Goldsboro, Bobby - Jean Lyrics

Jean, Jean, roses are red
And all the leaves have gone green
And the clouds are so low
You can touch them, and so
Come out to the meadow, Jean

Jean, Jean, you're young and alive
Come out of your half-dreamed dream
And run, if you will, to the top of the hill
Open your arms, bonnie Jean

Till the sheep in the valley come home my way
Till the stars fall around me and find me alone
When the sun comes a-singin' I'll still be waitin'
For Jean, Jean, roses are red
And all of the leaves have gone green
While the hills are ablaze with the moon's yellow haze
Come into my arms, bonnie Jean

(Jean, Jean)
Jean, you're young and alive
Come out of your half-dreamed dream
And run, if you will to the top of the hill
Come into my arms, bonnie Jean

I was 7 years old (1969) , we were on vacation in Victoria/Vancouver , Canada. We were in a park, and there was a Scottish festival going on. A young man in his kilts sang this song with the band that was playing. I never forgot this, my parents were very impressed with the singer and the song at the time. Small memory form a small boy.

Pretty song Bobby Goldsborough made famous, i think. Great vibrato, nicely understated, he has. I never saw the film, but this was a very big song in '68, when i was about 11.

My mother would be playing this POS song on the radio every morning when I was getting ready to go to junior high school. So unbelievably, horribly depressing. Why couldn't this clown have been hit by a train fifty years ago?? A bafflement...

    m.... l....

    Sorry your wrong

    F.... A....

You are never too young or old to love Bobby Goldsboro. I have loved him since I was 12 and I am 62 now. I listen to something by him everyday. But I think it was the sixties and seventies where all the beautiful love songs came out. But that's just me

  37. b.... ....

Great version. . .missing the outpouring of emotion put into it by Oliver, but I think that was the point here: to produce a more vanilla version.

  38. d.... ....

Wow, what a golden oldie. Thank you.

All of the Sad Songs from the 60' s They Just Don't write those songs any more.

    A.... H....

True Alan, but that's why we have to keep appreciating these sad but very beautiful songs like "Jean" and many others.

    A.... H....

    Thank God for that...

  40. m.... s....

Always loved Bobby Goldsboro, but Oliver's version was better. . . Still a good listen, but lacked the passion and heart that Oliver's version has.

  41. A.... P....

Nancy, I love this!! I thought the Oliver version was good but Bobby's version is better.Thank you for it.

  42. J.... J....

ok version,  but Oliver owns this one.   IMO,  bobby Goldsboros'  masterpiece was "with pen in hand".
