Goo Goo Dolls - Broadway Lyrics

Broadway's dark tonight
A little bit weaker than you used to be
Broadway's dark tonight
See the young man sittin' in the old man's bar
Waitin' for his turn to die

The cowboy kills the rock star
And Friday night's gone too far
The dim light hides the years
On all the faded girls

Forgotten but not gone
You drink it off your mind
You talk about the world like it's someplace that you've been

You see, you'd love to run home, but you know you ain't got one
Cuz you're livin' in a world that you're best forgotten, around here

Broadway's dark tonight
A little bit weaker than you used to be
Broadway's dark tonight
See the young man sittin' in the old man's bar
Waitin' for his turn to die

You choke down all your anger
Forget your only son
You pray to statues when you sober up for fun
Your anger don't impress me
The world slapped in your face
It always rains like hell on the loser's day parade

You see, you'd love to run home, but you know you ain't got one
Cuz you're livin' in a world that you're best forgotten
When you're thinkin' you're a joke and nobody's gonna listen
To the one small point I know they've been missing around here

Broadway's dark tonight
A little bit weaker than you used to be
Broadway's dark tonight
See the young man sittin' in the old man's bar
Waitin' for his turn to die

You see, you'd love to run home, but you know you ain't got one
Cuz you're livin' in a world that you're best forgotten
When you're thinkin' you're a joke and nobody's gonna listen
To the one small point I know they've been missing around here
Round here, yeah

Broadway's dark tonight
A little bit weaker than you used to be
Broadway's dark tonight
See the young man sittin' in the old man's bar
Waitin' for his turn to die

  30. A. Stone Thorn

Sounds like the drained 90's but, the who the fuck mentioned Broadway. Did the balless wonder ever go to the Broadway Market!

  31. roger smith

Little bit weaker than you used to be, meant for the 30 year old's since the 20 year old's are still strong. Still, its depressing because every line is true and some of us can't use this for one last run unfortunately. I know, he isn't impressed with a loser. I wish I could, but not at that cost.

  32. Mark M

Reminds me of summer of 99

  39. Schubert Aloysius

I hope cryogenic becomes real in our lifetime so they can freeze Johnny Rzeznik 's brain and study it for millennia! He is so unbearably good! And the directors of all his music videos! Don't let them escape freeze them too!

  40. A. Stone Thorn

I knew they were Buffalo but when I heard the lame song I thought New York 4am! New shame on me! Johnny what have you done for the Broadway Market?

  47. Hiero K.

It must have been true back then too, pop culture is manufactured, made to have a shiny package and sold off to the masses, it takes its toll on the soul but who cares money has to be made!
That's what I inflect from the video.

Been hearing this song a lot lately

  48. Classic WWE 2k Matches

    Love classic alternative rock!

  49. Alejandro Fallas

  50. Juliana Asbury

    I'm 16.... I've loved this song and band since I was 9 ❤

  51. A. Stone Thorn

Lyrics are pretty cool. Is that how it goes? Sell your soul to survive or make it big?

  52. A. Stone Thorn

Gay song but I love the Buffalo reference!

  53. A. Stone Thorn

Fag boy forgot about the family unity in Buffalo! That is worth the fat death! Maybe you were the outside the bell curve where your family was shit! Broadway is dark because the lack innovative brain of the democratic party. I will make my way back!

  54. A. Stone Thorn

I think Johnny is a full on fag (musical speaking) but I love he gives props Broadway, Buffalo! Johnny should hang with the San Diego fags!

  55. Rosie Young

No doubt Johnny is singing about his dad

  65. Geoffrey Dunn

My favorite goo goo dolls song!

  66. Steve Tripi

Growing up in Buffalo's 'burbs in the 90's, this song was a MASSIVE hit locally. And being an 11 year old unfamiliar with why "Broadway" would be dark, instead of bright lights and shows, confused me. I didn't understand that "Broadway" Johnny was referencing was Buffalo's east-side thoroughfare that is a postcard for "Rust Belt" post industrial wasteland, poverty, and degradation. My dad at the time said, "Steve, it's about OUR Broadway, not New York's Broadway. I'll explain it when you're older." I get it now.

Wow, thanks for sharing this. That must have been cool, listening to a rock star from your home town singing about your city (especially at 11).

    Eric Redfield

I totally agree, grew up off broadway

    gutterflower65 dc

Are you the 97 Rock Steve Tripi?

