Gill, Vince - Dear Old Flag Lyrics

For the dear old flag I die
Said the wounded drummer boy
Mother, press your lips to mine
O, they bring me peace and joy

'Tis the last time on earth
I shall ever see your face
Mother take me to your heart
Let me die in your embrace

For the dear old flag I die
Mother, dry your weeping eye
For the honor of our land
And the dear old Flag I die

Do not mourn, my mother, dear
Every pang will soon be o'er
For I hear the angel band
Calling from their starry shore

Now I see their banners wave
In the light of perfect day
Though 'tis hard to part with you
Yet I would not wish to stay

For the dear old flag I die
Mother, dry your weeping eye
For the honor of our land
And the dear old flag I die

Farewell, mother, death's cold hand
Weighs upon my spirit now
And I feel his blighting breath
Fan my pallid cheek and brow

Closer, closer to your heart
Let me feel that you are by
While my sight is growing dim
For the dear old flag I die

For the dear old flag I die
Mother, dry your weeping eye
For the honor of our land
And the dear old flag I die

For the honor of our land
And the dear old flag I die

This was about the civil war in the United States...America's history is a story of a people's rising up, against a tyrannical government, to free themselves, and their childrens children, from oppressive government. Then they all forged their homes, here in the wilderness... and as the FIRST government of its kind. A Republic. No one else in the world, has it. I think it was Thomas Jefferson that said the tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time, with the blood of patriots and tryrants--which fully reflects, the reason for the right to bear arms... its not just to protect ourselves from each other, its actually there and was put there, because, free men are in constant danger of tyranny.

+unanimous300 I just saw you ...and commented. I have a Playlist on my Channel called "Civil War Era". I have collected music of this time period. I have a wall of music in my home. I don't "do" clothes, makeup, shoes, hair...I "do" music. Anyway, if you want to check out my music of this time frame, you are welcome anytime, Moppet

I love the song and how it was performed beautifully.  Thank you for posting this video.  I would have never known this existed.  Great voice!

@Classical music 74 You are more than welcome! (I posted the entire album.) I do have a Civil War Era Playlist if you enjoy songs of this time frame. Vince Gill does a great job on this though. Loretta Lynn has a good song & so does Dolly Parton. There are several from this album...Thank YOU for leaving a comment. Some of my videos have zero comments from 2011, so I do appreciate it! My best to you, Moppet
p.s. I just went to the album & found a song you might enjoy. His vocals are good & it's a little similar. Ricky Skaggs with Two Brothers https://youtu.be/kFBPwDjw9hc
