Ghostface Killah - The Soul Controller Lyrics

[Intro: The Force MD's]

Whoaahhhoahhh, oahhhohhhhh
It's been a long, long
A long time coming
A change gon' come

[Verse One: Ghostface]

Yo, yo these streets got me backed down how can I escape?
How can I survive without bubblin weight?
It's prepared for the stand off, once you hand off
that white rock, and then give birth to a knot
Your biggest dream was to rock your 850 and beam
You and the Gods buy a crib in the white part of Queens
But at the same time, niggaz on the block is ill
Some'll rock you to sleep, hap, for selling cross pills
Being watched all day like enemy's prey
Faces, you never seen before is in your hallway
Brothers you knew for years is mad pussy and scared
Back in the days U.F.O.'s couldn't walk up in here
It's time to motor, travel like a foul order
Clear my head, stay sober, the soul controller

[Chorus: The Force MD's]

Oahhhh, it's been a long, long
A long time coming
A change gon' come
Oh, yes it will
Said I'm too, tired of livin
But I'm, but I'm afraid to die
Cause I don't know what's up there
In that great big ol' sky

[Verse Two: Ghostface]

Sink deep into the fog, big buffalo large
Taj Mahal just got banged, shanked for eighty dollars
It's hard to keep up, with these key-ons, that smoke dust
In the U.S. Mint they want to rock the place and call the rush
All these shameless niggaz armed with cherry-red Bally's
On the twenty-fifth, everybody rich is gettin married
Killed for power beans, your brother own schools in Medina
Vaseline lips is cracked cause they all had dreams
They overdue, these Gods own a mosque in Peru
Tropical trees and weaves where they grew bamboo
Olympic minds quick flash like a leak on
A hundred shares short to own Nissan, watch em get they feast on
Royal blue lies inside the eyes of heaven
Curse the head, who speak foul and jinx number seven (seven)
Clear my head and stay sober, the soul controller...
(Stay sober, the soul controller)

[Chorus: The Force MD's]

Oahhh, been a long time comin
Oh yeah
A change gon' come
Woooaahh, yes it will

[Verse Three: Ghostface]

Yo, yo we sit and play the wall like nine super heroes
Late for the man choose and hit socks and stereos
The kid's nice, warnin you twice, run your garmets
Jet to Providence, switch up and back down your Parliament
Ironman is laced with a plate inside the dome piece
Go off in airports, biographies, prophecies
Watch me set it, real key-ons hold down the desert
And walk with a famous name like Supreme Magnetic
Carbon copy, I love my car, it's near choppy
Melachi off the funky pain with the wax poppy on instrumentals
Niggaz get lost like S.S. Minnows
Turned out like rentals, keep gold around the denim

[Outro Part One: The Force MD's]

A change gon come
Yes it will
It's been a long, long
A long time coming
A change gon come
Wooo, yes it will
Said I'm so
Tired of living
But I'm, but I'm afraid to die
Cause I don't know what's up there
In that great, big ol sky
Oh my, oh my, oh my
It's been a long, long time
A long time coming
Change gonna come
Wooo, yes it will

[Outro Part Two: (from the motion picture "Carlito's Way")]

Sorry boys,
All the stitches in the world can't sew me together again
Lay down, lay down
Gonna stretch me out in Fernandez funeral home on hun and ninth street
Always knew I'd make a stop there
But a lot later than a whole gang of people thought
Last of the Mohicans
Well, maybe not the last
Can't come with me on this trip, Loaf
Gettin the shakes now
Last call for drinks
Bar's closin down
Sun's out
Where we goin for breakfast?
Don't wanna go far
Rough night
Tired, baby
Tired...

[Outro Part Three: (from the motion picture "The Usual Suspects")]

Greatest trick the devil ever pulled
Was convincing the world he didn't exist
And like that, he's gone

The Loaded Lux & Hollow Da Don vs Tay Roc & Chess battle rap brought me back here. Awesome battle. By the way, 30 for Loaded Hollow.

  5. S.... K....

They need to bring back this song on the iTunes version.

  6. A.... B....

I bought this album my 10th grade year at a highschool basketball jamboree on Vicinza army base in Italy. Every time i hear this track it takes me to crazy places. Extremely emotional track.

  7. D.... D....

fuck y'all niggas think...Big Ghost in the house... warning you twice run your garments

  8. N.... F....

I found my first vinyl copy of Ironman a few years back for 25, maybe 30 in really good condition. This track was the last to hit me and when it did wow...the way RZA flipped the flute on this gave me Sufi vibes; definitely needs a couple blunts and/or focused listening for maximum pleasure

  9. C.... M....

I swear on everything...this track right here held me down through some wild ass times back in 96-97...to this day I can barely listen to it.