  67. Jezreel Santos

the vibe of goo goo dolls is badass. I don't know why but I feel like I'm connected to this band. they talk about society, human problems. lost and suicidal I dont know how to explain.. but this band speak deeper part of myself.

  68. Mindy Belt

I am so excited to come ya'll ! Thank you for your music! Charlotte, NC

  69. Mina Harker

    2018 anyone

  70. gav240z

I still can't quite make out what this video clip is trying to say. Before I saw this clip I always imagined a black and white scene with an old man at the bar drinking some kind of bourbon or scotch staring into his glass with ice in it. Perhaps that wouldn't have been approved by the spin doctors at the record label though?

  71. Fred Flintstone

"It always rains like hell on the Loser's Day Parade" awesome writing

  72. GeorgeBonanza

I have to tell you something. Its so strange, I do not like ANY of this bands music, nothing, except one album and the whole album makes it onto my list of favorite songs ever. How does that happen?

  73. Shawn Elliott

This song came out just as I was about to start my adult life. (well, _legally_ adult anyway...still plenty of growing up left to do back then.) Nowadays I feel like the young man sitting in the old man's bar, waiting for his turn to die. I know I'm not old, but when I look at the dwindling number of potential futures my life could have now compared to back then, it's terrifying. I wonder how a person is supposed to cope with the loss of all that potential.

    william osborne

    Shawn Elliott truth

    Debra Forbes

Only my belief in Jesus & HIS salvation gets me through.

    Shawn Elliott

That never worked for me. As Blaise Pascal once said, "God has constructed me such that I am incapable of believing in him."

    Debra Forbes

@Shawn Elliott I'll pray for you.

    Shawn Elliott

An answer, partial at least, has presented itself in the birth of my son. In many ways the world is new again as I watch him experience it for the first time.

  74. Shawn Elliott

The pinnacle of The Goo Goo Dolls' success as a band. I've tried listening to their newer stuff, and goddammit, it's just nowhere near as inspired.

    Taylor Kristman

It's awful. It's too poppy. They used to be so good and now they just sound like any other terrible band unfortunately. Still love this stuff

  75. GamesFunMusic2018

I'm going to Broadway next week

  76. BxxxFrosT Bcxx

    7 1 6 ❤️💜❤️💜

  77. Matthew Burrows

This band has sucked since they kicked the orignal drummer out, and they turned into Jovi. Superstar Carwash was an azazing record down hill ever since. Then there is Reznik's terrible facelift.

  78. when yall leave done

  79. Glup Joyo

great vclip even made almost 10years ago
waiting for new song and vclip for 2018

  80. 2000coco

Sweet Lord. That look and that WALK at 1:20 is off the rails hot!

  86. Cassie Moore

He's not hot lol johnny rzeznik is freaking beautiful..omg..

  87. Ferghal Molloy

This is clearly about his Dad. He was a big drinker and a Catholic who he never get on with - 'You forget your only son. Then pray to statues when you sober up for fun'. Great songwriter John Rzeznik.

    John spella

Broadway is a street in Buffalo where John grew up

  88. KENdom Is Eternity

John rzenik looks like jon bon jovi with that hairstyle that jon had in early 2000's look it up

  89. Neil Lumayas

    the legend of emo..

  90. Little Bigfoot

Such a timeless vibe. I heard this song for the first time recently and was amazed it wasn't a bigger hit. Then again, with the Goo Goo Dolls having such a strong catalog, great songs are bound to slip through the cracks.

Anyways, if you're looking for driving yet catchy alt-rock, I'm in a band trying to make exactly that sort of thing. We've got an EP on our channel, of which the second and third tracks are somewhat GGD-esque. Check it out, or don't, it's up to you. Either way, cheers to this wonderful band and the music they make!

    BR 😀

  92. José Antonio García

now im seating in the office hearing goo goo dolls remember when i was so young!! the times go fast my friends!!

  93. Kyle Martin

Always felt like this song should've been a bigger hit. "Broadway is dark tonight." Just such dark tragic lyrics

  94. memoranda1

were these guys supposed to be like a goth band?

    Timothy J. Roberts

Lol what? No. The clothing and style was a touch of it probably but no. Acoustic/rock type music obviously. Full on goth look usually went (maybe still goes) with full on goth-associated acts/artists

  95. Kyle Dechau

Live an hour away from where they are from.

  96. kings69wood

Broadway never gets old, right up there with Naked and Name. Put this one on repeat!!!!!

  97. Lisa Lee

Goo Goo Dolls music brings back the best memories. Their music is still relevant today

  98. Saad Nabil

    From old, back to young!
