Gerry Rafferty - Don't Close The Door Lyrics

Don't close the door
Don't leave here alone tonight
I've been here before
Waiting for the cold daylight.

Just wait a little longer
Just wait a little longer
Don't be running away.

Darlin' don't cry
You know my love belongs to you (baby)
Don't say goodbye
You know my love belongs to you.

Just wait a little longer
Just wait a little longer
Don't be running away.

Don't turn away
But I'm feeling like a crazy man (baby)
So much to say
Tell me something I can understand.

Just wait a little longer
Just wait a little longer
Don't be running away.

This track really shows off his smooth haunting voice so well, intertwined with the glorious slide guitar and amazing production.
    So underrated, sorely missed.
I work a stones throw from the studio where Baker Street was recorded.
    RIP Gerry.

My Sweet Girlfriend bought me this album. Mostly Loving this song. The way Gerry composed and sings this melody is REALLY totally unique. I've never ever heard any artist singing a melody like this! He really was a musical genious. This sounds so amazing, I keep playing this song over and over... Never heard such an amazingly genious musical performance. No other musician than Gerry Rafferty could get the idea to make a masterpiece like this, and this rare melodic structure which is almost addictive... Guess this album is underrated, possibly even better than City to City or Night Owl. Astonishing!!

WONDERFUL description of Rafferty's voice...I've been trying to figure out how to describe his vocals...and I was afraid to use "haunting"..but, you are so right! Even in some of his happier lyric, he still haunts...Thank you!

@m1trekker I agree with you, Gerry had it coming to him. But he left his wonderful music as a legacy for us to enjoy. Every day I can find a Gerry Rafferty song to love.

I wish I could say something profound about Gerry but every body has beaten me to it

  22. r.... ....

@m1trekker Well said - He brought much happiness to people in his fantastic music. One of the best wordsmiths ever - a wonderful songwriter. He and Mark Knopfler, 2 of Scotland's best ever.

The superb, mournful slide is perfect; no sax needed, just that Voice, lyrics, his melody and the slide.

  24. D.... C....

Excellent number from Mr Rafferty (RIP) with some superb slide guitar work. I woudn't say Snakes is quite on a par with City To City or Night Owl but it still contained some fine tunes. I thought his own cover of the Stealers Wheel song Johnny's Song was great. Cheers for posting. Hopefully EMI will get their finger out and remaster the albums he released from '78 - '82

  25. T.... ....

One of my favourites from a very under-rated album, from an under-rated artist and song-writer.Will never tire of listening to your wonderful voice.
    RIP Sir Gerry.
