Get Up Kids, The - Long Goodnight Lyrics

Every attempt to
Is filled with holes
It reads like a polygraph, I'm told
I'm not bitter, anyway
Let it go

I never sleep still
Lest I forget
Tied down by handicaps instead
I'm not bitter, anyway
But I didn't want it to turn out this way

Sing a long goodnight
Forfeit any fight
Refuse to rest assured
It comes with no reply
Hold on too tight
Hang on every word

If it all ended tonight
You know that I wouldn't mind
It'd be back to the good old times
Before it won

If it all ended tonight
You know that I wouldn't mind
It'd be back to the good old times
Before it won

Sing a long goodnight
Forfeit any fight
Refuse to rest assured
It comes with no reply
Hold on too tight
Hang on every word

Sing a long goodnight
Forfeit any fight
Refuse to rest assured
It comes with no reply
Hold on too tight
Hang on every word

  2. B.... V....

Blessed to ever listen to this very special song.

  3. C.... E....

Lo irónico es que presentar las canciones acompañado del término poco conocido es lo que va hacer que justamente se conozcan más por la actual tendencia de individualismo. Sólo un pensamiento y por cierto que buenas rolas.

  4. s.... a....

*_it's not like i was bitter anyway haha what are you talking about_*

  9. T.... ....

This is my favorite The Get Up Kids song. Got me through a breakup a few months ago.

  10. S.... C....

    i'm not bitter anyway

  11. J.... A....

The Get Up Kids, Jawbreaker, Weezer, Rainer Maria, American Football, The Promise Ring = all great bands in the 90s. Heartfelt melodies and lyrics that is rare in the mainstream music these days.

  12. S.... Q....

One of my favorite songs right now.

  13. G.... ....

such a tune. there were so many on this album! shame they made on a wire!

    G.... ....

"On A Wire" is a great album, IMO. It's different from what they were doing musically at the time and their fans couldn't grasp the change in style. It holds up incredibly well though. Hell, people hated "Pinkerton" when it first came out and now it's recognized as the masterpiece it is (not saying OaW is anywhere in the same league as Pinkerton, but both are very good/great albums that were incredibly underappreciated when released).

    G.... ....

@K Radz Thank you. I got into On A Wire years after it was released. It's nothing like this album, but it's still a phenomenal album.

  14. B.... T....

Every attempt to, is filled with holes. Reads like a polygraph I'm told.

  15. D.... I....

    This is so depresing :/
they dont make music like this nowadays.

    D.... I....

@TeaL Hope that EP and music is going well.

    D.... I....

@Vinnie Oh man it is. Trying to get work done every few months, but college is kicking my ass. Hopefully I'll be a great sound engineer by the end though.

regredire coi postumi di una sbornia e di anni finiti non si sa dove.

  17. C.... T....

lol emo means emotional? maybe now.. thats not what it ment.. but whatev

    C.... T....

The term emo in regards to music comes from the hardcore punk scene in the 80's, some bands in the mid to late 80s or so were writing music with the same fast and dirty sound but with more personal, or "emotional" lyrics, therefore (although they disliked the label) bands like Rites of Spring become the first "emotional hardcore" or "emo" bands. Then comes the 90's wave of emo with bands like Jawbreaker and Get Up Kids, then comes the 2000s when kids start slitting their wrists

    C.... T....

+Absinthe Mind With the shitty music they listen to, anyone would've.

    C.... T....

    emotive hardcore.

  18. E.... F....

    frankovich213 You're retarded lol

  19. P.... ....

my whole teenage years in one song.

  20. I.... K....

SOMEONE PLEASE EDIT THIS AND RE POST THIS VIDEO SO THE EXTRA 2 MINS OF NOTHING ARENT THERE

  21. Z.... ....

This album is awesome! Really long too!

  22. D.... ....

    Good music shouldn't be insulted

  23. B.... D....

The World is a Beautiful Place and I am No Longer Afraid to Die

  24. B.... D....

True, it is now more acceptable to be emotional, but you also need to realize that America has always had guns. In fact, gun ownership rates in the US have been declining for decades. At the same time however, violent crime rates & gun related homicides have been increasing. I'm not going to get into details, but if you want to understand why, you must look at how culture and society has been changing. A lot of sociologists probably have already investigated this problem pretty thoroughly

  25. T.... ....

But it's more socially acceptable than ever for guys to be emotional. The crazy gun rampages are because America has guns. Simple. They will always happen while Americans have guns.
Anyway, emo as an insult to the average person just means "weirdo" and more in reference to just the way they dress and act etc.
The average person doesn't realise Emo means emotional.
What I wonder is, what sort of emotional person listens to something that makes them further depressed? I dont get that.

    T.... ....

    TheGreatestTeamOfAll it's relatable

  26. A.... C....

    me too =)

  27. p.... ....

Couldn't have said it better myself.

  28. b.... ....

because it's not socially acceptable for guys to be emotional or show any emotion (crying, etc.). and that's why there's be a bunch of crazy gun rampages lately :P

  29. R.... C....

This song remind me of leaving LA July of 2000 for Philadelphia. This album is a masterpiece. For me it's still a frequently listened to album for more than a decade and going strong.

  30. C.... W....

    check out You Blew It!

  31. B.... O....

    uh just look harder.

  32. S.... x....

Such a beautiful song, it sucks that true emo doesn't sound like this and isn't around like this anymore. I'm afraid that the times have passed us now. I hope that I'm wrong though, kind of hard when all you hear now is whiny nonsense with radio friendly familiarity. No more beautiful guitars and melodies like in this great song.

  33. m.... ....

wow same here im 28 now too, i remember listening to these guys in high school, rockin out, smokin weed, drinkin in the woods, lol, great times.

  34. G.... ....

Annnnd this is me, in a nutshell as of right now.

  35. n.... ....

  36. A.... G....

  44. Q.... ....

@purebusiness11 Same here. I know exactly what you mean. I've been thinking a lot about them so much lately :( especially now as the colder crisper weather began to show up on these nights where I'm at in Southern California...

  45. T.... ....

    "If it all ends tonight,
you know that I wouldn't mind
Back to the good old times
    Before it was"
They know something about life that will take me years to realize.

  46. S.... C....

This is what emo sounded like before the word became an insult.

    S.... C....

Solomon Carter so true mate... not only an insult but a stupid fashion

    S.... C....

I just saluted to this comment. This is the true and original.

    S.... C....

thats why i call it emocore

    S.... C....

Except the earliest conception of the word was insult toward bands like rites of spring and embrace (especially rites of spring)

  47. r.... b....

i ve fallin in love with this band .....

  48. B.... S....
