Gordon Lightfoot - Ghosts Of Cape Horn Lyrics
All around old Cape Horn
Ships of the line, ships of the morn
Some who wish they'd never been born
They are the ghosts of Cape Horn
With a rim dim diddy
And a rum dum dum
Sailing away at the break of dawn
They are the ghosts of Cape Horn
See them all in sad repair
Demons dance everywhere
Southern gales, tattered sails
And none to tell the tales
Who follow the bright Southern Cross
You were rounding the Horn
In the eye of a storm
When you lost her one day
And you read all your letters
From oceans away
Then you took them to the bottom of the sea
All around old Cape Horn
Ships of the line, ships of the morn
Some who wish they'd never been born
They are the ghosts of Cape Horn
Fal deral dal riddle de rum
With a rim dim diddy
And a rum dum dum
Sailing away at the break of dawn
They are the ghosts of Cape Horn
Come all you old sea dogs from Devon
Southampton, Penzance, and Kinsale
You were caught by the chance
Of a sailor's last dance
It was not meant to be
And you read all your letters
Cried anchors aweigh
Then you took them to the bottom of the sea
All around old Cape Horn
Ships of the line, ships of the morn
Some who wish they'd never been born
They are the ghosts of Cape Horn
Fal deral dal riddle de rum
With a rim dim diddy
And a rum dum dum
Sailing away at the break of dawn
They are the ghosts of Cape Horn

Gordon Lightfoot Ghosts Of Cape Horn Comments
Just got back from a cruise from Chile to Argentina - around Cape Horn. Thought about this song all cruise-long.
RIP, Chilean AF C-130H pilots, crew and passengers. It's a hard part of the world indeed. God rest your souls.
Kinda see the connection between this song and...but yeah, gotta remember the crew and passengers of that Chilean plane gone down....
Having sailed around Cape Horn my mind kept returning to the visions in my mind of the old three masted schooners and sloops that made their arduous and fateful treks around the cape. Oh, how I would have loved to make that trip. Even if it would have been my last.
Love your imagination............ Music does that to you doesn't it? Its what makes it such a beautiful thing and why it makes people like Mr Lightfoot, such beautiful people.
This song is an elegy for lost sailors, it's a mournful tune for the ones that descended and died. It's got nothing to do with anything other than respect for those that brave the cold dark depths of the sea.
The whistling abilities of Gordon Lightfoot just add to all his other fantastic talents. I think this song has the best whistling solo in a popular song ever recorded!
I agree though "The Stranger" by Billy Joel comes close IMO.
The ghosts of gay porn?? Wtf?! Lmao
Love him and this song, but come on! You gotta admit you hear it, too
Haha! I can't unhear it, you bastard! XD
Minds definitely in the gutter.
I didn't hear it till you mentioned it. Thanks, buzzkill. You ruined the song.
You’re an idiot
@Blue Sky Tree I've heard these idiots with their alternate lyrics...but didn't ruin it for me...
Jaunty seaman's yarn
This song is decidedly NSFW.
I can’t get anything done with him singing evocative nonsense like this in the background. Then he interweaves different melodies together. Where’s Muzak when you need it?!
Bad Gordon!
next time message us when you're not drunk.....
I love this man....
Vivian Perino I do too!🤗 he is a living legend!
He was human....majorly cheated on his wife, etc.

The only one sucking balls here is _you..._ more balls than a Major League pitching machine. Chola.
Your showing how ignorant you are!

@R Diaz your a fucking pussy with no respect for good music

How can anyone NOT love this song! It's brilliant!
No one expects everybody to love any song...no matter how great they think it is...
This song makes you want to buy some Old Spice.
Dude, you made me fuckin' nasal-eject my coffee on my Samsung 32-inch monitor.
Vietnam vet, US Navy, and Proud to be!!!☯️
I bought the cheap ass cologne when I was working...and almost made a fellow worker vomit all over themself...
N Michigander here! These maritime folk songs of his are timeless.... In only 3 days so many of us will remember once again the tragic wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald. So many who have lost their lives in these freshwater seas....
What's good for the Michigander is good for the Michigoose!
