George Thorogood And The Destroyers - Delaware Slide Lyrics
I rode a streak of lightening on the night you said goodbye
I rode a streak of lightening on the night you said goodbye
Well If I never make it baby you can't say I didn't try
Well I went up that highway they call highway 95
When I cruise back to you baby your heart will come alive
Well I grew up with rock and roll but these blues wouldn't leave me alone
Well I grew up with rock and roll but these blues wouldn't leave me alone
I didn't know what they meant 'til I ran far from home
Well alright

More rhythm and blues than rock that slide started sumthin with that him and Stevie Ray best blues of my generation
This song makes me want to blast down a two lane highway in a hot rod.
Excellent slide guitar! Rod Price from Foghat is pretty good also. 😎
Nothing today can compare
This band has the energy that Rock and Roll is all about
George Thorogood and the Delaware destroyers
I grew up with this music
it's been downhill ever since
NICE cut from Give me back my wig ,,, EH ? OH yeAH !;}
Urban alchemy gang
This is such a great track... absolutely phenomenal playing by George. As much as I love his stuff, I do feel that he sacrificed some of the earlier finesse shown here when he went totally ‘rock & roll’ later on in his career.
thorogood and every band the energetic rolling dices respects.
amazing song
Wurde Ende Januar 80 im WDR-Radio gespielt.
Though he didn't stay with them long, I have heard it said that Thorogood's debut on Rounder was their best selling up till that time. Being from Delaware myself, I knew all about the Destroyers, even heard them play live on the local Newark college station from the stage of The Deerpark in Newark DE on July 4, 1976. Wish I had a tape of that one. But I was arrogantly wrong about him, I didn't think he'd make it. Very good at what he did, but strictly for the blues audience. I was so wrong, Thorogood toured his ass off in the late 70's. He made it happen the hard way.
The Deer Park what a wild place is it still there
how fuckin sexy is that when he makes the slide sound like kettle drums
3:19 the rest of the band thinks the song's over, and George is like Hell no, I wanna keep playin...
so great
sliddeeeeeeeeee baby -- he fkn rocks!!!!!!!!!!
fuckin delaware slide...masterpiece...
saw george and the band play there first gig in western australia at the raffles pub he broke strings playing this didnt miss a note utterly briliant

IMHO, his best slide work. (Before he got famous & put his slide on cruise control.)
Das war noch Hand music. I love it 🖒
Dommage que l'on ai pas une video live de ce morceau
The music died in 1977
I can't like this enough! YouTube needs a love button
13 deaf tone retards

13 deaf tone retards
George Thorogood & the Destroyers don't get enough credit for their contribution to Rock &Roll. These boys are what Rock and Roll is all about.
Unfortunately, since they do so many covers, they get characterized as a cover band.
Rhythm and blues born plus best bar band ever dad saw them 13 tymes
so true
@lokisgodhi Thats how they started
@bill chew That's still what they do. Original compositions by Thorogood are few and far between.
Ya`ll sit down shut up an hang on we just passed over into tipple digit territory and it aint no game! x (
man I play air guitar so goood to this song
Excellent.
Can't appreciate this song enough.; good ole blues. Heard this gem several years ago and i jam out every time i find a jukebox that has it... Makes me want to get a steel guitar!

Delaware Slide - George Thorogood & The Destroyers
Try to get THAT created today! Wow!
This and more.
saw him perform July '88 and Jan '91. Ottawa, Canada. Great artist and performer.
George and the Destroyers are One of the few great things us Delawareans can be proud of.
Delaware can also be proud of no sales tax
OrionPax44 Aubrey Plaza
OrionPax44 amen I’m a Delaware boy myself
How about being the No. 1 star on the U.S. flag?
....... this and a Louis’s cheesesteak in Rehoboth. And then Slammin beers at Zogg’s.
This was the number I was routinely awakened by--for almost six straight months--while undergoing "brain redirection" by Simmi Gode's Fun Army of Najran
Foot Stomper! You can really do the "white boy boogie" to this track. lol
At about 5:00 or so you can hear the riff for "Can't be satisfied". Another of my Thorogood faves.
Реальный ураган!
hello this is lorraine here in kamloops beautiful british columbia canada and lets go kamloops george thorogood is good for kamloops bc canada
lets go kamloops
george thorogood
Can anyone else here the guitar in the background that just seems to be freeforming and playing offbeat? It's driving me nuts.
Certainly can, Robert. It doesn't detract from the music at all, at least for me.
you mean the bass?
+terrants hill lmao good one
It’s part of George’s genius
It's the way George plays. Awesome.
If the foundations be the destroyers what are the children of rockers going to do!!! ------>Rock On!!!!
This song makes me want to drink whiskey
Jimmy Beam Yummmmmmmm
Redundant
Thats the whole idea. One burbon one scotch one beer.
If you don't start drinkin', I'm gonna leave. lol
@Violet Nova rum

