Gordon Lightfoot - Spin, Spin Lyrics

So fine, so fine the web you spin,
I come too close and I'm caught again!
In the web of wild design,
I do not know what fate is mine!
All the day sit and spin,
Spin your web and you draw me in.
Spin, spin, spin, spin!

And my daddy said when I was young,
"beware the web of love, my son,
To be in love is to be insane,
Make an old man groan, a young man pain!"
All the day, sit and spin,
Spin your web and you draw me in.
Spin, spin, spin, spin!

Then I did go and the time did fly,
Many a true love passed me by.
And then you came like a blinding storm,
I landed in your web so warm,
Spin your web and you draw me in.
Spin, spin, spin, spin!

So fine, so fine the web you spin,
I come too close and I'm caught again!
In the web of wild desire,
And I cannot control the fire!
All the day sit and spin,
You spin your web and you draw me in.

wow this is a very rare treat nice to see an early performance by Gordon Lightfoot:) thanks for sharing.

  2. G.... V....

    Ring of Fire?

  3. G.... V....

    Similar to "Ring of Fire".

  4. s.... ....

It is painful to watch GL and his band lip-sync to a prerecorded track.
But that was how the television stations liked to do it back them.
The give away is that the electric instruments of the bass player and seated guitar player were not plugged in to anything.

    s.... ....

I think most folk and country artists are bad lip-synchers because they most hate having to do it, would probably just rather get their guitars and do it live.

  5. P.... ....

Gordon seems a bit nervous here. Almost like he's out of his element.

    P.... ....

Gordon Lightfoot used to suffer from anxiety when he was younger he used booze to battle it which was a bad idea.

    P.... ....

I knew that he battled the booze for many years. Never knew about the anxiety. Poor guy.

    P.... ....

ya he had his problems but we all do .. still a Canadian Legend

    P.... ....

He seems a lot more at ease these days. Looks like he's come a long way.

  6. A.... M....

    so lovely/naif:)

  7. M.... B....

    Great Song!

  8. N.... M....

Thanks Nicholas Jennings who wrote Gord's biography....the rest of the world can now understand. Oh Lightfoot is sooooo influential ...this is fantastic.

  9. d.... ....

This is lip-synced: no guitar leads, no microphones and a fade ending.

    d.... ....

Pre-recorded, yes. It's not the record though.

  10. M.... M....

Is that Ian Tyson at the start?

    M.... M....

Got to be, or his twin brother!

    M.... M....

Absolutely! Back in the '60's, I thought Ian was one of the most handsome men I'd ever seen (and I still have picture of him from that error hanging on my wall). That's definitely Ian there.

    M.... M....

"from that era," I intended to type

  11. E.... C....

He looks like a DC Marvel comics character. Maybe a cross between Superman and Aquaman.

Wow, this is great!  An actual video from 1966 of Gordon singing Spin Spin.  I searched for this song on Youtube a number of times before 2011, then on April 12, 2011, I uploaded the audio. As far as I can find, I'm the first person to upload this song and yours is the only video I've seen to date although there might be more, this one really counts. Thanks so much. It's a song from my early years growing up in Lunenburg County, Nova Scotia, Canada (Mill Cove)

  13. b.... ....

A youthful charm with just a hint of cheekiness that he lost after signing with Warners.

  14. R.... S....

Capo @ second fret so he doesn't have to barre the b chord?

    R.... S....

No, he's using the second-position voicing of the tonic E chord to make so as not to muddy the riff the guitarist plays between verses.

  15. J.... F....

In fact I actually made that fantastic  clip from an official CBC Screening Channel video of the 1966 Show Of The Week called "A Young Happening" (well Gord was young back then a mere 28) "Spin Spin" starts at 48 minutes into the video onhttp://www.vimeo.com/xchannels/eaglerock.page:2Y My point was that even though the song WAS included on two imported German Bear Family CDs it was studiously ignored by every one of the multitude of Lightfoot sic/sick  "Best of" Hits compilations including the therefore seriously mistitled 2002 issued "COMPLETE Greatest Hits"

  16. S.... '....

According to The Gordon Lightfoot Internet Companion website, this clip was from CBC's "Show of the Week", broadcasted in 1966. The host who was sitting at the table with the two ladies was Ian Tyson.

The song appears on the album "Sunday Concert - Plus" 1969 . It is one of the added songs
