Gibb, Barry - The Long Goodbye Lyrics

I found your letter under the stairs
I left it in that place you would go
When you were lost
You always know it's there
This has been the long goodbye
And there's nothing I can do
To erase my faith in you
All that pain I put you through
You were there
You were there

We used to lie there under the stars
We used to make believe they were ours
This was the love we thought could never die
This could be the long goodbye
And there's nothing I can say
To erase that final day
And we found out on the way
You were there
You were there

This has been the long goodbye
And there's nothing I can say
To erase that final day
And we found out on the way
You were there
You were there

Barry's voice as changed considerably...but this is still a very nice song!

He is not 30 years old anymore. Still has a great voice and is 71 until Sept. 1

From Barry ...for his brothers..all three.

So much baggage Barry carries. He was not getting along with each brother at the time of their deaths. So sad...glad I was getting along with my brother at the time of his passing; and my mom.

Is this for the people who have lost their memory. And for those that cared for them? I understand your lyrics as my father has Alzheimers and we visit often, my mother visits most days, but he doesn't know us anymore.

That is what I thought when I saw the title. It definitely fits for those dealing with Alzheimers. My mother has it and I feel that the person she was is gone. It is such a horrible disease.

The following is from an interview with Barry about the song.

"Of the many heartfelt songs on In The Now, one called The Long Goodbye “came from the loss of all my brothers”, says Barry. He adds: I don’t think it is specifically a love song, I think that’s how it came about. We spent a lot of time dealing with each other, whether it was positive or negative — we dealt with it. “For the last few years, first losing Andy, then Mo and then Robin, it really was a journey for me. I am the eldest, I should have been the first. I am still sitting here wondering, ‘Why?’ Though I’ve accepted it more now.”

"The Long Goodbye" is how Nancy Reagan referred to her husband Ronald Reagan's Alzheimer's. So, maybe?

My Dad died from complications of Alzheimers. It is the saddest disease. So hard to watch your loved one fade away!!!