  10. S.... S....

    Rest in peace music

  21. D.... L....

Pure classic that first verse just gets me

  22. m.... ....

My favorite GFK song, and among my favorite hip hop tracks of all time. Powerful medicine.

  23. Y.... H....

This wasnt on the casette tape

  24. N.... G....

My favourite Ghost track. That beat is absolutely killer.

  25. N.... K....

Got the CD and saw this was missing. Was pissed to say the least. I guess I had the cassette version back in the day. Was it on the LP too?

    N.... K....

It was only on the early pressings of the album. It was never a bonus track (the bonus track has always been “Marvel” on the CD version). But this song was part of the original track listing. It was later removed in the later pressings of the album due to sample-clearance issues. The only way to obtain this song is if you have one of the original copies from 1996.

    N.... K....

@Johnny Utah check ebay. i bought the version that has it on there. its the european iron version

  26. E.... C....

i honestly didnt like the last few songs on this album but i heard this a couple months ago and its one of the best tracks on Ironman

    E.... C....

Eric Clark Yeah I personally feel Marvel is one of the few tracks from RZA that is garbage. It’s a semi interesting sound but no so much for a song. Just a low end to a decent album. I remember reading an interview where RZA was talking about not liking Spot Rusherz cuz he felt it was one of his more being beats. How he could be upset about that and not Marvel is beyond me.

  27. B.... B....

    That 3rd verse ......💯💯💯💯💯

  28. B.... B....

    🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

  29. B.... R....

    Favorite rapper

  33. E.... L....

Timeless classic. I’ll be listening to this when I’m 90. Such a soulful, mysterious banger. Ghost rips this.

    E.... L....

Clear my head stay sober the soul controller some time you got to put that shit down and clear your head regroup and focus

    E.... L....

I nailed it! This track is mysterious...it's a mystery how it still brings the same feelings and emotions all these years later. p.e.a.c.e

  34. D.... A....

Dude on the outro took 45 minutes to die 😂

    D.... A....

    Dogs And Yoga

    Carlito’s Way. Watch it

  35. R.... ....

  40. G.... M....

Hardest trak on the whole album.

  41. R.... K....

    Best track on this classic

  42. T.... Y....

Why wasn't this on my CD?

    T.... Y....

It was only on the 1st or 1st & 2nd issue.  The track was removed from subsequent pressings, I'm guessing due to sample issues.  It was always my favorite track on the album.

    T.... Y....

The Yeags u had to get it around when the album first came out. I was 12 when I copped this lol, str8 Wu junkie.

  43. E.... K....

Only for us Real Hip Hop headz that know about this golden era of Hip Hop.

I feel you B.orn U.niverse T.ruth the golden age of Hip Hop goes back to Sugar Hill Gang.

  44. B.... ....

Knowledge of self is evident throughout this teach

  45. B.... ....

I’m going to have to pull the vinyl out tonight...only way to hear it unless you have a copy of the early releases..this is the best beat the RZA produced. It’s flawless

    B.... ....

Hard to argue with that statement.  Amazing track

  46. k.... ....

Skipped school to be the 1st one in the hood to have this CD. Got it from Sam Goody at Cross Creek Mall in Greenwood, South Carolina. Keep in mind I'm from New Jersey but living down south so I had to rep the north extremely hard cuz most of them wasn't feeling the real hip hop from up the way. I converted a few ppl. One of my favorite albums ever.

  47. p.... ....

this shit still gives me chills

    p.... ....

  50. M.... G....

    Thank Bach for the music

  51. E.... K....

this is a great song and the outro at the end just made it greater .

  52. c.... ....

seriously though, fuck sampling laws. This is a beautiful track and we get deprived of it on other pressings of Ironmam because of the uncleared sample. Fucking bullshit.

    c.... ....

chelsea6671 is that why soul controller isnt on the current ironman cd or mp3

  53. J.... J....

Always listened to Fish, Daytona 500, Winter Warz, Motherless Child, The Faster Blade, and Assassination Day on constant repeat. But The Soul Controller felt like to me it was on a higher level...spiritual even. I felt hypnotized by the song as a kid and well into my mid 30's the song still has that same effect on me today.

    J.... J....

@matthewdislestoday's mainstream shit on radio or video don't even resonate with me unless it's really good music in regards to hip-hop. Make sure you check out my playlist "HIP-HOP (STILL) AINT DEAD" as well as some other cool playlists I got on deck!👍🏾

    J.... J....

    I understand this exactly.

    J.... J....

Facts, listen to Swordsman on gza album, has the same feeling to me spiritual

    J.... J....

