

  46. Z.... F....

    MARVELOUS

  47. P.... S....

Great version of the song written by Ellie Greenwich.  I believe that Ellie also supplied backup vocals on this song.  Also, like your video.  What a classic with Audrey Hepburn.  Great job!  Great pairing with Ms. Gore's singing.  Thanks for posting this song with the movie.

    P.... S....

@Petr Slivinski Thanks Petr, glad you liked it. In my description above, I pointed out that Ellie Greenwich, Jean Thomas, and Mikie Harris are doing the background vocals.

    P.... S....

Petr Slivinski The backups on this song were sung by Lesley.

  48. B.... P....

Lesley was so awesome. She was a real life superstar back when that meant something. I miss her and Karen and Dusty a lot.

  49. L.... R....

Lesley Gore is awesome but "Two for the Road" is an awful movie.

    L.... R....

+L Rogers You got that right! This great song by Lesley is all about love but the movie was much more about a married couple falling OUT of love and for me, it was VERY depressing! But I loved the wonderful intro song to the movie by Henry Mancini and the colorful intro graphics, too. Anyhow, I saw Lesley in concert years ago in Cupertino, CA. and she said that she loved singing this song and she did a fine job with it in that concert. Rest in peace, Lesley, and thanks for the memories! You will always be fondly remembered for the joy you gave us in your music.

    L.... R....

I watched the movie out of curiosity after reading your comments. Didn't care for it either. But love, love this song and Lesley!

    L.... R....

The plot of the movie it came from has 100% nothing to do with the out-of-sequence scenes and expressions I liked for this song.

There's always the more desirable non-creative videos for this song that have a regular version with just a record label showing.

  50. k.... p....

many thanks for this posting. this is my favourite Lesley Gore track, always makes me feel happy and is wonderful to listen to in-car. thanks again

  56. M.... ....

My favorite Lesley Gore song. Tenafly lost a great talent. Thanks Lesley for getting me over some of the bumps in the road.

  57. J.... F....

Good choice using Two For the Road. Audrey's expressions go perfectly with Lesley's lyrics. Well done!

    J.... F....

Thanks John. Glad you checked it out!

    J.... F....

I've watched this many many times int he past years. Thanks for making it. Two For The Road is a wonderful film but a bit sad too, yes?

    J.... F....

The movie is a bit sad, but it was a good source for visuals.

  58. V.... H....

We've lost a truly lovely and wonderful singer; RIP Lesley. God has embraced you.

  59. D.... M....

    R.I.P. Ms. Gore.

  60. W.... R....

I was saddened to hear of the passing of Lesley Gore. Her music, back in the early and mid 60's never failed to put a smile on my face. From everything I've heard and read about her she was a very down to earth, caring individual, who never took herself too seriously; in spite of the fact that she was such an awesome, singer/songwriter and performer. This old world is a much poorer place without her in it. R.I.P. Lesley. I will miss you and your beautiful face & voice.

    W.... R....

Wally, I couldn't have said it better. She was one hell of a singer and also wrote many songs, too. This is my favorite Leslie Gore song!

    W.... R....

WALLY, I COULDN'T HAVE SAID IT BETTER. RIP LESLEY GORE.

THE LOOK AND THE SOUND OF LOVE...WE LOSE GREATS LIKE MS.GORE AND ARE LEFT WITH THE LIKES OF BEYONCE,GAGA,NICKI MINAJ,AND THE LIKE(PURE TRASH!)...REST IN PEACE,YOU ARE NOW WITH GOD.

    c.... r....

Might agree with you overall, but if you saw Beyonce during last night's tribute to Stevie Wonder, and a dozen other places, you might not include her with the others. That said, Lesley's passing is indeed a very sad, very premature loss. How I wish we could truly beat cancer - and some other painful killers - already. :(  :(

    c.... r....

Okay I'm fine if you insult Nicki Minaj and Lady Gaga, that's fine. But don't ever, EVER insult the queen herself, Beyonce!

    c.... r....

+charles randolph seriously now, are there any rock stars and lesbians in heaven?

    c.... r....

