Go West - Don't Look Down Lyrics

How much longer 'til the curtain rises?
First night stage fright always hypnotizes
Leading ladies never think about it
Live without it

Try to hide your fear of falling
Keep your eyes on me, I'm calling

Don't look down girl
You know you're holding aces
Don't look down girl
Don't give the game away

One more heartbeat and you walk the wire
Why wait? Ooh, it's too late to put out the fire
Almost strangers, can you stop deceiving
Start believing

Try to hide your fear of falling
Keep your eyes on me, I'm calling

Don't look down girl
You know you're holding aces
Don't look down girl
Don't give the game away, 'cause baby

Oh, even when you feel you can't go on
Laughing at the rain you fool no one
If you don't wanna lose what you have found
Then don't look down

Changing partners is just substitution
It's no solution

Try to hide your fear of falling
Keep your eyes on me, I'm calling

Don't look down girl
You know you're holding aces
Don't look down girl
Don't give the game away

Don't look down girl
You know you're holding aces
Don't look down girl
Don't give the game away

Don't look down
Don't look down
Don't look down
...

Go West Don't Look Down Comments

This pathetic video masks how good this song is!

  2. C.... R....

I had forgotten how good this was. Alan M was stellar as always. Such a sad loss. I was their production manager for a couple of years thru the heyday, and well remember the days we spent in Holland making this video. At the very end, the closing shot, that is me walking with Richard towards the camera as he throws his jacket over it and I go to kiss him :) Those frames for the Varilites were developed by me and the lighting guy, and we used them a lot. When we did the TV show "The Tube" back then, we fought long and hard to get them to let us bring them in to the recording and set them up. They ended up looking great, and shortly afterwards, the Tube built their own!

Freshman year I discovered you guys. I never looked back...

Is it just me or was everyone a lot happier then?

  5. W.... A....

    Good band.

On this day in 1985 {October 5th} Go West performed "Don't Look Down" on the U.S.A. nationally syndicated television program, 'Soul Train'...
The two months later on December 1st, 1985 "Don't Look Down" would peak at #13 {for 2 weeks} on the United Kingdom's Official Top 100 Singles chart, and it spent ten weeks on the chart...
And on the same 'ST' show the duo also performed "We Close Our Eyes, earlier in 1985 on April 7th it peaked at #5 {for 1 week} on the UK Top 100 Singles chart, and it stayed on the chart for fourteen weeks...
Between 1985 and 1993 the London, England duo had thirteen records on the UK Top 100 Singles chart, one made the Top 10, the above 'We Close Our Eyes"...
And from the 'For What It's Worth' department, the day the duo appeared on 'Soul Train' their "Eye to Eye" was at position #42 on Billboard's Hot Dance Club Play chart, but they didn't perform it on the show???

  15. J.... C....

People always rattle on about other bands in the 80's but always forget these guys. They were stellar then and still are now.

    J.... C....

To this day, I could still dance to it the way I used to back then. Wouldn’t be able to walk tomorrow though 🙈

    L.... S....

MazeWest66 I did thank you, brilliant night 😃🎶

    L.... S....

@Leesh Sparkle Superb - Go West have written and performed so many of their hits over the last 30+ years, it must be difficult for them to chose about 15-ish, to play for their concerts.

  29. A.... W....

Another great breakthrough eighties hit by Go West. This group never gets good recognition, but comes out with good hits.

    A.... W....

Thank you Antonio, for your lovely comment, Go West are still going strong and touring today, to packed out audiences, which I feel speaks volumes about their talent and quality of all the songs (((◠‿◠)))

    A.... W....

MazeWest66, I totally agree, In no comparison to the duo group Wham! When the late great George Michael and Andrew Ridgely brings out great spectacular hits, but something about Go West was so special in the eighties when this duo was making hit after hit, going to world tours and giving what the fans want when it comes to their magically music. This group was so phenomenal that their music speaks for itself. Totally Unbelievable!!!!!☺☺☺☺

  30. D.... D....

OMGAAAWWWDDDDDDD - the memories that this song invokes.
    #flashbacksfromthe80s

  31. m.... g....

Tony Beard, Pino Palladino on the recording and Alan Murphy. No wonder it's great!

  32. s.... ....

Total 80s 'get up and go' motivational song as loads of songs from the era were. Maybe that's what today's kids are missing as they seem more like the walking dead tbh!! Lol

    s.... ....

Definitely shyboy5005, quality speaks for it's self. Go West are still touring, with s strong following (((◠‿◠)))

    s.... ....

It's called passion, not sure today's kids know what it is, it was once the heartbeat of pop music and at some point in the late 1980s I think it suffered a mortal wound, probably when gangsta rap came along, technology usurped creativity, total corporate control of 'talent' and ugly narcissists instead of passionate artists were encouraged and hyped leading to this lethargic dull sad empty talentless generation.

  33. m.... ....

Pretty tricky chords for the chorus F/Bb, Eb/Bb Bbm

  34. B.... ....

This album is one of my favorites from the 80's.

  35. B.... C....

PETER COX could sing!!!, loved this from day 1

  36. A.... E....

Favorite Go West song and one of the lesser known too. Senior in HS when this came out...good times!!

    A.... E....

Ally E was a top 20 hit as well

    A.... E....

  37. A.... H....

this song will always takes me to 1986 when i was 18,beautiful memory

    A.... W....

    Your most welcome Arthur (((◠‿◠)))

  40. o.... r....

the sound of the 80's - the ever best "reach" sound that was in "regular pop " :)

    o.... r....

"reach" sound? The synths remind me of Van Halen's "Jump".

    o.... r....

jimmyvibes exactly what I was thinking

  41. B.... C....

any chance of releasing the runaway train tour in mp3 format?

  42. M.... ....