Lonesome George at his absolute best!
Totally agree!
The firt LP is just one of the best records ever made!
Road trip music!
Well I grew up with the rock and roll, but these blues wouldn't leave me alone!!
...up there with my all time favourites!!! Love it! :D
I was wasted but I never wasted a moment!
had this cassette kicking around for awhile, great up thanks
this song kicks ass
Actually, the solo is closer to "Rollin' and Tumblin'" from Clapton's MTV Unplugged
Awesome song, but all I hear is "Rollin' and Tumblin'" (or Clapton's version of "If I Had Possesion Over Judgement Day" from Me and Mr. Johnson. Even the solo is similar to Judgement Day). And yes, I'm aware that it's a very common riff (especially for slide). I just hate when the lyrics I want to sing are from another song.
Deerpark melb 1991
Saw him in Delaware in86 doing his stuff.Took too much speed, and nearly died from dehydration.ah,memories of a wasted youth.Awesome guitarist tho'!
remember when this album came out. everyone was listening to foreigner and kansas and overproducced shit when a friend came up the street playing this in the 8 track in his beat up duster. turned me on to elmore james, robert johnson...haven't heard this tune in more than 30 years...thanks for posting
Saw them support the rolling stones at Newcastle 1982 they fucking rocked the gig blew the stones away!
26bitesize St James Park?
i love Delaware1
Sliding back into delaware after 7months of bullshitastan. Semper
4chan brought me here.
Ole George sure knows how to play that slide
Good tunes, this was before George got a fat head. Way better then
Best 8 mins of my lif
George doin the Delaware Slide............ Oh Yeah!
OK. This is on my list to learn this week. Any guitarists out there know what tuning he is in. I am pretty sure it is open G. I will let you know next week after I tackle it. How does he get that tone????
If you start the song crossing the state line going North on 95 as it becomes the DE pike and are haulin' ass, you can be on the bridge to the NJ pike as the song ends. My attempts heading South have not been successful but I've gotten close - a lot more cops seem to be waiting for Jersey drivers flying off the bridge.
No they are waiting for drug runners from Florida
Kinda nice bying born on the same date as ur great hero :D
Been a long time since I've listened to this tune. I have this album on cassette and it was probably one of the most played ones in my collection.
@tdottim I've often thought the same myself, but hey - It's Christmas hahaha!
124 "likes" and 1 "dislike". Join me as we track down this one dislike mofo and put him out of his tin-eared misery.
Originally called George Thorogood And The Delaware Destroyers.
He plays it the old way to that I love about him.
George and ZZ Top Rule.
Diss'isss AWSUUUUM----{kan'ts stop my FEETS!!!!} XD
the last time I heard this song was in a dream, I was running from the cops and I hid in an apartment, they found me so I snuck out the back door, this songs intro kicks in and I look to my right where I heard some people, it turned out to be a group of illegal aliens "running for freedom" as a helicopter soars overheard and dogs bark, so we took off running into the woods.... where I woke up a few seconds later..... no I wasnt on drugs.
Gee old George could really play in his younger days couldn't he!!!!! I saw him really rip at the Prospect hill Hotel in Melbourne Australia 30 years ago never saw a harder working band. On ya George and thanks for the posting

I can vouch. Walkin' The Ceiling is probably one of the best ever songs from Hound Dog Taylor's first album.
Caralho, irada demais essa música.
@rubyrose456 Yes, it's one of George's own songs, one of the few on his first album. Glad you liked it.
I've been absolutely addicted to this song since I heard it for the first time yesterday...holy crap it kicks ass......just a joy to listen to...wicked guitar
