Gledhill, Mindy - Small Enough Lyrics

Oh great God, be small enough to hear me now
There were times when I was crying from the dark of Daniel's den
and I have asked You once or twice if You would part the sea again
But tonight I do not need a fiery pillar in the sky
Just want to know You're gonna hold me if I start to cry
Oh great God, be small enough to hear me now
Oh great God, be close enough to feel You now
(Oh great God, be close to me)
There have been moments when I could not face Goliath on my own
and how could I forget we marched around our share of Jericho
But I will not be setting out a fleece for You tonight
Just want to know that everything will be all right
Oh great God, be close enough to feel You now
All praise and all the honor be, to the God of ancient mysteries
Who’s every sign and wonder turn the pages of our history
But tonight my heart is heavy and I cannot keep from whispering this prayer
“Are You there?”
and I know You could leave writing on the wall that’s just for me
Or send wisdom while I'm sleeping like in Solomon's sweet dreams
But I don’t need the strength of Samson, or a chariot in the air
Just want to know that You still know how many hairs are on my head
Oh great God, (are You small enough) be small enough to hear me now

Nice, but I still prefer the original by Nicole Nordeman.

LDS membesr on average have much less rates of social pathologies like alcoholism, drug addiction, unwed teen moms, and ending up in prison.  But I got to wonder welding one's self to unquestioned belief in such far out nonsense (even by general Christian standards of far out nonsense) made up by Joseph Smith I got to wonder if that doesn't get a person down... depressed even... sometimes.

    t.... ....

@Ian Wahlquist Sorry man magic underwear, secret handshakes, Native Americans are Jewish, The Garden of Eden was in Missouri(!), goofy aprons cribbed from the Masons, ,the disappointing Temple Endowment Ceremony that is really noting but a little instructed meditation, Mitt Romney thinking he would win over Obama (wink) even by the suspension of disbelief required of run of the mill Catholic or Protestant Christians your beliefs are... out there!

    t.... ....

First off, there is no such thing as "magic underwear". The undergarments adult Latter-Day Saints wear are simply a reminder of sacred promises they have made. There is nothing magical about them. As for the other temple rites you mentioned, I haven't yet gone through them, and therefore cannot address them at the present.

Regarding the Jewish Native American comment, there are several pieces of archaeological evidence that it would be no stretch of the imagination to believe that they are evidence of certain Judeo-Christian practices such as baptism. For example, near the Inca city of Machu Picchu, there are sites that appear to have been used for ritual bathing. At other sites, there are indications of a "descending god", also referred to as "Quetzalcoatl". For more information on this,
There are several more sites that correlate with, if not conclusively prove, the Book of Mormon narrative.

In regard to the location of the Garden of Eden: if you believe it exists, it has to be somewhere, so why not in Missouri. :) We believe in a God who loves us, His children, enough to communicate with us as He did anciently through prophets. That is where He said it is, so that is what we go with. We also believe that knowing its precise location isn't crucial to our eternal progression, and therefore don't worry about it overly much.

I should probably qualify my previous statement: there are some aspects of the Gospel that members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints don't generally question thoroughly. This is because we have already questioned the necessary points of doctrine and determined their truth. If these points, including, but not limited to, the truth of the Book of Mormon, the prophetic calling of Joseph Smith, and the subsequent prophetic calling of Brigham Young, are indeed true, then all the rest will necessarily follow by simple logical progression.

I appreciate your civil, if dubious, discussion. It is often absent in these kinds of conversations. I find it very refreshing! Thank you! :)

And regarding the 2012 presidential election, I must say that many of us had more faith in humanity than was warranted. :(

    t.... ....

I think the key word you used is "unquestioned belief". We are not told to just believe. We are told to  question. But seek answers from God. He has promised that if we ask, he will answer. So if you question what Joseph Smith said he saw, then ask the one who knows.... God. He is where we get our belief from. And it's important to question. My beliefs on what Joseph Smith said about the restored Gospel of Jesus Christ is what gives me hope, not depression.

tradercris you have to give credit to those born into the faith everyone of them will have their day of reckoning. And many will leave the glue that binds many is through all of the history and trials there are stories of miracles and experiences of faith. It is the most difficult Christian faith to live . But those who figure it out really rest from life’s cares and find continuous spiritual nourishment in the hope of Christ and his second coming. It is not a path for the faint of heart but it is a great place for a contrite spirit

i have not heard this song since I was on my mission 7 years ago. I had a copy of this song on a randomly burned CD with various church songs. I didn't even know who sang this song. I'm so happy I stumbled across it this evening. Thank you for posting. This is a very special song for me, with very tender memories associated too it.
