Gil Scott-Heron - Sex Education: Ghetto Style Lyrics

I was doin' it when I was a colored boy of eight or nine or ten
I had never heard of Sigmund Freud but hell I was doin' it then
I was doin' it in my teenaged years when I was running the ghetto streets
Now I had never seen me no ink blot test but it still felt good to me
I was doin' it when I arrived in college searching for my degree
But Lord knows a degree wasn't all I got and that's the way it's supposed to be
I hope that when I have kids of my own they really don't get shook
When I tell them that there are things they've got to learn that can't be found in books.

It beggars belief that I'm the first to like and comment on this track. A timeless track, from a classic album, by an amazing artist. An inspirational artist born of an Opera singing mother and a father who was the first black man to play for Celtic in the bigoted and sectarian hotbed that is Glasgow (they dubbed him the black arrow!) Gil had music and libertarianism in his blood! Died on my birthday 3 years ago!   Thank you to the creator of one of the best albums I'll ever own, Tioc faidh ar la!

is that so? glaswegian ancestry? i have a two young daughters now, i'm 33, . when i first heard "I hope that when I have kids of my own they really don't get shook When I tell them that there are things they've got to learn that can't be found in books" i was about 17 then and i knew that this would shape the way i thought. i hope it echos in the way my children think. i was very disheartened when i learned he had died of a drug overdose and he had succumbed to something he looked so down upon.