+マイナーすごい The "queen" of what??? Beyonce considers herself a legend in HER own mind!

  63. f.... ....

She was one of the best girl singers in that delightful early-'60s era. R.I.P.

  64. r.... m....

    It's a great sadness

Will crank up my greatest hits CD this summer and think of her.

    R I P  Lesley.

NEW YORK (AP) — Singer-songwriter Lesley Gore, who topped the charts in 1963 at age 16 with her epic song of teenage angst, "It's My Party," and followed it up with the hits "Judy's Turn to Cry," and the feminist anthem "You Don't Own Me," died Monday. She was 68.
Gore died of lung cancer at New York University Langone Medical Center in Manhattan, according to her partner of 33 years, Lois Sasson.

  68. w.... ....

Fantastic. This is one of my favorites... not an easy thing to pick.

  69. 1.... ....

R.I.P., Lesley. You were one of a kind female singer. You will be missed.

  70. S.... W....

I'm sorry but Hal Blaine did not play on this. this wasn't even recorded in LA, it was recorded in NY, most likely at A&R Studios with Phil Ramone engineering. the drummer on this is some unknown NY session musician.

    S.... W....

    Sam Williams sorry Quincy Jones

  71. d.... l....

mutley,  have you played around with that new software called CAPSTAN?    It has one sole function:  to remove wow and flutter from old recordings.   Yes,  they've finally figured out a way to flawlessly do that.   It is electrifying to hear some of these old 1960's cuts cleaned up with CAPSTAN,   because most of these old songs actually WENT TO VINYL PRESS with that wow and flutter as part of the very recording (think of the weird flutter in "Sally Go 'Round The Roses"  or the weird detuning whine of the violins on the tag of "To Sir, With Love").   CAPSTAN eliminates them...  You of all people will dig it.

    d.... l....

"old songs actually WENT TO VINYL PRESS with that wow and flutter as part of the very recording".
No they didn't.   Wow is a relatively slow form of flutter (pitch variation).  Wow and flutter are turntable defects and sometimes the result of off-center holes. The examples you give are of effects.

"Sally Go 'Round The Roses" has neither wow nor flutter.  You may have a crappy turntable or a worn belt.

  72. d.... l....

This is incredibly cool,  mutley.    You're right--  all the stuff is goin' on here.  And at the brisker tempo.   Fabulous.    My late friend Ellie Greenwich said it was she doing the backup vocals on this number...

    d.... l....

Hi David. Glad you liked the video! Ellie does the background along with Jean Thomas and Mikie Harris, as per my description. I haven't tried Capstan yet. I'll see if I can get a copy of it. Sounds really useful, considering where I have to source some of these songs.

Lesley is a golden treasure of my teenage years. In 1964 I was 15 years old and all of us loved Lesley Gore. Her vocals and lyrics spoke to our hearts in the love language of the era. She is precious, gorgeous, intelligent and I just cant say enough great things about  this lovely lady.

    s.... k....

    Exactly right, Samuel   :D

  74. M.... ....

    I agree!

  75. j.... ....

The backing vocal arrangement of this is fantastic. Love this sound. Several of the vids of Lesley on you tube show her performing live but without those backing vocals. It just gives those songs the "girl group" sound that was so prevalent in this period.

  76. J.... ....

Wonderful song. People were thinner then because they ate less.

  77. M.... ....

WHAT A GREAT MOVIE AND SINGER AND SONG.

  78. T.... ....

    LP version has no overdubs.

    T.... ....

Hence my description about this video version combining that LP version with the 45 version, and matching the tempos.

    T.... ....

And a great job you did of it, too!  Thanks!

  79. r.... m....

I love this song it reminds me of my ex girlfriend

  80. E.... P....

    Its so cute!

  81. G.... ....

Absolutely Excellent song!!!! And My O My -- look at her eyes!!!!  Those have got to have been the prettiest eyes you ever saw!!!!!

  82. S.... L....

i remember when he was mine. this still makes me cry.