@Godscience7 7 EXACTLY!!!! Song's like "Swordsman", "No Love Without Hate" by Sunz of Man and "The Soul Controller" do something to your core man...3️⃣RD 👁️ MUSIC.

    J.... J....

    Jeneral J.U.-ICE 💪🏾💯

  54. T.... K....

I rock every single track on this LP after 20 years still. Can't think of many LPs where I love every single track that much.

  55. M.... C....

I played this song on a radio I had walking around the village, when Rza and killa Priest walked out of the nutrition store on 6th ave . I told rza his beatz were mesmerizing and ran through my blood and made me feel invincible.

  56. M.... C....

    stay sober the soul controller...

    M.... C....

Mike Camerino its sole controller meaning you are the creator of your own destiny...

  57. E.... K....

    forever.

  58. I.... a....

I did not know that they pulled this song off the album... I have the original Cassette and CD and was able to always hear these. I've listened to this song so many times that I hear it now without even hearing it. I was listening to IronMan on Spotify in order and for the past few weeks I have not even noticed that its not there... wtf! Thanks god I already got this song melted into my mind and its with me forever now.

    I.... a....

They had issues to clear the sample that's why it's no longer on CD's

  59. R.... D....

marvel was the bonus track on the original cd track 17 soul controller track 16 ...oct 96 ..

    R.... D....

@Ron Davis facts even back wen Frankie limon was singing back in the day they shitted on the teenagers

    R.... D....

@Tripple Darkness It is! Def I cee that too (Ironman being an "extension" of OB4CL)!

    R.... D....

@Ron Davis At the "End of the Day" yeah I could see that but, idk how they take from the artist? Because when they made ironman & that shit went Gold they did NOT start "taxing" niggaz for samples! So Ghost should have got paid his artists fee! It is the Producer & Label that gets HIT! Rza got "beaten up"BADLY in like the late 90's early 2,000's they went through his WHOLE catalogue & TAXED the shit out of him for every sample! If Ghost was a Co-Owner of *Wu-Tang productions* then he would of had to EAT the Losses! But, that is only Rza & his brothers Divine (& 1 other)! What happened is RZA couldn't pay niggaz they royalties for anything they did under his umbrella/Label deal! And that was because he literally didn't HAVE it! But, I wonder what the "Science" is what Epic Records?? Ghost should have seen something from them *UNLESS* the deal was "structured"  *through* "Wu-Tang Productions" & they Fronted the Budget money for Promo & Marketing took a percentage OFF TOP & then gave the REST to Rza & "Wu-Tang Productions" & they were to PAY Ghost!!!

That would make sense because ALL them niggaz SUED Rza! It's Fucked up because its NOT like any of that shit was done "on purpose" RZA is one Honest/Genuine brother!

I heard in an interview how he created a piece of "Recording Tech" literally made it with an engineer! And that shit was to hit the shelves it would have been a dope "gizmo" something that he said has sold (since then to this day) like 150 mill with like 95 of that being PROFIT! He invested his OWN *3 mil* in it along with other Investors! They bought Patents in like 150 countries ALL the popular tech making countries! They showcased their product at a "convention" & a bigger company (I don't know if it was NuMark he said, I think?) they STOLE that idea & manufactured it in a Low Key country where RZA & his partners had NOT *established* "Patency"!

That's when the nigga said: "He learned how this Business shit is!" Its CUT THROAT ma G, they don't be allowing Fresh Fish in the Waters! It's like EVERY facet of business (ALL MARKETS) are on LOCK! ONLY way in is through "acceptance" them "Letting you In" (which we ALL know comes at a MEAN price) *OR* you sneak through the "backdoor" on some ALL the Stars Aligned "so-called" LUCK shit because 9 times out of 10 the will CATCH you trying to Sneak through the Back or Side door!

    R.... D....

Ron Davis: Funny u mention that because in one interview Ghost mentions that his first album was actually supposed to be called Supreme Clientele (I dont know if you remember but on the song “After The Smoke Is Clear”, Ghost says a line... “Supreme Clientele my cartel). On the same interview he said that his second album was supposed to be called Ironman (hence all the Iron Man cartoon samples). I dont know why they flipped it the way they did tho.

  60. c.... ....

One of my favorite songs on the album. So of course they remove it. Like CNN War Report Closer. They changed the beat but the song wasnt the same. I need this in my life!

  74. M.... H....

So intriguing。I like the middle eastern melody。This song is prophecy。 I understand this song very clearly。

    M.... H....

+Michael Howard It's actually not Middle Eastern. It's from Bach's Brandenburg Concerto No. 1, and Bach was German, so technically it's a German melody, but I see where you're coming from lol.

    M.... H....

When I hear this I feel like I'm in Egypt. Hits my soul.