  83. D.... C....

Love this mix! So clean and punchy.

  84. R.... C....

probably if it had not been for Beatlemania, this would have been a much bigger hit. kind of sad that Lesley Gore, along with so many Motown acts and girl groups, took a back seat to the Beatles in '64-'65.

    R.... C....

    I agree

    R.... C....

???... Everybody took a back seat. That's the music business...

    R.... C....

    ??????. ..

    R.... C....

@Dave dvlaries lol.you folks need to relax

    R.... C....

Motown thrived during the British Invasion, as did the Four Seasons, The Beach Boys.

  85. B.... B....

    My favorite L G song!!!!!

  86. W.... ....

Part of the backing vocal on this version is used in a blend of oldies for a promotion of an oldies channel.  I knew I had heard it before but couldn't place it until I heard this song on that station.

  87. C.... B....

The drumming on this is pure genius: An aural textbook for percussionists on how to enhance the appeal of a pop song.

    C.... B....

Buddy Salzman. That part is from the more laid back album version of the song that I mixed in.

    C.... B....

mutleybird do you have documentation to prove that he was in the fact the drummer on this song? Who else was on this record besides him then if you do in fact have documented proof that he is in fact the drummer on this song?

  88. z.... ....

The Movie One For The Road is available on DVD with Audrey Hepburn it is like all movies of the past GOOD.

  89. 1.... ....

IT WAS -- just not as "big" a hit as Gore's other singles!

  90. M.... ....

GREAT SONG, GREAT VEDIO. SO GREAT

  91. V.... W....

Leslie Gore AKA Leslie Goldstein is and always will the QUEEN OF THE 60s
    '

  92. V.... S....

I was young and in love when this song came out, the person I was In love wit didn't know I was alive, this song has so meaning for me,..

  93. s.... ....

Great tune by Lesley, written by Ellie Greenwich and Jeff Barry (Ellie sings backup). Original version (slower version) appeared on her GIRL TALK album, 1964. The single version, released around Christmas time 1964, was speeded up a bit and jingle bells were added. The B side of the single featured YOU'VE COME BACK (also from the GIRL TALK album).

  94. g.... ....

It's hard to believe David Bowie's "The Rise & Fall of Ziggy Stardust & The Spiders From Mars" LP was released 40 years ago last year, and The Ramones' "I Wanna Be Sedated" and Blondie's "Heart Of Glass" are 35 years old this year!

  95. g.... ....

Yes, and our generation (the glam, punk rock & New Wave eras) had some great music too, from such acts as Alice Cooper, The Stooges, David Bowie, T. Rex, Slade, Sweet, Suzi Quatro, The New York Dolls, The Runaways, The Ramones, The Patti Smith Group, Blondie, Talking Heads, The Heartbreakers, The Dead Boys, The Sex Pistols, X Ray Spex, The Buzzcocks, The Clash, The Undertones, The Skids, The B-52's, Lene Lovich, The Psychedelic Furs, The Go-Go's, and many more.

  96. S.... ....

How was this not a hit?

  97. W.... ....

To Miranda Jean, I'm sad to say, the film is " Two For The Road", from '63, with Albert Finney, young & handsome, & the luminous Audrey Hepburn. It's sad because Finney has not aged well, Audrey left us many years ago, & I recall the movie & of course, this wonderful song from Late'64, by Lesley. I was 18 y/o , madly in love with a girl named Susie Shea, & I just knew I'd always be young, handsome, lean & invincible. Wolfsky9, 66 y/o

  98. m.... ....

I never knew Audrey Hepburn was sooo thin.

  99. B.... ....

Great mixing job!! I am sure it was a labor of love and it shows with the great results.

  100. m.... ....

THIS IS MY ALL TIME FAVORITE SONG OF LESLIE GORE. I MET LESLEY BACK STAGE AT THE IMA AUDITORIUM IN FLINT MICHIGAN. WHERE SHE PERFORMED. SHE SHOOK MY HAND AND I MELTED. IT WAS IN THE MID 70'S
ISNT THAT THE LOOK OF LOVE.
